69 gal DT, 20 gal sump + 40 gal Refugium with mantis shrimp
Current inhabitants of dt are
pair of percula clowns,
royal gramma,
starry blenny,
tail spot blenny,
2 chromis,
long nose hawkfish.
I want to add a pair of valentini puffers. I have found a male and female and will gradually introduce them together in qt. if it doesn't work then I will return one to lfs. I have researched this and have a good plan as to how to go about it and these particular puffers are found in large groups.

I am unable to comment on the desirability or compatibility of a pair of valentini puffers. In the wild, I have only seen them singly.

I've been in and out the hobby for about 8 years, I currently have a 14g nano and just pick up another 29g bio cube. I have been keeping lps and sps in my tank for about 1yr 1/2 with LED's. So I'm looking forward to read and learn everyone's experience with their tanks.

Current livestock:
pair of Ocellaris Clowns (just reaching maturity 2" & 2.5")
pair of Pajama Cardinals (1.5-2")
one Neon Dottyback
one Firefish
assorted snails and hermits (need more snails)

The neon dottyback and the pajamas will find new homes. This will leave me with a pair of clowns and the fire fish. My wife insists on a Green Canary Blenny as a replacement for the dottyback.

Assuming you did not add fish until you have established the new tank, the plan should be fine. You will need an appropriate substrate for the jawfish (which are great fish). Also, the BTA should not be added until the new tank is mature.

Thanks for the advice, Steve. With the Dottyback gone, would the canary blenny be ok with the clowns, firefish and pajamas in the 55 or should I also re-home the pajamas before adding? Trying to make the Mrs happy with the blenny.

Should be no problem.

I do not forsee any problems. Tang should be added at about six months of maturity.

Hi Snorvich,

I'm currently setting up a FOWLR tank.
55 Gallon - no sump.
Bottom has 1 inch of crushed coral.
I used "instant ocean reef crystals" for the salt mix.
Marineland Emperor 400 filter (this may change later - but what I have for now).
LED lighting.
I'm considering an in-tank protein skimmer...probably the hydor model.

I'll be adding both live and dry rock soon but don't have any yet - and not entirely sure how much I should get.

At any rate I love "Marine Bettas" and had one many years ago in a 75G tank. I'd like a few peaceful companions and looking for suggestions. Was thinking maybe a "Coral Beauty" and perhaps some type of blenny.

Thanks!

Ed

I cannot really recommend a marine betta in such a small tank;

Hi Steve..

I am looking for something natural to eradicate Aiptasia besides Peppermint Shrimp. Will you recommend me what??

My reef tank is a 125 with the following fish and corals:

1. Tangs (Blue, Powder Blue, Tomini, FoxFace)
2. 4 Orange Anthia's
3. Harlequin Shrimp
4. Oscellaris Clown
5. Diamond Goby
6. Yellow Goby
7. Orange Filefish
8. Corals (LPS / SPS)

Thanks in advance...

With four tangs (three plus a foxface) in this sized tank and corals, there is no natural predator I can suggest fish wise.

Hi there,

Setting up a standard 29g, 20lbs of dry rock, 20lbs of dry sand (to be seeded live), as a mainly invert tank. Will have HOB filter used as potential refugium, but no skimmer in the current plans. Main theme is a small tank that is constantly moving, no matter where you're looking (due to heavy invert population).

Planned inhabitants (in order of addition):
-Assorted snails (thoughts on qty after reading rest of list?)
-Assorted hermits (thoughts on qty after reading rest of list?)
-Emerald crabs (3x)
-Pom pom crabs (2x)
-Skunk cleaner shrimp (1x)
-Blood shrimp (1x)
-Sexy shrimp (1 or 2x)
-Peppermint shrimp (2 or 3x)
-Pistol shrimp
-Porcupine urchin
-Ocellaris clown
-Yellow watchman goby
-Purple firefish

Thanks in advance!

Current inhabitants of my 180: Two barred rabbit fish, Percula clown, Matted File Fish, Lubocks Wrasse.

In QT Percula clown (small), Diamond Goby, Cherub Angel, Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse

Nest to go to QT after the above get to DT: 3 Pajama Cardinals, Spot Breast Angel, Bellus Angel

Next QT group: 3 more Wrasses type tbd

Last group: Powder Blue Tang, Kole Tang and Convict Tang

Do you see any issues? My concern is the Cardinals when the Tangs are introduced, and the number of fish in a 180

This thread is only about marine fish compatibility; as such detailed analysis of invert matching is beyond the scope of this thread. There is an invert forum where you can start your own thread.

The number of large fish is an issue; the number of algae grazers will be an issue as the tangs mature. I doubt that the tangs and cardinals will be a problem, however. The species of wrasse will make a difference and in any case you should use an acclimation box for introduction.

Adding Rhomboid Wrasse

Adding Rhomboid Wrasse

I have a 93 gallon cube with a 30 gallon sump

I want to add 2 rhomboid wrasse a male and a female would they be a good fit?

1 Yellow Tang

2 Hawaiian Flame Wrasse 1 male and 1 female

2 Bartlett's Anthias 1 male 1 female - they recently all but killed on of their former trio, the 3 anthias moved to a different tank

1 Yellow Tang needs a larger tank

When adding wrasses to established wrasses, always use and acclimation box. I would be happier if your tank were larger. Note that female fairy wrasses are, in general, more aggressive.

agreed the Yellow Tang is like a puppy dog. He is everyone's friend: fish cleaning tools, my hands.

any suggestions for a clean up crew
at the present I only have 4-5 Banded Trochus Snail
and 4-5 Cerith snails
80 pounds of live rock
and mixed reef some SPS and LPS
