Ok here my tank:
150 tall 48x24x30, no skimmer, 200lbs rock mostly in sump, 3in sandbed. I try to minimize the rock in the tank to keep it open. Flow is gyre, alternating at random intervals of 1-3 hours. And tank is planned to be an lps and softie tank. Lighting is a 8 bulb tek t5.

Current stock:
4 Mexican turbo snails
4 astreas snails
4 cerith snails
1 Florida fighting conch
10 limpets
1 royal gramma
1 ocillerus clown
1 coral banded shrimp

Proposed additions:
1 powder blue tang or a 2 spot bristletooth tang (Ctenochaetus binotatus) or yellow eye tang. I'd like to do 2 tangs if there is a good combo to suggest.
5 Bangii cardinals or 5 blue green chromis (would love opinions on options for a small schooling)

Thanks for the help!

1 coral banded shrimp careful, they can take fish

In a longer tank, I would consider two tangs, in a four foot tank only one. Of these either Ctenochaetus would work.

5 Bangii cardinals or 5 blue green chromis (would love opinions on options for a small schooling) Bangaii cardinals do not school and the most you can have is a mated pair of M+F and be sure they are tank raised; chromis will reduce their number to one or at the most two

Thanks for the help!

Hey guys I am new to the community and been lurking for a couple hours now. I have NO experience with salt water tanks other than a few buddies that been giving me pointers. I just bought a 24 Gallon AquaPod with 150 Watt HQI Metal Halide Lighting for $120 in craigslist in which the light was ungraded and also the pump. I have no idea what fish to put. I am looking to add SPS and and other fish also some cleaners. Can you guys give me any suggestions on nice fish and cleaners to buy that will not cause stress on each other?

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations. However if you provide a fish stocking list, I will be happy to provide compatibility analysis.

powder blue tang even in this moderately large tank, that is too many large fish and too many tangs.
hippo tang
yellow tang
purple tang
sailfin tang
banana eel
yellow faced eel

In any case, I do not provide commentary on aggressive tanks. Best answers can be obtained in the aggressive fish forum

five good sized fish are marginal in this sized tank, either one of the additions will work, however

Thank you for the insight. I realize about compatibility for the aggresive tanks that you cant comment but as for capacity if i drop down to 3 tangs, an emperor angel, one bluethroat would i be able to have an eel or even 2 possibly and are three tangs to much? Overstocking a saltwater tank is a whole differant ball game than in a freshwater tank and i am trying to soak up as much info as i can from you guys. Oh and thank you for the welcome. Like I said before I am very excited.

The problem is that eels are large sources of bioload when fed properly. Many eels are aggressive and as such questions fit better into the aggressive fish forum realm. Emperor angels are fabulous (I raised one from a small juvenile) but they are the boss of any tank. In saltwater, best results come from fewer fish with compatible personalities rather than many fish. If a fish feels crowded (tangs, especially), they will reduce the crowded conditions. However this is not a discussion thread, it is an expert thread on marine fish compatibility.

Current stock:
1 - purple firefish
1 - bicolor blenny
1 - red head goby
2 - cleaner shrimp
1 - peppermint shrimp
1 - serpent sea star

Would like to get:
1 - tomini tang
1 - tanaka's pygmy wrasse
1 - gold assessor basslet
1 - bertlett's anthias
1 - ignitus anthias
1 - neon dottyback from the red sea

I am a little concerned about the dottyback. My LFS says his are from the Red Sea and are not aggressive. Is there such a type? I read that the neons could go after shrimps and bristle worms. I do have both and would rather not lose any. However, if this type does exist would it be ok with my existing stock?

I would not do the dottyback as all dottybacks are aggressive; otherwise ok.

I have a 80 gallon, it is 1 ft wide, and 5ft long

My current fish are fire goby, blue/green chromis, and midas blenny

I would like to get a royal gramma, 2 clownfish, 1 flasher wrasse, 1 yellow, 1 green, and 1 black clown goby.
Would this be too much bioload? If there is enough room, could I add in some different types of gobies?

clown gobies do not like each other so one is the limit. Otherwise, the list is fine.

Hi,

My cycle is completed and did water change today. I will probably add CUC to my 54g corner this weekend. Now i am debating tgat first fish purchase for QT tank. Here is a list of fishie considerations when complete. I want reef safe. I know i can't add all of these but maybe 1/2 of list. Which should I do first from the list?

Clown/Barber Pole goby pistol shrimp pair
Green or Citron Goby pair
Royal Gamma
Blue forktail
Common or percula clown pair
Goldflash fairy wrasse or finespotted fairy wrasse
Coral beauty, flame angel (know reef safe is questionable)
Eventually mandarin goby
Orchid Dottyback

Alright.. I have a 180g with a 55g sump/fuge.. and only housing a CUC right now.. This tank will mainly be SPS dominated.. Also, will it be okay to add them in the order listed below?

Future Residence

Copperband Butterflyfish x 1
Ocellaris Clownfish x 2 - Wanted Maroon Gold Bar, but I think they will be too aggressive.
Blue Caribbean Tang x 1
Flame Hawkfish x 1
Flame Angelfish x 1

Thanks!
