Thanks for your reply Steve! I was wondering why you didn't answer. I am aware of the aggression of both the maroon and the clarkii, and that the flasher wrasse normally does better in a 50 gal tank or larger. I had a 40 gal reef mixed tank years ago that I had a wonderful female flasher wrasse and she stayed put for the most part. I guess she is still in my head. I would like something similar, same personality, etc.

As for the clowns I'm most liking the normal "nemo" appearance but want a clown that will host more than likely a bta. The reason I say this is that I've read the horror stories of condi's eating fish. I actually like the condi best in appearance, but am looking for a peaceful tank. I don't like the lta's at all to me they are bland.

So what is my best bet for a nem/clown hosting that will work for this tank?

Have a 110G tall FOWLR. It's been cycling for almost (4) weeks. Two weeks ago I put three small Ocellaris clowns in my 20g QT. They were doing great until two days ago. I had an ammonia spike that killed two. The one remaining is doing well. I did a 50% water change and then added Dr. Tim's One and Only.

Should I wait another couple weeks for this one remaining clown to finish the QT process before adding more fish to the QT or is it OK to add now. When I am ready to add more fish can I add 2-3 more Ocellaris clowns or will they eventually fight with the older one since they didn't start out together? When I do add the next round can I QT a couple clowns with a yellow tang and a couple small blue tangs?

Why are you adding so many at one time? This to me would be a huge ammonia spike and if you don't have the means for the tank to process it, then you will be having to do huge water changes to deal with the ammonia. Don't ever put more fish in than your lr/sand filtration can consume in 24 hours. 4 weeks doesn't mean it's cycled, it's ability to consume ammonia is. Apparently your QT can't handle the ammonia load you put in it. You do realize that unless you have a huge tank you don't need to put anymore than one pair of clowns in. In this case if you do add another get the smallest one you can find, at least one smaller than the one you still have alive. I think your clown that remains stands a better chance of life in your DT, as long as there are no signs of ich, etc.

Waitei Anthias compatability

Steve,

I currently have a 65g mixed reef that has been established for about a year. I have about 60 lbs of LR with multiple hiding spots. My current fish are a mated pair of O. Clowns, Gold Assessor Basslet, Helfrichi Dartfish, 1 fire shrimp, 2 skunk cleaner shrimp, various CUC.

I keep various SPS, so I have a fairly strong water current which I know is a recommendation. I am more concerned with my cave dwellers. Right now the Basslet and the Helfrichi have their own hiding spots, and there is a bit more room, but not much.

My female Clown right now is the boss of the tank, and will chase the Dart and Basslet out of the cave area throughout the day, but when it comes to lights out, the clown retreats to a separate area. I do have a auto dry food fish feeder that feeds 2x a day, and I am currently building a DIY Refrigerator auto fish feeder, to feed the tank with a variety of Reef Nutrition Foods via a doser.

I don't forsee any issues, but just want to be sure....considering adding a pair of them.

Thanks in advance.

I think you should post your question in the Anemone and Clownfish forum. I don't really suggest alternatives, I can only advise on marine fish compatibility in this thread; either of those clownfish will own the entire tank.

Unfortunately, I do not think that this option would work out well. These are difficult fish, at best, and do better in large tanks in fairly large groups.

Hey, im new to this, i dont have the tank yet, i like to plan ahead, i havnt got to the sump size, etc. i know what fish i want, is it possible for you to tell me what i need? like i know all the fish i want, i knew what tank size i want, but everyone so far says its to small! all i know about the tank is it will be dominated by LPS and zoas, but will also have SPS and softies! the sand will be live and 4 inch, the rock will also be live!
The fish i want are
4xCleaner shrimp (2xfire,2xskunk)
2xPeppermint shrimp
30xAstrea snails
6xNassarius snails
3xBlenny(Bicolor,Midas,Algae)
3xGoby(Hifin red banded, Yasha, Yellow watchman.)
1xSpotted mandarin dragonet
5xBluegreen chromis, & 3xBangaii cardinal
2xFirefish goby
2xScissortail dartfish
Possum wrasse
2xDwarf angels (Bicolor,Lemonpeel)
2xTang (Yellow & Tomini)
Question! would i be able to keep six different clowns?
Another question would i be able to have a few brittle stars and a linckia star in the mix?

& 3xBangaii cardinal male plus female only
2xFirefish goby only one long term
2xScissortail dartfish
Possum wrasse
2xDwarf angels (Bicolor,Lemonpeel)
2xTang (Yellow & Tomini)

I suggest 180 gallons (720 liters)

Hey thankyou very much for your help, damn that sucks about the clowns! and would i be able to have the brittle stars and linckia stars or will they get eaten or will they eat someone??
so everything else is compatible?!
What size sump would u recommend?
One more thing, would i be able to have a magnifecent foxface?

I have heard both sides of the issue of dwarf angels eating or not eating coral. In your opinion would corals be safe from dwarf angels? ie. Flame, Potters or Coral Beauty.

Hey thankyou very much for your help, damn that sucks about the clowns! and would i be able to have the brittle stars and linckia stars or will they get eaten or will they eat someone?? green brittle stars will eat fish; linckia stars need a very mature tank; they usually perish
so everything else is compatible?!
What size sump would u recommend? sort of beyond the scope of this thread; in general, larger is better, embedded refugium is best

Yes. Algae grazers must be added after 9 months of maturity or they become not coral safe

Perhaps. Sometimes those that are initially "safe" develop a taste for corals. In general, I would advise no.

What other fish that you would suggest that are compatible with the fish mentioned earlier as well as with coral?

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. However I am always happy to analyze stocking plans provided tank size and maturity are also presented.

Clowns
brown & black brittle stars?
coral banded shrimp?
damsels?
Magnificent foxface

Would all these be ok in a reef with softies, zoas, SPS and LPS??
