My 50gallon tank is cycling now, still have at least 3 weeks to go. After the cleaning crew, my first fish will probably be a pair of clownfish. Just not sure which clowns!

Options:
A pair of maroon clowns (top choice, just scared theyll get too big, because i want more fish in the tank)

A pair of clarkii or ocellaris( second choice, are either of these more likely to go into anemones?)

A pair of tomato clowns(third choice)

Which of these options do you guys recommend? I want the clowns to use the anemones, i heard that ocellaris are less likely to do so, true? Thanks in advance

All of those options are very aggressive except A. ocellaris. In a small tank, if you want more fish, that would be the only real choice.

Hi Guys
I have an Aquanano 40 cube tank (55L/12.1 UK gallons), 5.5kg live rock no sump.
30 days into a cycle, no stock yet.
Looking to start my cuc this weekend, then over time some soft corals, 1 shrimp, then some fish.

I've listed what I like, (obviously more than I can actually put in there)

I want a cuc (what's the max amount of these over time would you recommend?)
And fish that'll reside in the different levels of the tank?

Trouchus Snails
Nassarius Snails
Hermit Crabs (Red or bue?)
Small Starfish

Which Shrimp?? (need one that'll pair well with a bottom dwelling fish)
`Cleaner Shrimp
`Fire Shrimp
`Peppermint shrimp
`Sexy shrimp
`Pistol Shrimp

Bangaii Cardinal
Clownfish Black & White
White Banded Possum Wrasse
Pink Stripe Wrasse
Hi Fin Goby
Red Fire Fish
Yasha Goby
Purple Firefish
Helfrichi Fire fish
Tail Spot Blenny
Flame Scooter Blenny
Bi Colour Blenny

It would be great is anyone could chose from my list what 'they would put in theirs if the had the same tank ;)

Also what order in introducing?

Be interesting to see your combos, maybe influencing my final choices.

A lot of Q?'s And Thanks in Advance

Trouchus Snails
Nassarius Snails
Hermit Crabs (Red or bue?) hermit crabs kill snails so I would elect one or the other
Small Starfish will starve in this sized tank

Which Shrimp?? (need one that'll pair well with a bottom dwelling fish)
`Cleaner Shrimp excellent
`Fire Shrimp excellent
`Peppermint shrimp
`Sexy shrimp
`Pistol Shrimp will form a commensal relationship (assuming the right species of pistol shrimp is selected)

Bangaii Cardinal tank raised will work, if more than one must be a male plus female
Clownfish Black & White
White Banded Possum Wrasse excellent
Pink Stripe Wrasse
Hi Fin Goby
Red Fire Fish excellent
Yasha Goby
Purple Firefish excellent
Helfrichi Fire fish excellent
Tail Spot Blenny
Flame Scooter Blenny your tank is a bit small to sustain one long term
Bi Colour Blenny

Pick one firefish, multiple will not work long term

It would be great is anyone could chose from my list what 'they would put in theirs if the had the same tank ;)

In this thread, I am the only responder, but if you want general commentary, start your own thread in Reef Fish

Also what order in introducing? always least aggressive first, most aggressive (clownfish) last

Be interesting to see your combos, maybe influencing my final choices.

45 Gallon Bow, Cycled and ready to go, CUC been rolling along for 2 weeks.

in QT, I have an orange ocellaris, approx 1.25", i had gotten a black ocellaris along with it, but after 10 awful days, it died lastnight.

I am looking to add this fish from LiveAquaria to pair up with my little orange guy.

Black Snowflake Clownfish, Captive-Bred ORA®
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3352+3353+3458&pcatid=3458.

I can only add some type of Ocellaris clown to go with my current ocellaris correct?

As long as the new clownfish is smaller, it should work fine.

I have already posted on this thread once, but I want to overhaul my original stock list cause I want to have a peaceful tank to watch and plenty of corals. I want very colorful fish and plenty of movement. My only must haves:
Pistol shrimp and hi fin goby
Sailfin tang(to grow until too large for tank, or something comparable In size and personality)
Mandarin goby
Fish that are not going to eat my inverts
A dark pair of clowns. I would love some designer black clowns such as snowflakes, but due to the price I will probably have to go with a pair of black saddlebacks unless someone wants to sell me some cheap black snowflakes :p
Let the suggestions begin!

Help snorvich!

As I mentioned previously, a sailfin tang is simply not appropriate to this sized tank. All else are fine.

What about this

Most are all small fish so instead of one big show fish, I am thinking I will have alot of small colorful movement.
Hi fin red Banded goby
Tiger pistol shrimp
Common Cleaner wrasse
Two black Saddleback (or snowflake) clowns
Royal gramma basslet
Barletts anthias or Carberryi Anthias (possibly a small school such as 3 or 4)
A firefish
And the clean up crew (snails/hermits/shrimp)

A cleaner wrasse (except African endemics) rarely survive in our aquaria. Otherwise the list is pretty good except a group of anthias really needs a slightly larger tank and note the anthias do best with multiple feedings per day.

That's great news. I would like to have a wrasse but it could be skipped. And the group of anthias I could cut down to a pair if that would help

There are a lot of wrasses that you could have. A cleaner wrasse adds little to no value. You could consider most flasher wrasses, all of the possum wrasses, etc.

hi steve!

75g mixed reef, 35g sump.

present occupants:
2 clowns
2 longnose hawkfish
1 red velvet fairy wrasse
1 red fin flasher wrasse
1 yellow coris wrasse
1 orange spotted goby
1 kole tang
1 royal gramma

assuming i can add one more fish, i'm thinking about either a second yellow coris wrasse (soooo much color!) or a mystery wrasse.

thanks!!

A mystery wrasse does not get along with other wrasses and you have several. They may also not get along with your hawkfish but that is less certain. A second coris wrasse should be fine behaviorally.

as always, thanks, steve. another wrasse that an RC'er brought to my attention is the Vrolik's Wrasse. looks like a beautiful fish. LA says "caution" as far as reef safe. what are you feelings about one of these guys?

Vrolik's Wrasse, one of the Halichoeres group, would work fine. The "caution" is related to shrimp and other invertebrates which (which your hawkfish will also eat) are at risk. Generally, Halichoeres are peaceful.

perfect! thank you again, steve. :)

btw, was browsing the saltwater fish at the local pet store recently. lady standing next to me asked how i make up my mind when i buy fish because they're all so pretty. i told her i go online and ask snorvich. i dunno...for some reason, she kept moving a little further away from me until she was all the way across the store. really? doesn't everybody ask snorvich??
