40 breeder (with a 65 gallon sump/27 gallon refugium).

Existing fish... fine

pair of Ocellaris Clownfish
Firefish

Future wish list (depending)... the first five are fine but the total probably would dictate 3 out of the 5
Lawnmower Blenny
Royal Gramma
Bangaii Cardinal
Pajama Cardinal
Chalk Bass?
Fairy Wrasse? needs larger tank
Pygmy Cherub angel? aggressive

All Synchiropus Ocellatus eat flake and pellet? 7+ websites I've read say they feed on benthic inverts/pods and they need a supply of them unless trained to eat otherwise.

First - Thank you for maintain such a useful thread - I keep skimming to get ideas / tips/ warnings as I plan my stock list. Tried to include questions based on your previous comments.

Current tank FOWLR - mixed reef eventually (moving very slow)

125G (72x18x24) with 55G sump below
protein skimmer, filter socks, refugium chamber (just sand for now will add light/plants when needed)
Lights: 72" 200W LED (current marine pro)
still tweaking aquascape, picking powerheads.
API test ammonia/nitrate/nitrite all 0, Hydrometer: 1.026, temp 78-80F

Current stock
2 pair clown ocellaris
5 blue-green chromis (love for now would want more +2 as they school nicely but it seems this may change as they grow and may be a challenge as I add more fish?)

Additional possible stock:
2 or more cardinal fish - really want to get to schooling fish if possible.
Do you have recommendation on Pajama (Sphaeramia nematoptera) vs (Pterapogon kauderni)?

1 Yellow tang - which after research will NOT be my next fish as planned (seems I need to hold off and make my LAST fish and add with any other tangs then)

1 flame angel? (technically not reef safe but seem to work for many if feed well)

1-2 Bassets - thinking Gold assessor / royal gramma ( do I need to add together possible next additions?)

1 - Blenny (or some other kind of bottom dweller?)

Note - no Canopy/open top so no jumpers (meaning no Gobies, Dartfish or wrasse
unless i add a screen)

maybe years from now add dragonette if I am ready for a challenge but unlikely.

Clean up crew:
Currently just hitchhikers - tons of tube worms, feather dusters, collonista snails, at least 1 Stomatella will be getting more inverts as bioload increases/tank matures.

Planned additions:
+ More snails (what ever the LFS recommends/stocks)
Maybe some Hermit crabs?
Maybe 1 skunk cleaner shrimp (worried not reef safe but might try?)
NO EMERALD CRABS!
Any cool reef safe options recommended that I am missing?

They will knock off their numbers over time leaving only one or two. Also, they are highly susceptible to uronema marinum which is a difficult to erase fish parasite

Additional possible stock:
2 or more cardinal fish - really want to get to schooling fish if possible.
Do you have recommendation on Pajama (Sphaeramia nematoptera) vs (Pterapogon kauderni)? P. kauderni will only tolerate a male plus female; the others type will initially shoal but then separate into male female pairs over time

1 Yellow tang - which after research will NOT be my next fish as planned (seems I need to hold off and make my LAST fish and add with any other tangs then) this will work but should be last and only tang in this sized tank

1 flame angel? (technically not reef safe but seem to work for many if feed well) not reef safe, your risk

1-2 Bassets - thinking Gold assessor / royal gramma ( do I need to add together possible next additions?)

Note - no Canopy/open top so no jumpers (meaning no Gobies, Dartfish or wrasse
unless i add a screen) add a screen; all fish can jump

maybe years from now add dragonette if I am ready for a challenge but unlikely. after 9 months your tank should be able to sustain one

Anthias would be fine. Careful with the carpet, it will eat fish

New Setup

New Setup

So this tank is in the design process but I have a 20gal tank that came with a hang on back filter, I was going to get a protein skimmer and about 20pds of live rock and use a sand substrate. (Open to suggestions on a more desecrete filtration system.)
Undecided about the heating/cooling system, suggestions are appreciated.
I want to wait to get any coral until I can get a bigger tank and go all out on the perfect lighting system. So I was going to begin with fish only.
I was going to start off with 2 clowns (ocellaris I think)
2 firefish, a diamond watchman goby forsure. I really like the idea of some green chromis and a smaller speices of starfish as well that can scavenge from the live rock. I was also reading about the Saddle Valentini Puffer and the are "peaceful" and don't require a huge tank. I love puffers and would be over the moon to have one. Does anybody have experience with this particular species of puffer? SO basically looking to find the best combination of the above listed fish, but fish first I want everybody to be happy, safe and not over-crowded.

In a 20 gallon tank, a pair of clowns is about the real limit that you can have comfortably. Once sexually mature, they will want to control about 25 gallons of tank space. You can certainly have corals with them. This thread is only answered by Reef Central Staff. If you want more general opinions, please start your own thread in New to the Hobby or Reef Fish. If you prefer not to have clownfish, you can have a small number of smallish peaceful fish.

6 snails
White tiger goby
3 barnacle blennys

Frog spawn
Mushroom coral

Will this be too many for the tank. Thank you.

Looking for a 3rd reef safe fish for LPS/ Zoa tank.

Thinking Royal Gramma???

Comment and opinions appreciated.

The anemone may be problematic, but otherwise, fine.

I'm back for more advice.

I had a bryopsis outbreak so I started over and gave all me fish to a fellow reefer.

140g peninsula tank (57x21x30)

I'd like to get an order of introduction to a sterile tank as well as recommendations on the fish to see if they'll get along. I don't want a "excessively" aggressive tank.

-Cirrhilabrus lineatus (wrasse)
-Ecsenius stigmatura (blenny)
-Stonogobiops yasha + Alpheus randalli (goby)
-7-9 Chromis cyaneus
-Clown fish (dunno yet, but semi aggressive like tomato or maroon)
-Ctenochaetus strigosus (Kole Tang)
-Siganus magnificus (Foxface)
-Nemateleotris decora (fire Fish)
-2 Ostorhinchus compressus (cardinal)

Thanks!

-Rog

-7-9 Chromis cyaneus I never advocate for groups of chromis; first of all, they will reduce their number over time to one or two, and secondly because of their high susceptibility to uronema marinum

fine except as annotated; always most passive first, most aggressive last
