Had RSM 34 gallon semi reef for 5 yrs. Got tired of the tight quarters in the RSM rear and fragging corals scares this Grandma! So I sold the RSM and set up a 20g FOWLR. 20G has been up and running about 2 yrs.

Yasha Haza Goby and his Tiger Pistol Shrimp pal from my RSM (my babies!)

Fire Fish Goby (added since the 20g was set up)

2 True Percs (decided gender and paired up about 3 months ago)

About a month ago the Pistol tunneled into the Fire Fish's 'home' resulting in both Gobies and the Pistol shrimp living together only at the right end of the tunnel under a big piece of LR. They all get along.....no fighting!

Question.....I'm upgrading to 40g breeder soon. Would appreciate suggestions on the Fire Fish's living arrangement? Will the Fire Fish turn on Yaz? Should I remove the fire fish. Perfect time would be when I upgrade. I do plan to add maybe 2 more fish. Not sure what yet.

Thank you much!

The firefish will be fine and will never be aggressive towards any fish.

I have a 90 gallon fowlr, sump, and skimmer. I currently have 2 Striped Damsels, 1 Clown Fish, 1 Porcupine Puffer, 1 Dogface Puffer, and 1 Diamond Gobie. I wanted to know if these fish get along and will be ok in my tank?

You have a LOT of aggressive fish that in the long run are not likely to get along.

Hello everyone, I started a new aquarium on the 15th of May. It's a 20gal 30x12. 38lb live rock and 40lb live sand. One Koralia 550 head, Fluval E 50 heater. The skimmer AquaticLife Internal Mini is arriving tomorrow, so it still has a Marineland hang on filter without media. Lighting is Marineland Reef capable 24"-36" LCD.

I would Like to add the following spices:
Snails: 2 turbo, 4 nassarius/
Sea urchin: 1 tuxido
Zoa's: 3 different types
Clam: 1 maxi

I have attached a spreadsheet with the my water since I started the aquarium. It looks like the algae are starting to grow, both cyano and green. Pics attached. I also see bubbles forming on the rocks. The tank has been fed with fish food once a day in order to speedup the nitrogen cycle.

I would like to know if i can keep a kole tang (Ctenochaetus strigosus) and a lemon peel mimic tang (Acanthurus pyroferus) together if they are both introduced together as juveniles?

TANK INFO:
85 gallons
(roughly the same dimensions as a standard 75 but 54" long)
75 gallon sump/fuge
~65lbs LR
~90lbs LS
soft corals
5 blue/green chromis (Chromis viridis)
1 royal gramma (Gramma loreto)

Was there anything wrong with my post? I saw all the rest got replied to but mine...

No, nothing wrong. When the page changes and multiple folks ask a question, I occasionally get confused and miss one and I am sorry about missing it. That being said, this thread is about marine fish compatibility, and other types of questions should be posted in New to the Hobby as a separate question where it will get a lot more attention. This thread is more of an "expert" thread and is answered primarily by me, but only by Reef Central Staff.

For a while it may work but as they get larger their perceived need for territory will expand and there is likely to be a problem. Tangs, especially (large angels as well) can easily feel cramped; when they do, they try to resolve the situation on their own.

Could I choose a yellow coris wrasse as one of my 3-4 wrasse selections?

I've got a pair of cleaner shrimp, and I've read some concerns over these wrasses and shrimp, but many folks have also said their coris and shrimp have gotten along without any issue.

I have read mixed reviews. Mine is not a problem, however.

Well my tank has been cycled for about a week, Still adding to my Cuc. Its a 29g Biocube with Led upgrade, middle media area converted to grow cheato and a skimmer on its way.

Whats in the tank
2x turbo snails
2x astrea
1x cerith

My wish list for stocking is
2x Oscellaris clowns
1x yellow wrasse
2x peppermint shrimp
(and maybe a cleaner shrimp)

thank you for your input and your time looking into this!

75 gal FOWLR Stocking Suggestions

75 gal FOWLR Stocking Suggestions

I am in the process of starting up a 75 gallon FOWLR tank. System info is below.

Tank Dimension: 48" x 18" x 21"
1 "“ Reef Octopus 1000 Internal Skimmer rated for 125 gal
4 "“ Hydor Koralia Evolution 750 Powerhead (750 gph; might not all end up in the tank unless you think that much water movement is beneficial)
2 "“ Jager Thermostat Heater 200W (in case one fails)
1 "“ Eshopps Overflow Boxes PF-1200
1 "“ Supreme Classic Mag Drive Pump 1200 (MD12)

Currently have 150 lbs of dry rock and 240 lbs of dry sand to be split among the tank and refugium (not sure what the final total of LR will be as I still need to purchase some LR to seed the dry rock, I have a feeling that the size of the tank will preclude the use of all the dry rock with the added LR)

I plans for a 2"-3" sand bed in the tank

Sump will consist of three separate containers due to stand limitations and will probably finish out around 15-20 gallons. Skimmer in first sump from which the flow will be split; the majority of the flow will go to the third sump housing the return pump and a lower flow will go through the second sump, i.e. refugium which will then feed into the third, return sump.

Lighting will be two 48" 108W AquaticLife T5 HO Dual Lamp Light Fixtures (2 - 48" 54W Actinic and 2 "“ 48" 54W 10,000°K)

I plan on adding my dry rock and sand, seeding with some LR, and performing my cycle.

After the cycle is complete I believe snails are the recommended first additions. I would like:

Bumble Bee Snails (unknown quantity)
Fighting Conchs (unknown quantity)

Also, are there other species of snails that are recommended?

As far as fish, my short list includes (in no specific order):

1 "“ Snowflake Eel
1 "“ Flame Angel (I have no desire for corals in this tank)
3 "“ Spotted (pajama) Cardinals
1 "“ Foxfac Lo
1 "“ Christmas Wrasse
1 "“ Green Mandarin (after a long tank maturation period of at least 6 months)

I also like the Kole Yellow Eye Tang but feel I am probably already over my stock limit with the above group and might have to cull some additions.

As far as inverts are concerned (the aforementioned snails excluded) I would like:

Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (unknown quantity)
Peppermint Shrimp (unknown quantity)
Possibly Fire Shrimp (unknown quantity)

Sorry for the long-winded post and looking forward to your knowledgeable response.

I think your stocking list is fine but I would not add the tang especially given that you have another grazer

Thanks for the info, this whole thread has been very informative.

Of the fish on my stock list, what order would have the most success after adding my CUC of; 3 - Bumble Bee Snail, 3 - Super Tongan Nassarius and 1 - Fighting Conch

3 "“ Spotted (pajama) Cardinals
1 - Snowflake Eel
1 "“ Foxfac Lo
1 "“ Christmas Wrasse
1 "“ Flame Angel
1 "“ Green Mandarin

I have also decided to go with:
2 - Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
2 - Peppermint Shrimp

Should I worry that the eel will "invite" the shrimp to dinner?

Oh, and Welcome to Reef Central bu11itt!!

Thank you very much. This seems like a wonderful community full of very helpful, passionate people. I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can.

I personally would not do any eels because I want my tanks to be very peaceful and relaxing and eels use more bioload that I would prefer to use for more interesting behaviors. Eels do like being cleaned so the cleaner shrimp should work. Peppermint shrimp, I am less certain about. Your order is about right.

Does the Snowflake Eel not attack shrimps, cardinals and mandarin ?

Does the Snowflake Eel not attack shrimps, cardinals and mandarin ?

Not necessarily so. Cleaner shrimp are safe, other shrimp, are less predictable. But feeding eels is not as easy as feeding fish. They hunt by smell and pretty much have to be fed with a feeding stick.

Being new to the hobby I am curious what kinds of interesting behavior you're talking about?

I am open to other options if there are behaviors that are more captivating to watch than others.
