Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

I wish there was a "like" button I could hit a few times. It appears that your tank and your husbandry have meshed and plateaued together. When this happens even the speed bumps smooth out easily. It looks like you really have your finger on the heartbeat of your tank.

Keep it going. It is taking on the mature, healthy reef look.

Thanks Bulent! Here is a quick little video I made, nothing special, but I was able to go under water with the new Samsung 7 with the submersible casing. Really excited with the camera options on this phone :)

Lovely video. Thanks four sharing Perry. I actually stood up and practised my rusty dancing skills while watching your video as the soundtrack triggered a dancing response. :bounce2:

Cool vid Perry! Now you just need to find the right filter to show off the coral colors! Ph, and don't worry about the green cyano, I'm pretty sure every successful SPS tank needs some green cyano. Now that red cyano, that crap is no good at all! ;)

Yes Kevin, minor speed bump, and I now know that alk is better suited at a set point for this tank at 6.8-7.0dkh vs. 7.2-7.6dkh. This way if I encounter increased alk again, I won't get burned, lol.... All others look great, a new bulb changed has also dropped alk consumption. Right now I have decreased from 230ml pre mix, to 220ml on mix my own, now down to 170ml. I suspect when a few of the problem corals heal, I will see that number climb again, but goes to show the importance of observation with testing behind it. The tips of a few corals look bad, but the necrosis has stopped and the healing has begun :) Thanks again for the kind words and looking over the journal!

Thanks Bulent, you requested a video moons back, but I finally now have a slight clue at what I am doing, so maybe a new video when I get through the tip burn :)

Music or not, that video made me want to danse! Beautiful, Perry.

Thanks Matt, I appreciate it man :)

Hi Mindy, thanks, I appreciate the compliment. Yeah, some corals showed well under the settings, I guess the angle of my tilt on the camera, but I will get it, the Samsung 7 has WB adjustements, which you can fine tune, really cool camera on that phone :) Yes, the green stuff is unsightly and every sps tank has something, this is what I have, I will take it over turf or bubble algae all day long, lol.... Cheers

Perry, the video looks awesome buddy. I dont have this phone, but sure wish I had one as the camera on it is brilliant. Set it to "PRO" mode, then shift the White Balance to 10K and you can record some excellent videos without having to worry about the "blue" effect.

Any more updates?

I am always looking forward to seeing if you have invented any more new colors.

That first screen shot from Seachange is very interesting. It is an unusual tint of blue. One of my pieces just turned this color over a span of about 72 hours. I think it must be something pertaining to AF cause I have not seen this hue often. I am having trouble even getting it to show up in photos. Dark blue is no problem but pastel turquoise blue is not picked up with my camera phone or ipad.

Thanks as always for posting!

Thank you Sahin, I am really stoked with the camera functions. Using a Life Proof case, so that video recorded under water, I have tried to take pictures, but it does not respond well, perhaps temp change? The video works, but will stop if you move too quickly. I actually recorded a new video today, despite 6 corals looking rough right now. Thanks for stopping by mate!

Thank You Kevin!
I have a video I will add in a bit, still uploading :) No new colors, but I will need to update the thread. Thanks for checking in and as always I thank you kindly for the compliments man!!!

Update

Here is where we stand with the tank. 6 Corals have been seriously affected during this flu that took place in my tank. I am now steady with alk at 6.8dkh, and nitrates are 2.5ppm, and phosphates are 0.02. The tip necrosis has finally halted and did all the damage I believe is going to be done. The corals affected have algae on the dead tips, and appear to be healing now, still look rough, but all others look well. I also had issues where my Seasons Greeetings monti took a washed out hit, and due to the size and the scape arrangement, I decided to move that coral out and take a healthy frag of it and in the yard with the rest. I think the acros will likely recover well, I love the new look of the display, took some of Joe's advice and tightened things up. I will attach a video I made for my December update. Cheers and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all!!!

Perry, will you break off all the burnt tips?
Glad to hear it's all over.

I am curious on this too. I normally try to see if it recovers, then try picking off the algae that forms, then just give up and cut the end. I have only had success with out cutting a time or two.

Should we just go straight to cutting and get it over with?

Sorry about the acro flu Perry but glad to hear things are picking back up.

It happens to all of us, so I am just doing my best to normalize things and heal. The tank does not look horrible by any means, and fortunately on 6 corals impacted, but they are sort of not fun to look at right now. Thanks for the encouragement Mark :)

Glad to hear it's all over.

I did trim the dead tips on the Red Robin, but the necrosis was not over, so the tissue is bare below the cut line, so I am letting nature take it's course. I have a tomini tang juevenile that is picking the algae right off the tips, so I will take this route. The foxface also does a fair share of picking the algae, in the video I am about to add, I think it shows the picking going on. Owell, life on the reef buddy! Thanks for stopping by Matt!!! :)

I explained above, I am going to let nature run it's course, I am tired of looking at the sick corals, especially my Chips acro, still has full PE, but the tips are all dead on this coral, looks so miserable, lol... Anyway, hope all is well my friend.

video is looking great!!

your tank is really beautiful!

still i have to say i am more the picture kind of guy!!

but keep those videos coming!

Cheers

Nice clean up job in the tank, Perry. Looks great!
Nice balance and flow.
It's just before Christmas. Exactly one year from now.. whoa!! It'll be just awesome.
What's the acro growing right at the end of the outcrop from the left hand side, at the back?
Love the pe as well.
