Thanks Steve,

I read that the Camel Shrimp is a some-will, some-won't bother corals but if you're saying no then I'll have to do without coral in the tank!

What's the minimum tank size you'd recommend for a Yellow Tang?

If I'm too small, then perhaps a LemonPeel Angel? Still get a nice, bright yellow but in a much smaller package!

Getting ready for the next fish purchase in about 2 weeks time, the tank has been up about 2 months now, NH3 and NO2 are at zero with my NO3 now around 5ppm (and going down with each water change) and my current stocking is

2 x Clowns
1 x Camel Shrimp Not coral safe
4 x Turbo Snails
1 x Diamond Goby (added a week ago)

I'm planning to add a Firefish in about 2 weeks time and then give it a couple more weeks and add a yellow tang (I'm *technically* under 100 US Gallons at 92G but I have a corner tank so over 4ft straight-line swimming distance...). A yellow tang needs a larger tank

This will complete the tank and I don't plan on adding any other fish to the tank - what does everyone think, will I be overstocked with the tang?

Camel shrimp and peppermint shrimp are often misidentified. Camel shrimp are not shrimp safe

Not coral safe necessarily, but will work in your sized tank

Thanks Again,

I actually got sold the Camel as a Peppermint from my LFS when I first started out but he (or she!) has a rather obvious hump so pretty sure it's actually a camel!

I won't get rid of the Camel, I've grown rather attached to the little fella and so looks like I'll just be having no corals in this tank... gives me an excuse to buy an even bigger tank to get the tangs. It also means that the Lemonpeel Angel not necessarily being coral safe isn't a problem.

As you're so good with advice, how do I broach this subject with the wife? ;)

Thanks again for the advice :)

That happens frequently.

I never advise on significant other management.

I have a 93G cube 30x30x24 SPS tank with a open aquascape that has been up for almost two years. All the current fish have been around for six months or more and get along well.

Current fish:
6- Pajama cardinals
6-Chromis
2-Clowns (pair)
1-Yellow Assessor
1-Fire Fish
1-male McCoskers Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus mccoskeri)
1-male Linespot Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus lineopunctatus)
1-male Yellow fin Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus flavianalis)
1-male Lubbocks Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus lubbocki)
1-Pink streak Wrasse

I would like to add either a male Lineatus Fairy (Cirrhilabrus lineatus) OR a male Red Velvet Fairy (Cirrhilabrus rubrisquamis) and a male Hooded Fairy (Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus). Any input? Thanks in advance.

Behaviorally, all options are similar. My personal preference is the Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus

Hi Steve,

I have a question about the order of last few fish. I have the following fish already in my 75g mixed reef.

One Spot Foxface
Bicolor Blenny
Flamehawk
Firefish
2 Occ Clowns

I am planning on 2, possibly 3 more fish.

Kole tang
Coral Beauty
Melanarus Wrasse (possibly)

I think the Malanarus Wrass should go first of those 3. But who would you add next out of the Kole Tang and Coral Beauty? I had always assumed the Kole Tang would be the feistiest of the bunch, but then someone at an LFS was saying the CB might actually be the the most territorial.

Thoughts? I plan to try and get small, young versions of all them.

You are considering adding two algae grazers to an already exisiting algae grazer. There is likely to be insufficient natural tank algae to sustain three. Under those circumstances they are likely to go after the zooxanthellae found in corals. Coral Beauties can be feisty. My recommendation is add the wrasse and fore go other algae grazers.

May I ask you to review this list for a new tank being setup?

Tank size = 36” by 30” by 26” about 120 gallons
Sump + a standalone 37 gallon refugium
Mixed reef - not my tank but I was inspired by this layout at http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o19/duryeah/75 Gallon Cube/photocopy-1.jpg rearranged a bit with less LPS and with an area for various monitpora.

1 Radiant Wrasse (Halichoeres iridis)
1 Pink Margin Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rubrimarginatus)
1 Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus solorensis)
1 Naoko's Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus naokoae)

1 Lawnmower Blenny (Salarias fasciatus)

1 Pink Spotted Shrimp Goby (Cryptocentrus leptocephalus)

1 Yellow Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus)

3 Purple Tilefish (Hoplolatilus purpureus)

1 Yellow Eye Kole Tang (Ctenochaetus strigosus)

2 ORA Naked Ocellaris (Amphiprion ocellaris)

3 Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis)

3 Sexy Anemone Shrimp (Thor amboinensis)

1 Bubble tip anemone

3 serpent stars

1 Florida Fighting Conch (Strombus alatus) from reefcleaners.org

Quick Cleanup Crew with Snails and Hermits from reefcleaners.org

Thanks,
Bob

Hmm interesting... would daily noori supplements be enough to offset this?

40 gallon I.M. Tank. Ghost protein skimmer, kessil A350W light, MP10 or MP40 for flow. 30 lbs reef saver rock. 40 lbs Hawaiian black sand. Would like this to be an SPS dominant tank but not strickly SPS. I was looking at purchasing a snowflake clown, flame hawkfish, six line wrasse, and a gardener eel (I know I'll have to add more sand to the tank if I get the eel but I was holding off until I found out if the hawkfish and eel would get along).

Should be no problem

Can I house a black capped basslet and a royal gramma together in a 220 gallon? What would be a good numerical combination of the two if possible?

Garden eels are difficult. The six line wrasse would be the bigger problem than the hawkfish.

Here are the fishes and invertebrates that i plan to buy for my new sump-less and skimmer-less 20 gallon (long). I'm still debating about removing 1 of the clownfish for 1 Diamond Watchman Goby.

Fish:
  • 2xClownfish (probably Ocellaris)

Cleaning Crew:
  • 4xTrochus Snails
  • 4xCerith Snails
  • 2xNassarius Snails
  • 1xCleaner Shrimp

My full equipment list is:
20 Gallons, AI Hydra 26 with director, tunze 6020, Ebo Jager 100w, seafloor special grade sand, 20 lbs of Marco rock. I'll start with LPS and add another powerhead when i start adding SPS.
