New 55 gal setup

New 55 gal setup

I'm finally cycled!! Just added a sweet little pair of captive bred clowns and 1 bengal cardinal . I had high hopes of adding a tang but the gentelmen at the pet store said I really shouldn't. Is that correct? What would be good tank mates?

Kudos to your pet store person. I am indeed impressed. No tang in your sized tank but there are many other good options for small interesting fish. However, I don't really offer recommendations as our tastes are likely to be different. Do some research, come up with a stocking plan, and I will happily provide commentary on compatibility.

Let's see if my research has done me any good...? LOL

I recently setup a 20gH and it's ready to go. I plan to keep LPS mainly but maybe an SPS later.
Currently:
1- B&W Clown

Plan to add:
6- various snails
1- Back Axil or Blue/Grn Chromis
1- White Banded Possum Wrasse
1- Spotted Madarin - I do have a fuge with a SSB, LR and some chaeto. I dose Phyto

Would like to also add a cleaner and a coral banded shrimp, but the coral banded somewhat scares me.

Even with a refugium, you are unlikely to have suffcient copepods for a mandarin as they eat constantly.

Would like to also add a cleaner and a coral banded shrimp, but the coral banded somewhat scares me.

Coral banded shrimp can take fish but the cleaner or even two is excellent

I am planning on setting up a 90 gallon tank with a sump and a refugium. How does this stocking list look? I would also like to keep a few inverts and corals. I hope this isn't overstocking it.

Blue Mandarin Goby. (pair?)
Yellow Watchman (w/pistol shrimp?)
Starry Blenny
Matted Filefish
A few Blue Sapphire Damselfish
Yellowhead Jawfish
A couple Orange Lined Cardinalfsh
True Percula Clownfish
Yellow Tang
Court Jester Goby
Six Line Wrasse

So, my tank list has evolved many times throughout the planning and implementation phases. Here's what I have in there currently:
2 occelaris Clowns
1 flame angel
2 orange fire fish (which I am thinking of trading)
1 Yellow Watchman goby
1 Starry blenny
1 skunk cleaner shrimp
2 peppermint shrimp (although I haven't seen 1 of them in a month or more)
a CUC
various SPS and softies.
I have always wanted to add a Mandarine, so that is a possibility in my mind maybe next fall. I am thinking of adding a diamond goby.
Will he compete with the Mandy for pods?
Will a diamond goby get along with the YWG and blenny?
If I add a pistol shrimp for the YWG, will everything still get along or am I risking losing one of the other shrimp?
Not sure if you recommend inverts, but if you do, are there other types of shrimp that goby's pair with that I could look at?

Thank you for your insight. Bummer about the tang but better to know now. I will check back when I've done my research as to what to add next.

Nemanthias carberryi

Nemanthias carberryi

I have 2 matted filefish that have had a 150g 60x24x24 all to themselves for a few months, was hoping they would help with aptasia but I think they like mysis better. Anyway I have been wanting to add 5-7 carberryi's and was wondering if the filefish could be territorial since theve been there awhile.

No problem whatsoever. I have about 12 carberryi with no interaction whatsoever. The filefish are probably not going to do a lot for your aiptasia problem but they are fascinating.

Blue Mandarin Goby. (pair?) A pair would be pushing your copepod capability
Yellow Watchman (w/pistol shrimp?)
Starry Blenny
Matted Filefish
A few Blue Sapphire Damselfish
Yellowhead Jawfish
A couple Orange Lined Cardinalfsh
True Percula Clownfish
Yellow Tang
Court Jester Goby
Six Line Wrasse Aggressive and competes for copepods

a bit heavy on fish for a 90 gallon tank

One should be ok in your 80 gallon tank as long as it is well established

I am thinking of adding a diamond goby.
Will he compete with the Mandy for pods?
Will a diamond goby get along with the YWG and blenny?

Will probably be a problem with the YWG as it will be a perceived ecological niche competitor

If I add a pistol shrimp for the YWG, will everything still get along or am I risking losing one of the other shrimp?

No issue with shrimp

Not sure if you recommend inverts, but if you do, are there other types of shrimp that goby's pair with that I could look at?

Shrimp gobies will only pair with pistol shrimp (but there are a lot of different ones, most of which will pair. Some will not so be sure you are picking ones that will. In this thread I do not normally recommend inverts.

Ok, Thanks Steve, thats what I needed know and yes the file filefish are an interesting addition. My son still can't understand how they change colors so quick..cool
I know its off subject for this forum but in regards to the Carberryi Anthias I have a 58g 3ft QT tank thats been ready, I guess my question is to qt the anthias or straight to DS

My "official" position is to quarantine all fish. That being said, anthias are rarely susceptible to ich, but velvet is a different matter. They are, however, susceptible to flukes so Parazipro is indicated.

I have a 90gal FOWLR 30gal sump and want to know if a Brown Bird Wrasse and a Six Line Wrasse and an Elibie Angel would be ok in the same tank

Bird wrasses are interesting but pretty aggressive and normally would do better in a slightly larger tank since the can reach about 11 inches. But if these are the only three fish, you may be fine.
