We always hear and see ads and stories about St. Louis style BBQ.

Well where can you get the "real deal?" Where is that elusive slab of mouth-watering St. Louis style barbeque ribs? Or some nice Bbq pork?

Where is your favorite spot and why? Save me some bad meals and bouts with indigestion please...

Hmm...I think the words Best, St Louis and BBQ should not be used together. I think it would be better to ask which BBQ place has the best sauce as that seems to be what the majority of the bbq I have had here is all about. Everything is smothered in sauce so as to hide the flavor of the meat.

If you want good BBQ in Missouri then Strawberries in SEMO is what you are looking for. Spice rubbed and slow smoked is the correct way to prepare meat, not boiled in bbq sauce. They avg. 12 hours of smoking for most items and the spice rub is awesome.

I have been craving good bbq since I got here and have had to have Strawberries trucked in. I hope someone here knows where good southern style bbq can be found in the metro area.

My house jack:bounce3: :bounce1: :bounce2:

Sounds like a plan...I can give you your pump back...ran it all day and the mesh held just fine. :D

I was going to call you tomorrow and see about dropping it off.

Excellent...I am off at 4 tomorrow and will call about then. I know you haven't been off work that early in years though. lol

Where I am from you only put BBQ sauce on things you burned to hide the burned flavor.

I have enjoyed Barney's BBQ on manchester road, just west of clarkson

it is kind of expensive (for lunch, around 7-8 bucks) but I thought the food was pretty good

also - it doesnt come with bbq sauce

since I am a fan of the BBQ sauce, I am wanting to try super smokers, I love their sauce and imagine their restaurant is just as good

Saint Louis has NO good BBQ :(

I lived in Tennesse for a little over a year. No comparison. The pulled pork down there is out of this world. Sauce covers a multitude of sins in St. Louis.

Sauce, when used correctly complements the meats in question. It also has to be the right sort of sauce. I make a very nice home-made BBQ sauce by the way...

SO how did St. Louis style BBQ ribs get started then? Must I go all the way to SEMO like Jack says, to get good BBQ? Bandanas just ain't cutting it...

Seems I can go to Florissant and get it. :D

Most of the mass places are edible, like Super Smokers. Bandana's and Smokey Bones, it is just mass produced and they take the fat out, cook it too fast and it loses a lot of what made then good when they started. I wouldn't cal it good, just edible.

super smokers was great when they were open.
bandanas is ok..
smokey bones is complete and utter crap. will never eat there again!
i ate there 3 times. one time was ok, another time was not good. the 3rd time i couldn't even eat more then one rib. they were horrible.

I dunno, I kind of like BBQ smothered in sauce.

Then again I'll eat ketchup out of a foil packet and roll everything on my plate...including fries...in A1 sauce, so you can say that I am fond of condiments. :D

Location: Normal, IL

That may be normal in Illinois. :D

The biggest challenge I have had is getting used to pork instead of beef. Growing up we were taught poor people ate pork. lol Here it is a staple and finding a good steak is tough as is the steak. I am adapting though and have eaten some excellent pork here. I am sure I am going to have to get a new casket for my Daddy as I am sure he has worn a hole in his from rolling over in it so much. LOL

Nope, it's not even normal for Normal. Im afraid I'm just a freak of nature!! :D

Off the topic of St. Louis BBQ, but the best smoked pork that I've ever had was in Hawaii at the luau. Oh my gosh, I still fantasize about that stuff! Holy moly was it good...

St. louis style ribs is just the cut of the ribs not the style of cooking.

I did not know that I must confess...

Learned something new today. Thanks!
