The same issue applies to the sailfin tang. It would do better in a longer tank.

It's hard for me to give up the sailfin but to be on the safe side and be fair to the fish I will have to change my lineup a little. It looks like the chevron tang was in the genus you mentioned. Maybe I can do that with another tang? I'll submit another list after some research.

There are others of that group. However Chevron is one of my favorites. I also like the yellow eyed kole tang. Long tanks are desirable for large algae grazers as it reduces the possibility of aggression. Also large fish in shorter tanks make the tank look small.

Alright... After looking through a lot of tangs here is the new proposed stocking list. I also added three clown gobies. Please let me know if these will all work together.

Thanks again!

Scissortail Gobies "Dart Fish" x3

Barnacle Blenny x5 (could always do 3 if I am over the tank limit, plan to add a barnacle home for them)

Lawn Mower Blenny

Green Clown Goby

Yellow Clown Goby

Black Clown Goby (can all three clown gobies be entered at once?)

Yellow Stripe Clingfish x2 (with urchins in the tank)

Exquisite Fairy Wrasse

Kauderns Cardinal Fish x2 (bonded)

Orange Clowns (Amphiprion Percula) x2

Bartlett's Anthias x3 (1 male, 2 females)

Squaretail Bristletooth Tang

Purple Tang

Blue Mandarins x2 (after a year depending on pod population)

What should I buy next?

What should I buy next?

I inherited a 55 gal FOWLR from my sisters classroom when she moved. She had the tank 4 years ish and I have had it almost 2. It has 2 clowns, not sure what kind but both are different. Had a green goby die and a blue damsel day a few months ago :( I have added a purple dottie back and 3 coralline snails. The tank also has 1" of sand and I really don't know how much Live Rock maybe 20-30Lbs. I think it was grayish in color and pretty normal shapes.

What else can I add or should I wait until I have all the right equipment?

I don't know how she kept any fish alive with the equipment she was using. I have been slowly upgrading. Tiny HOB filter upgraded to Fluval 406. Upgraded lighting from a 1 bulb florescent to an Odyssea Quad T5, ballast went out I think? Only 2 bulbs working now. Don't know if I should fix it or get a better fixture??? I added a Reef Octopus BH1000 Protein Skimmer, new metal heater (I keep it at 80 is that right?) and purchased a BRS rodi water filter. Only thing I haven't upgraded yet is the powerhead, its a cheap one maybe 500-750 gph? Was thinking about getting a bigger one but don't know if I need to with the filter and power head at opposite ends and the protein skimmer in the middle. Looks to move pretty good but fish kinda look bored.

Red Algea has also decided to move in :headwalls: but im trying to get rid of it with weekly 10% water changes and just ordered Phos-X to put in the 406. Was thinking 2 bags of carbon and 2 bags of Phos-X along with adding more fluval type bio balls. (I'm gona fill the basket up all the way with them unless that's to many?)

So my main question is, do I finally after 2 years have all the equipment I need to have happy health fish or am I missing something? Do I need a phosphate reactor? or is running it in my filter gona work just fine?

And what fish and cleaning crew members should I add? If you think I am even ready for that?

p.s. sorry I wrote a book :spin2:

This thread is only about marine fish compatibility. For questions about anything else, I suggest creating your own thread in New to the Hobby. The purple dottyback will limit tank mates going forward. Two different clown species will not work long term.

I have a 180 gallon reef tank with a 70 gallon sump/refugium and have the following for fish currently.

1- blue hippo tang
1- diamond watchman
1- banggai cardinalfish
1- chromis
1- tail spot blenny
2- true perculas

Would the following be compatible. I don't plan to add all of these just narrowing the list down. I just want to make sure that they are all compatible with each other.

1- copper band butterfly (only if it eats already)
1- flame angel (possibly not reef Safe)
1- coral beauty (possibly not reef safe)
1- foxface
schooling banner fish
carpenters fairy wrasse ( or possible a different group of fairy wrasses)
1- yellow tang
2- scissor tail blennys

Thanks

90g planning stage

90g planning stage

Building a 90g corner overflow mixed reef. Looking at the Reef Octopus Classic 150 as a skimmer. I'll be using ~120# of South Seas Base Rock (looks very good, bought 40# @ $1.90 and another 80# @ $1.75, I thought that was a great price).

Tentitive stock list:

Normal CUC, snails, not sure about hermits.
I'd like a flashy shrimp, I currently have a Coral Banded Shrimp, but he stays hidden.

Lawnmower blenny
Tang: one of powder blue, powder brown, kole or yellow
Pair of fancy ocell clowns
Carpenter's flasher wrass male + 2 females (concerned about open top tank)
Fairy wrass if above won't work
Bluedot Jawfish
Firefish X 2
Sunburst Anthias 1 or 2 or 1 male and 2 female Lyretails
Mandarin at some future point

Open to suggestions for additions that would fit the mix.

Fine except as annotated

Okay to add Crown Conch?

Okay to add Crown Conch?

Hello, I'm new to saltwater and my 20 gallon aquarium has been set up now for a few weeks. It has a canister filter, some live rock, but no sump... I'm wondering if I can add Crown Conch snails to my aquarium soon and if that's even okay to do at all with a saltwater tank?? I read somewhere that they won't survive because of diet, somewhere else said it was fine. Help!

Thanks!
