Thanks, that's good news about the pink streaked.

I'm 2 blocks away from the airport, for now. I'm a customs broker/freight forwarder. Still kicking myself for not fish napping a gem tang when I had the chance last year.

Last I looked Sunday is supposed to be 28. Corals are getting packed up Saturday & everything else is moving Sunday.

Just picked up my 60gal cube from another reefer. It came with two maroon clowns, a royal gamma, and a six line wrasse.

I read that the clowns are the most aggressive. They are yellow band. What to do or not do? I like them but what issues will I have with future stock selection?

Hi snorvich, question with wrasse

Hi snorvich, question with wrasse

Hey
My six line wrasse disappeared a few weeks ago and haven't seen him at all. Considering him deceased. Wanting to add a carpenters flasher wrasse. All we have is 2 clowns and royal gramma.

Wondering how many females are necessary for the wrasse to flash and keep his colors in a 75 gallon standard tank

Thanks
Ben

Hi...new to saltwater, trying to stock my 29gallon

Hi...new to saltwater, trying to stock my 29gallon

Hey, I had another thread but I guess I will post my question here. I have a: 29gallon tank
Marineland Emperor 280 biowheel
Poly-Filter inside biowheel filter
Aquaticlife Dual Marine T5 HO light
In tank TopFin heater set at 78 degrees
Hydor Koralia 425gph Circulation pump (located on opposite side of biowheel filter)
A little over 40lbs of a 50/50 mix of live rock and base rock
Live sand about half inch deep bed
pH level is at 8.2

Right now I have in my tank:
4 small Hermit crabs
1 tank bred Clownfish

I tried using LiveAquaria's compatibility chart to select the remaining fish I want that are reef compatible. I want to have a total of 4 fish in my tank. The remaining 3 fish to go with my clown and hermits I chose:

1 Purple Dottyback
1 Azure Damsel
1 Black & White Chromis

Will these work in my tank? Ive done a lot of internet searching for fish, I havent been a huge fan of gobys or blennies, but thats not that I couldnt be persuaded by them. I want to have a good mix of variety, color, fun fish in my tank. Any help and suggestions is really appreciated. Thanks

That stocking list, once the clownfish are sexually mature, will not allow for much if any additions. The six line wrasse is aggressive as well.

one female (or a couple) or, alternatively, a conspecific male.

those three, may work, but all are aggressive and probably will not allow any others to be added.

Thanks Steve. Some more info - up until a couple of days ago, they would stay mostly in completely opposite corners unless it was feeding time. We'll call them A&B. A would stay on the right, and lightly defend her half of the tank, but it was just occasional chasing (B was very passive). Strangely, at night, B would go over to A (sometimes vice versa) and they would swim together. It was similar to the pairing behavior I've researched, where they would continuously switch positions.

Cut to a couple of days ago. I wake up and I find B in her normal spot. A, the generally more aggressive of the two, was hiding in a dark corner between my overflow and return. She has been hanging out in weird spots like that, but will come out for food and eat fine.

I haven't seen B act aggressively towards A, but A has a split top caudal fin. No bite marks, just the top fin is split. I thought it might have been a powerhead injury or something, but she's acting very shy.

You are seeing aggression resulting in intimidation. I would take one out. Remember cardinals are out and about at night.

So, months later update, I've never been able to catch one, and they've coexisted relatively peacefully with the exception of some occasional chasing.

HOWEVER, sometimes at night, or if the water is still (no pumps on) the two of them will hang out. One will actually follow the other as if they are a pair.

Have you ever experienced this?

I have had a pair come out of more than one cardinalfish. It takes a few months before sexual differentiation seems to set in and one is intimidated or harassed. I would say if you have more than one for six months, you have a bonded pair.

Interesting. I've had these guys for ~8 months now. I hope they finally settle down and the male stops chasing the female.

Ok to avoid possibly having such an aggressive tank and avoiding problems since this will be my first reef tank I've ever done... What would you think about this collection of fish in my 29gallon reef tank compared to my original list?

Tank bred Clownfish
Pajama Cardinalfish
Royal Gramma Basslet
One or two Firefish Dartfish

One or two Firefish Dartfish one is fine

Fine except as annotated

I really want to have some movement in my tank but I don't think my list will provide it.
Incoming stock list:
-orange prawn goby
-royal gamma
-true percx2
-longfin fairy wrasse
-kaudern's cardinal.

This is a 60gal cube with 30gal sump. Feel free to make changes/suggestions. Will be a reef tank and I will be keeping mix/sps dominant coral.

Stocking list is fine. Longfin fairy wrasses are aggressive.

I'm contemplating adding a Purple Firefish. Do you see any issues with that? I know the Kole is supposed to be the last fish, and it was, so not sure how the Firefish would be treated if added.

Thanks!

Ok, one more question - do you think it would be ok to add, in addition to the firefish, a female Tricolor Wrasse?

If you are sure it is a female C. solorensis, it would be fine.

I'm looking on Live Aquaria and they list a medium sized female C. Solorensis - says female subadult. Is it possible these are juveniles that will turn into males?

Live Aquaria is pretty good at classification. However, if they have a similar species which is a juvenile and it becomes a male, there may be issues or worse, if the classification is correct and it is a juvenile, it may become male, or try to.

Hi Steve, Got the Firefish - all good there. Also got the female C. Solorensis. She hid for the first two days, but is starting to venture out during feeding times. She's been chased by the Male, which is larger, and the Kole Tang, but nothing too bad yet. Today, she spent more time swimming out near her hiding spot and is eating well. I was able to get a couple of pictures. Do you think it looks like a true female C. Solorensis, or a juvenile that might turn male? My thinking is that it is a female because when I got the male, he was smaller than this female and was already the same colors he is now. Anyway, thanks for all the help.
