Pife's One fifty glass box build

Great stuff. I especially like the first three pics. The third pic, the one that was brown a month ago, is that a RP? If so get ready to have about thirty frags starting up.

I too, dread the photo process. Doing it off the phone or having to link up to the computer is a pain. I have just skipped the editing part because it is tedious. I really need a real camera. Or, I need a friend with a great camera and skills and likes to drop by and take pictures of coral.

Good luck and I will be following along, watching these acros grow and beome beauties.

Nice!
Love the artsy fartsies! :)
I take thousands of photos, only a tiny percentage get saved.
The more you take, the better the odds of getting some good ones.
Looking forward to all those frags in their own display.

Nope It's Lieshmans tabling acro. I have red planet recovering in the back. Thanks. The long wait of this build is almost over.

Thank you I'm glad I'm not the only one then.

Looking good Brandon!
I dont think you're going to have a cycle either if you tie the new display into the frag tank.

I've done it before with no issues.

You've basically got a clean slate and the bacteria from the frag system water will quickly colonize the available sand and rock.

Thanks guys.

I made some major progress this weekend and tonight. :celeb3:

I have my plumbing ran down the wall and got a ton of other stuff done that is tank related. Pictures will be posted tomorrow at lunch.

Has anyone ever had a sea swirl that clicked? Upon opening it up the joint that pivots and that makes it move is really sloppy loose. I need to clean all the greese off of it and get a better look. I might be sending it off to them in the near future. They have been excellent with responses to my questions.

I have finally fabricated brackets and have installed my canopy lift. I got some of the parts from another reefer that's out of the hobby. (Thanks Reeferhead) it was quite a bit of trouble getting the steel tubing that I needed and drilling it the way I needed it. Now that it's done it's on to patching a couple of holes that the previous owner drilled into the overflow and plumbing then it will be ready for water! :hmm5:

This is the way it is normally. Minus the front. I don't want to get it scratched up so it'll be the last piece on.

Canopy about 2/3 of the way up.

Here are the crappy holes they drilled.
I'll be patching it in the inside.

Why on Earth would someone drill loss down there? That's going to drain the whole tank with the power off. I like that canopy setup!

Looking good.
That top goes seriously high!

Thank you. I need plenty of room to take top downs and for any maintenance that I might need to do.

I have no idea. I knew they were there when I bought it though. The tank was in a garage sale because of a flood it caused when the power was out... I told them that the homes were the reason and for a great deal on the tank because of it. Thank you.

Great to hear things are recovering and the pics are good enough, even the artsy fartsy ones. :D

What camera and settings do you use on your tank to get the darker pictures? Your tank is banging right meow. It's cool you found that flow issue.

I use a Nikon DSLR and the better pictures are taken with a 35mm (50mm equivalent) lens. Good glass makes all the difference for contrast and detail, plus the artsy fartsy bokeh. To really be artsy fartsy you have to know terms like bokeh. :D

I use photoshop to lower the highlights, which tend to overexpose, and do any white balance corrections until it looks close to what I see with my eyes. Finally I use the auto contrast tool in PS which usually over does it but you can select edit / 'fade auto contrast' to find the right mix.

Under blue LED it's a crap shoot because the original looks nowhere close to natural and lots of modifications need to be done to get close to reality.

I don't know what bokeh means? I haven't had a chance to mess with PS to much. 9 9 percent of my pictures are with my phone. :headwally: It's just so easy. Does your camera have WiFi? I think that would be a huge plus but idk.

I have a question that I could use some input on. What should I do/where should I put my 4 Mp 40s? I was thinking all on the back glass with my 2 sea swirls would be plenty of good mix but I've never messed with the mps hooked to apex. Let me know your experiences and what you think I should do and feel free to point me in the right direction for some apex programing help.

I'm getting ready to patch my over flow with some abs plastic I bent yesterday. Hopefully it works out!

Bokeh is how out of focus parts of the image look. Nice and evenly blurry makes everything look nicer. When you have cheap glass, or not enough glass, finer details tend to wash out and the first thing to wash out is colors.

My Nikon does not have WiFi but I think the newer models do. THAT would be super convenient, but I still use the RAW photos (unprocessed, directly from the CMOS sensor) and edit those. You can have the camera create a jpg, like the phones and point and shoot cameras do, but the processing can destroy quality.

I've seen some darn good photos taken with phones though.

For the pumps, 2 on each side, 2 in back aimed forward? You can set up the program to take advantage of that arrangement, I think.

Having wifi on your dslr is soooo nice. Raw photos go directly into my phone, then I process on the phone, then upload directly do Photobucket. They get downloaded to the phone as jpeg, however. Still very good quality.

If I had 4 mp 40 and a pair of gyres, I think I'd put the gyres on the sides of the tank and the mp 40s on the back. I'd run the gyres on a long alternating program and then have the cross flow from the mp40s. Maybe have two on a random flow pattern and another two on a rising and falling intensity pattern. That'd give lots of random patterns..
