Since I am not able to go backwards and have done literally thousands of these (with a poor memory), I would need tank size and stocking plan in order to properly evaluate.

Sorry about that. I quoted the wrong previous post.

I have a 65g with 20 sump. I currently have 2 false percs, firefish, foxface rabbit fish, diamond goby, yellow tail damsel, kole tang and a green mandarin. Can I add a royal gramma or am I maxed out?

You have two algae grazers in a tank that is barely (at best) large enough for one. A royal gramma would not be a problem, but the kole tang and a foxface will be. The mandarin will likely starve over time as there is insufficient copepods in this sized tank to sustain one.

Thank you for the input snorvich. I have been adding pods, plus I have a populated refugium in my sump. The mandarin is a bit plump. I have had em for about 8 months.

(I don't meant to remove your magenta highlight if quoting ends up doing so)
I wanted to include all previous responses so we do not have to do it all over again. I did add the royal gramma, but lost the firefish. The tang and foxface share the tank very well with algae grazing and there is still quite a bit on the back wall, a bit on the rock and my powerhead. Is a coral beauty a fish I can add?

Absolutely not. Remember if your foxface becomes hungry, corals (zooxanthellae) are on his menu.

"well on this thread, there is only feedback by me. If you want general feedback start your own thread in Reef Fish."
:) It was intended to get ur feedback...jst wrong use of words by me. Feedback appreciated

No I didn't, I only added the Lyretails to my QT.

I'm not going to do it but what would happen to the sailfin if I added him to my 120? I've seen so many tanks that are less than mine with them.

I'm sure you'd appreciate this one...

I have seen many stupid things in this hobby but I certainly could not advocate doing any of them.

I have 2 clown fish and 1 small purple dottyback chromis came from my 40 breeder. I transfered them to my newly built 120 together with mostly LPS and softies corals. Any suggestion for other fishes and how many I can add? Don't like aggressiveness in the tank so please help me selecting fishes
thanks

Your purple dottyback will be aggressive. Depending on the species of clownfish, they may be more or less aggressive if they are sexually mature. As those who follow this thread know I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons; however I am always willing to analyze any stocking list provided that tank size is also provided.

Hi. Thank you in advance for any advice. I think this site and in particular this page is awesome and has kept me right a number of times :)

I did water change yesterday and setup a qt (10gal) in preparation for finally adding to my stock.

Tank setup for around 15months-

50gal
Live rock, mech filter and skimmer
Shallow sand bed - only 1inch, maybe wee bit less in places.

Current stock;

Lemonpeel angel
Yellowtail damsel
Royal gramma
Oc. Clown

Lta anemone
Toadstool coral

Cleaner shrimp
Coral banded shrimp
Dwarf hermits
Turbo and cerith snails
Sand sifting starfish (going to lfs hopefully. I inherited him, and wouldn't have added him myself as I know he won't survive in my tank)

I know you don't do recommendations but hopefully I give enough detail for you to comment:

Want to add the following to my qt shortly (limited to what lfs currently has) -

One goby, listed in order of preference-

1. One with pistol shrimp (lfs has sulphur gobies paired up but I could pair with others) - I think my sand bed is far too shallow though.
2. Blue cheek goby - have read they are difficult to keep and need a large mature sand bed.
3. Orange spot
4. Watchman goby

From my comments I am currently going to get an orange spot goby but was hoping you could tell me that my comments are accurate and it's the best option for my circumstances.

Also a starry blenny - assuming it is compatible and the 2 can qt in 10gal together.

That would be all for the next couple of months but long term I wouldn't mind the following:

A small oc. Clown to team up with current clown
Flasher/fairy wrasse - love a carpenter wrasse but never seen in lfs :(

However, I think I am over my stocking limit if I went that far?

Thanks

John

Tank setup for around 15months-

50gal
Live rock, mech filter and skimmer
Shallow sand bed - only 1inch, maybe wee bit less in places.

Current stock;

Lemonpeel angel Marginal, at best, for this sized tank
Yellowtail damsel
Royal gramma
Oc. Clown

Lta anemone
Toadstool coral

Cleaner shrimp
Coral banded shrimp can take fish
Dwarf hermits hermits will kill snails long term
Turbo and cerith snails
Sand sifting starfish (going to lfs hopefully. I inherited him, and wouldn't have added him myself as I know he won't survive in my tank) any sand sifter will starve in your tank eventually

Qt- I used the water I changed out and filter media that has been in tank for a number of weeks. Was also going to stick a small bit of live rock in. I figure if no diseases after qt it can go back in tank, otherwise I'll dry it out and look into what needs to be done to make it safe to go back in tank. Or toss it, it's a small bit.

Lemonpeel - :o I used to have marine tank years ago and from little I thought I knew I thought dwarf angelfish were ok 50gal. Obviously not :/ feel pretty bad now.

Dwarf hermits - thought dwarf hermits would be ok. I won't add more, snails only.

Coral banded - again assumed I knew it was ok from previous experience (or lack of!!). He is still small but might ask lfs for a trade for cleaner or fire shrimp.

Orange spot goby it is :)

Starry blenny - what if I fed algae wafers to supplement grazing? This is one fish I had years ago and he was quite a character.

Oc. Clown - yes I would wait until I could get a really young juvenile.

Wrasse - not asking for any names but are there any flasher/fairy wrasses that would suit 50gal or should I scrub this one.

Once again thanks for keeping me right.

Dwarf hermits - thought dwarf hermits would be ok. I won't add more, snails only. as long as you know that they kill snails for their shells . . .

Coral banded - again assumed I knew it was ok from previous experience (or lack of!!). He is still small but might ask lfs for a trade for cleaner or fire shrimp. cleaner or fire would be preferable

Orange spot goby it is :)

Starry blenny - what if I fed algae wafers to supplement grazing? This is one fish I had years ago and he was quite a character. If you constantly supplement feeding, it will probably work

Oc. Clown - yes I would wait until I could get a really young juvenile. very important. If it has begun maturing sexually, she will fight with the existing

Wrasse - not asking for any names but are there any flasher/fairy wrasses that would suit 50gal or should I scrub this one. again, a larger tank is preferred

Once again thanks for keeping me right.

Always a pleasure

Hello everyone, im setting up my first reef right now (47gal) with an 18 gal sump, and im kind of confused with what fish to put in there.

What i want to put:
A pair of ocellaris clownfish
1 or 2 purple firefish
Yellow tang ( apparently i need a bigger tank for this one, so im probably not getting it)
1 flame angelfish
Some sort of goby ( not sure how many i can put)
And lastly the cleaning crew ( dont really know what to put here haha)

Will put some corals, was thinking of an anemone, some mushrooms and not sure what else.

What do you think? What suggestions do you have for me?? Thanks in advance!

Nick

Tank: Perfecto 120 XH (60x18x26)
Sump: 40G Breeder, Refugium TBD?
Skimmer: Tunze 9410 or BM Hero 180
Rock: 75lbs Pukani

Looking at:

Bangai Cardinals (Group of 3-5)
Blue Spotted Watchman Goby - with paired shrimp
Hi Fin Red Banded Goby - with paired shrimp
Coral Beauty Angel
Helfrichi Firefish
Pair of Ocellaris Clowns (2)
One Spot Foxface
Royal Gramma
Yellow Tang
Mystery Wrasse

And some very easy to care for corals (ie: Beginner). I would love to get a Hippo Tang in the tank, some say 5' will work because the probability that it gets to 12" is extremely slim, and max size is probably in the 8" range). Some say it won't work...just something i'll need to read more up on.

I'm also very open to other suggestions if anyone has ideas.

Reef central recommends a 240 gallon, 8 foot tank for this fish

I'm also very open to other suggestions if anyone has ideas.

Steve,

Thanks for the input...am I at max stocking or close to it? Could I add a few more? If so, what would you recommend?

My Stocking List

My Stocking List

I just started my first 55 gl sw tank and it has been up and running for 5 weeks now. I have a cuc of 25 snails nerite and cerith and lots of pods and worms running around. I want to start with stocking fish and below is a list of what I want. Please make suggestions and let me know what I should put in first.

4 Blue/Green Chromis
1 Royal Gramma
1 Firefish
2 Spotted Cardinal Fish
1 Canary Blenny
1 Six Line Wrasse
2 Ocellaris Clowns

I think I have them in the order I want to introduce them to the tank but not sure if that is a good order or not, also will depend on LFS of what they have and can get.

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. However, I am always happy to reanalyze provided stocking list and tank size are submitted. Biocapacity is almost never the binding constraint on stocking. It is usually behavior, ecological niche, and fish activity level.

4 Blue/Green Chromis will become one; also, highly susceptible to uronema marinum so you had best have an excellent quarantine protocol.
1 Royal Gramma
1 Firefish
2 Spotted Cardinal Fish
1 Canary Blenny
1 Six Line Wrasse very aggressive, especially in a small tank
2 Ocellaris Clowns
