Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

Update:
I wish I could report something great, however, I have been battling ick for last 2 weeks, I have now lost several fish.... Powder Brown, Melanarus Wrasse, Male True Perc, All 3 Anthias. I believe the problem likely started with the mysterious disappearance of the male anthias, I did not notice for days, finally when I did, I noticed ick on my powder brown, she was behaving really abnormal. My fish losses have me bummed, my corals look great, but seeing them die like this makes my heart sink. I will not give up, but will try and make sure remaining fish hang in there, my bristle tooth and yellow tang are not looking great either. I have been doing water changes and soaking in garlic all the frozen food, hoping I can turn this around. My BFC is taking a dump!!! Ugh....

Hey buddy, sorry about the fish losses...that sucks big time. Hope the rest recover and do well. BFC can be easily upgraded, but fish loss is not nice at all. :(

Sahin, thanks buddy :)

Update:
No more losses, ick has subsided, fish are eating, glad I am back on track, but still sad about my fish losses. I am going to wait a few weeks and get back on track with water stability and healthy feedings to remaining fish. My corals are looking pretty sweet though, I must admit, will get some pics going soon.

Great news perry:beer:
It's always sad to lose fish but unfortunately this is part of the hobby sometimes:(
If i where you buddy i'd wait at least 4 weeks, just to be a bit more sure as possible.

Can't wait for the pics:dance:

Thanks Mike, it will probably be more than 4 weeks, I am thinking a few months... Hope all is well your way buddy :)

Glad to hear it Perry!! How goes the algae?

Charles, how are the frags doing? Yeah, the algae is almost gone now, since going back to chaeto, it is now taking off, I believe absorbing PO4 which is likely the culprit for cyano. Once I get another PH, my flow will keep more detritus from settling, this month I will add a MP40 :)

Sorry about the outbreak Perry, that sucks. Glad the coals are looking good, I bet that RR is still red for you. :D

Thanks Mark,
Yes the hobby can be challenging at time, lol... Thanks for stopping in and checking things out, the RR is still holding color, I am getting hues of green in the base now, kind of sweet looking :)

I've got the greenish base as well, a neat looking metallic shimmer, but still no red on the branches. I've started doing more very small (2 or 3 gallons) water changes to see if that helps, maybe I'm missing something. :fun5:

Frags are doing great, holding color so far but I expect them to pale out at bit as I'm trying to dirty up my water a bit. The tank is too sterile at the moment.

MP40, nice. Welcome back to the dark side. Such a great pump. Get ready for a detritus storm!

Forgot to mention. That Paris Hilton milli after dip was 100% dead on the bottom. Just pure skeleton and I expected it to RTN immediately. It's been a week now and I'm starting to notice some polyp extension on the top where the tissue still is.

Not sure if the dip stressed it out more, but I'm hoping to save it. I'll try and post a crappy cell pic.

Here it is. It looked like this right after I dipped it. Looks bad but I am seeing polyps on top. I put it high up under heavy flow.

Picture posted sideways :/. The tissue side is facing up

Mark, FWIW, I have noticed more green hue in deeper depths, that said, I would move it higher to highlight reds. Mine is 6" under water line, and t5's are 4" off water line, center of tank where PAR is higher. My frags are at lowest PAR in tank, and both are green with red highlights. Opposite of my colony.

Look forward to the coral photos buddy. Hopefully no more fish loss.

Photos will be coming soon buddy :) I have had some ups and downs, I will provide more detail in update on the journal, but the healthy corals are all showing brilliance.

They will looks a bit faded at first, once the tank matures you get those deeper colors, especially more nutrients.

Soon my friend!!!

Lost mine, under my leather that I we talked about nuking the tank, it melted a few days after you stopped by, took out a my Setosa, a large branch of teal stag, Orange Green Tipped BN colony, that pink milli, and half of my miami orchid colony. The melted coral blew through the tank, and did not have time to baste and get all the crap out, so I had some losses. Owell, all is back to normal on the reef :)

Thanks Dan, hope all is well your way bro!

It's up to you now Charles, save the coral :)

Update:

That flubbery flubber that I intended to move out of the tank, that ugly leather that kept getting larger and larger, well.... It died and nuked my tank, I had a few losses, so another not so great update. So I lost a Orange Setosa colony, ORA Orange Green Tip BN colony(very large), a large branch of Teal Stag, 1/2 my Miami Orchid Colony, and a few spots of burn on other montis, and mini colony of Pink Milli(not healthy anyway). I likely could have saved more, but for all of you familiar with Hurricane Joaquin, well he brought major surf to the FL area, 3 days of epic surf. I did not spend any of the days around the house during this episode, so it is what it is. All the nasties in the water when the coral melted happened on Saturday while I was surfing. I came home to this, so I did what I could to remove the strands of crap in the water, turkey baste some corals that collected the crap on branches. I am totally back to normal now, the tank is looking very nice. Photos to come soon :)

That sucks man, I'm really sorry to hear that. We did have a brief discussion when I was there about the dangers of a leather in an SPS tank. Didn't you mention your wife liked the leather? lol. I know the massive ric's for sure.

Let this be a lesson to the SPS'ers. Don't let your wife influence tank inhabitants!! It can be deadly.

The pink milli is holding on and starting to show life, if I can get it to grow out there will be a huge piece of it with your name on it.

oh,sorry about that buddy:(
I never liked leathers!

Happy you bounced back from it and can't wait to see the new pics:)
Have you added anything new? That's always needed after a misfortune:beer:

Ah crap, sorry about the losses.

Mark, things like this rarely bother me anymore, I try not to have knee jerk reactions anymore, I sort of expect losses in the hobby, but I have began to turn things around since the fish losses. The leather really caused havoc, I will not add anymore flubber to the tank, lol...

Yeah, Cindy didn't care about the leather, I meant to take care of it, but was slack, lesson learned :) The ricordea garden will not be touched or else :blown:

Good, at least one of us have it, lol, hoping it pulls through, I know who has a colony if it does not make it.

Thanks Mike, I hear you, the leather really was not something I had in mind nor have I ever really kept, it was attached to a rock that I got with sps mounted to it, so it was a tag along that I never intended to get large, unfortunately my tank was too healthy and it decided to bail...lol... Yes, I do have a brown out acro that I turned color on in 3 weeks, it has now been about 5 weeks since I acquired it, I will update with it when my camera is charged up :)
