agreed the Yellow Tang is like a puppy dog. He is everyone's friend: fish cleaning tools, my hands.

any suggestions for a clean up crew
at the present I only have 4-5 Banded Trochus Snail
and 4-5 Cerith snails
80 pounds of live rock
and mixed reef some SPS and LPS

No, this thread is only about marine fish compatibility. CUC can be discussed in your own thread in new to the hobby. The yellow tang will not always be that way when it matures.

First off, thank you Steve for taking the time to help us select aproppriate fish for our systems.

40g AIO 5g rear section.

40lb live sand

60lb live rock

Skimmer, fuge in the back, running bio pellets and gfo reactors

Tank is mainly a coral tank, softies, lps and a little sps.

Fish I'm looking to add in order.

1 Yasha Goby/Pistol Shrimp
1 Benggai Cardinal
1 Royal Gamma Basslet
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Fairy Wrasse (not sure which yet, or a Pygmy/Tanaka if the Fairy is too aggressive)

Thanks
Vincent

Vincent, the plan is fine but a possum wrasse (any of the species would work) would be preferable to a fairy wrasse.

Hey guys,

I have 55 gallon tank with 30 gallon sump. I have about 20 lb of sand and about 30-40 lbs of live rock in it. My tank have been running for about 2 - 3 months.

After browsing around, I would like to add these fish and invert into my tank.

Fish

1 Flame angelfish
1 Clown goby
1 Royal Gramma Basslet
1 Diamond goby
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
2 Kaudern cardinal
2 Firefish goby
1 Pajama Cardinalfish

Invert

2 Cleaner shimps
2 Peppermint shrimps
CUCs

Is it possible have all of my desire fish and invert? If no, which fish or invert should i get rid off? And in which order should I add them to my tank?

Thanks in advance

Fish

1 Flame angelfish needs a larger tank
1 Clown goby
1 Royal Gramma Basslet
1 Diamond goby
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
2 Kaudern cardinal male plus female only; tank raised
2 Firefish goby only one and should be added early on
1 Pajama Cardinalfish

Invert note: cardinal fish and shrimp may not do well together

2 Cleaner shimps
2 Peppermint shrimps
CUCs

Is it possible have all of my desire fish and invert? If no, which fish or invert should i get rid off? And in which order should I add them to my tank? A bit heavy stocking for this sized tank

Thanks in advance

Pretty close to finalizing a stocking for my 120.

Tank: 120 XH (60x18x26)
Sump: 40 gallon breeder
Total Water volume: 115 gallons (give or take)
Light: Photon 48
75 lbs of Pukani Rock
60 lbs of Reef Flakes
30 lbs of Mini Flakes

2 Ocellaris Clowns
Coral Beauty Dwarf Angel
Midas Blenny
Tailspot Blenny
Purple Firefish
Orange Spot Diamond Goby
HiFin Red Banded Goby with Pistol Shrimp
Yellow Tang
Bristletooth Tomini Tang
Hoeven's Wrasse

11 fish in total. If I could find a small schooling (shoaling) fish I would like to add a group of 5 or so, but if not, will stick with my 11 mentioned.

**Note I would love to add a Hippo Tang, but thinking better of it**

Planned Corals:

Atomic Torch Coral
Electric Coral
Orange Ricordeo
Star Polyp
Orange Bam Bam Zoanthid
Blue Snowflake Polyp

Also is there a particular order to add the fish?

I would not do two tangs in a 120 gallon tank, especially with another algae eater (dwarf angel) and in any case would not do a P. hepatus.

there is no group of fish that will shoal in this sized tank; chromis will initially then reduce their number to one or at most two. Anthias may to some degree depending on species but normally a longer tank would be desirable for a group.

Starting over fresh with a 75 gallons reef tank. I will be carrying over a common cleaning crew with a long tentacle anemone, occerlaius clown, and a scooter blenny.

Will it be okay to add a yellow wrasse as well as a pistol shrimp/goby pair (not sure which pair is best)?

Halichoeres chrysus would be fine but is not invert safe; the pistol shrimp should be ok.

Hi Steve,

This post is not about marine fish compatibility, but more a question about the leopard wrasse. (I know this thread is only about compatibility, gone fishin said to ask you in this thread :) ) It is a beautiful fish and I was wondering what QT protocols I should do, and also if I should make sure that the fish is eating in the LFS.

Thank you so much for your time, I know the newbies here and I really really appreciate it. Congrats on 37K posts!!!!

I do keep leopard wrasses. The vast majority of them are easy in the right tank. Many come in with intestinal worms and need a prazipro treatment. It is critical that their mouth not be damaged; this often comes due to injury during shipment. Best environment for them is a larger reef tank (75 gallons and up) because they are constant copepod grazers; as such six line wrasses and other major copepod eaters are not going to work with leopards. All I have ever gotten eat PE mysis, but after they are comfortable, will eat most foods. But, they must have copepods! Once a day or twice a day feeding is not going to keep them going. They are not especially tolerant of mandarins.

Thank you! I have a 75 gal with a 20l sump. I should wait for a year to grow my pod culture, right?

Just trying to round out the tank. 66gal fowlr

Currently in DT:
2 occ clowns
royal gramma
firefish
yellow banded possum wrasse
CUC

Arriving for QT tomorrow:
Exquisite wrasse

Thinking about the final additions being:
1 blue reef chromis
1 resplendent anthias

I know you don't like recommending chromis, but ever since I gave back my yellowtail damsel, I have wanted to replace that blue color, and there are so few options that aren't true damsels (i know chromis are technically damsels). But I won't do it if you think it won't go well.

I am exceptionally leery of chromis because of their high propensity for uronema marinum. The vast majority of people do not have a robust enough quarantine protocol to insure this parasite does not enter their tanks.

I have further questions so I started a thread in the disease section.

Where I answered. Free advice is only worth what you paid for it. :spin1:

Steve, I think everyone on this forum can agree with me that even though your advice is monetarily free, it is invaluable to the people dedicated to this hobby. Without this thread, I would have absolutely had issues with stocking my tank AND making sure it was disease free. So thank you for your dedication, expertise, and willingness to help. It is very much appreciated.
