Hey all, glad I saw this thread before posting.. So I have a 40 gallon breeder, it's been running for about a month now, levels are all starting to balance out, diatom algae bloom is going away, ammonia is at like .02 and has been going down everyday, exciting point for a new salt water hobbyist!:xlbirthday:
I suggest not buying fish while ammonia is present. Also, I suggest clean up crew before fish.
I plan on doing my first water change today, only about 4 gallons. Okay question now, how many fish would I be able to have in this tank? I went out and bought my first fish two days ago, a clown fish. I have an idea of the fish I want, can you please let me know if they will all be able to co-exist with each other. Thanks!
You are not quarantining your fish, and you are rushing. Nothing good happens quickly in this hobby.
1. Clown Fish depends on species; some are more aggressive
Wait 2 weeks
2. FireFish and a Coral Banded Shrimp coral banded shrimp can take fish; a firefish is a jumper, so you better have a top (1/4 inch mesh)
Wait 2 weeks
3. Yellow wrasse needs a larger and more mature tank
Wait 2 weeks
4. Lawnmower Blenny needs a more mature tank
Wait 2 weeks
4. Copperband Butterfly Fish ( I know these guys require a very large tank, but I only plan on housing him for a couple months, I have a bad aiptasia problem. And my LFS said they would take him back after he was done cleaning my tank of the aiptasia) A copper banded may or may not eat aiptasia. It may or may not eat at all so if it dies your LFS is unlikely to take it back. Do not get this fish
Please let me know your all's ideas/suggestions! Thanks!
