The fish that were formerly in the display must be treated. Tank transfer, copper, or CP is preferred. The damsels should be treated with TTM, copper or CP. Damsels in your sized tank are probably not going to be a problem.

Thanks Steve. Yes I did TTm on the tangs and clown and qt for 12 week while display was fallow. The damsels right now are going thru TTM and than will go into my QT tank for couple more weeks.

Hey Steve,

I've copied your last answer to me but I need another opinion because of an addition(s). I still want the Flame Hawkfish and am considering a trio of Maldives Lyretail Anthias (Pseudanthias squamipinnis). I think I know but what say you?

Recently combined 2 tanks, the current inhabitants are all long term except the wrasse and are as follows:

5" Purple Tank
3" Elibi Angel
4" Splendid Dottyback can be an aggressive PITA but your tank may be long enough
4" Yellow Coris Wrasse (Recent addition, the angel and him had a 1 day "issue" but all is well now)
2.5" Watchmen Goby
2.5" Ocellaris Clown (hosting in a 14" RBTA, 2 other nems: 6" RBTA & 3" Flower)
1.5" Yellowtail Damsel
4" Banded Coral shrimp can take fish
Short Spined Urchin

I would like to add a Flame Hawkfish to complete but I'm a bit worried about the Pseudochromis and/or Angel or each other .... :).

should be fine except as annotated

Thoughts and recommendations ........... thanks in advance!

I am not concerned about the red hawkfish, but the pseudochromis makes me a bit leery. Might work out.

So, starting out with my first Salt tank. I'm pretty adept at breeding and caring for a FW tank, but know this is something completely new... My dream list will be as follows:

135G (6ft X 18inches)
2 Ocellaris Clown (have them already)
1 Regal Tang
1 Emperor Angel
2 Flame Angel
2 Mandarin Dragonet
1 Rose Bubble Tip Anemone (Picking up tomorrow, already bought before reading all this)
1 Electric Green Bubble Tip Anemone
1 or 2 Moorish Idol
1 Pistol Shrimp + Goby
Few Wrasses That are Reef Safe
Couple Cleaner Shrimp
2 Emerald Crabs (already have)
1 Mexican Turbo Snail (already have would like more to clean)
1 Zebra Turbo Snail (already have)
2 Hermit Crab (already have)
More clean up crew (suggestions?)

Have 3 very small mushrooms
Would like to start LPS / SPS and a couple of leathers when i get things a little more settled.

Right now i have 1X24 inch 10000K LED
1X6500K LED with Red and Actinic Blue mixed into it
I have a Trac Light rail with 2 Par38 i plan on getting the Reef LED bulbs for (just not sure what color combo i should get)
Also have 2 Trac Lights with up to 11 T6 Metal Halides and focus lenses i can use if i need to

Sooooo, how awful is my plan here?

2 Ocellaris Clown (have them already)
1 Regal Tang Needs a much larger (longer) tank
1 Emperor Angel Needs a much larger tank and not coral safe
2 Flame Angel Pairing in salt water is difficult; wait until you have much more experience; not coral safe
2 Mandarin Dragonet One will work after 9 months of maturity
1 Rose Bubble Tip Anemone (Picking up tomorrow, already bought before reading all this) Cancel that and wait until the tank is much more mature
1 Electric Green Bubble Tip Anemone
1 or 2 Moorish Idol Very difficult, expert level fish and one only perhaps
1 Pistol Shrimp + Goby
Few Wrasses That are Reef Safe depends on species
Couple Cleaner Shrimp

Well, you are going a bit too fast. Fresh water experience does not translate into salt water experience

So after adding a pair of clowns, I saw that my damsel took ownership of every piece of rock in the tank and wouldn't allow anything near it. Did not want to deal with this for every new addition, so he was returned to the LFS.

New stocking plan for my 66gal 38" fish-only tank:

Current inhabitants:
Pair of occ clowns
pair of skunk cleaner shrimp
hermits
nessarius snails

Future (in order of addition):
royal gramma
barnacle blenny (with barnacle)
yellowhead jawfish (with buried pvc)
black axil chromis
blue reef chromis
red fin fairy wrasse
exquisite fairy wrasse

Should I add the two chromis at the same time? And does that order seem about right to you?

Thanks again!

Current inhabitants:
Pair of occ clowns
pair of skunk cleaner shrimp
hermits
nessarius snails

Future (in order of addition):
royal gramma
barnacle blenny (with barnacle) you can do two if added concurrently
yellowhead jawfish (with buried pvc)
black axil chromis
blue reef chromis
red fin fairy wrasse
exquisite fairy wrasse I might only do one fairy wrasse, if so, then this one

Should I add the two chromis at the same time? And does that order seem about right to you? Not necessary. Order seems fine

Thanks again!

Pretty sure I know the answer, but a 66gal is too small for a Kole Tang, right?

It is marginal. However if you have any other algae grazers, it would be inadequate. Algae grazers, in general, are very inefficient eaters and have to eat constantly in order to get sufficient nutrition.

Would Like Some Small Colorful Additions

Would Like Some Small Colorful Additions

System is in Sig.

I have:
1 Yellow Tang
1 Hippo Tang
1 Sailfin Tang
2 Clowns
1 Longspine Sea Urchin
1 Cleaner Shrimp
CUC
8 Softies (Many more to come)

I would like to add some colorful smaller fish 2" or less when full grown.

Ideas? How many?

Thanks

I have: Long term, 3 tangs, two of which should not be in this sized tank, will not work.

Ideas? How many?

Thanks

So no tang or emporer until i get a larger tank. And not planning on getting these all at once. Will be done slowly over the next year or two most likely. But you think the rest is possible?

Since many/most upgrades never happen, it is always best to purchase fish that can live out their lives in the tank you have. With the exceptions I noted, the rest of the plan should work (I am not commenting on equipment since that is outside the scope of this thread.

awesome, and thank you. Now i've just gotta find out what would work best as a clean up crew and then what corals may be compatible with what i've got planned here.

It sounds like you already are planning a lot of animals that eat algae...I would wait to see that you need to add anything else first so that they don't starve. :)

75G with a 20-long sump - not yet set up. I want to house LPS corals.

You previously approved this list:

Tangaroa goby
Wheeler's shrimp goby
Ocellaris clownfish x 2
White-banded possum wrasse
Orange-back fairy wrasse

Two questions:
1) Could I also add a Tomini Tang? Or add that instead of the Orange-back fairy wrasse?
2) Would you recommend a particular order to add them (after appropriate QT)?

Thanks for your time!
