My clowns have only been in the tank a little over a month and are less than 2", but the last few days the smaller one has been 'shimmying'. I was afraid it was flashing due to parasites. Is it possible they've bonded this early?

Shimmy and flash are distinctly different. Please describe the behavior more exactly. IMO it would be a bit early for bonding.

I wish I'd grabbed a video. Shimmy seemed to describe it, which is why when I saw your post I immediately connected the 2. In open water, he would suddenly shake his whole body in a forward motion. And though I wasn't looking for it, the other clown seemed to have been close by. With freshwater fish, flashing is done near the surface of the water or the surface of an object and usually the fish turned so one side of their body faced the surface, there was none of that here.

Here is my tank situation:
-65 g tall (48" wide x 24" high x 13" deep). No sump. About 100 lbs live rock. 80 lbs sand substrate.
-Filtration/circulation: just a 1000 gph powerhead. I plan to add an AquaC Remora HOB protein skimmer once I actually add some fish.
-Lighting: Coralife 4 x T5HO lights (10000k and actinic bulbs) plus lunar LEDs

THANK YOU!

Would the following work in the above tank?
2 x Ocellaris clownfish (juvie)
1 x domino damsel
1 x three-stripe damsel
1 x yellowtail damsel

All would be added while small. Also, would this allow enough space for a Foxface? Thank you.

Stocking my FOWLR. My initial list has completely changed. Mostly due to obtaining certain species and issues with some and CUC's.

So, this is going to be a mixed Angel tank with some others. Stocking "plan" right now, please give input!

1) Blueface Angel (in QT)
2) Majestic/Navarchus Angel (coming this weekend)
3) Cream Angel
4) Koran Angel (possibly) - or - Annularis (if I can find one)
5) Flame Angel (in QT)
6) Red Stripe Angel

Angels will be QT'd and all released into DT at same time. I am attempting to get all the angels larger than the Blueface to keep him the smallest for now. He'll be the 'alpha' Angel, so with smaller size than the rest, I'm hoping to keep the peace.

Remaining list, shortly after or at the same time as the angels.

1) Achilles Tang
2) Pakistan Butterfly
3) Wrasses (couple in question)
4) Pair of clowns
- possibles:
5) Moorish Idol (want badly, any feedback welcome!)
6) Majestic Foxface

You have a lot of algae grazers and largish fish which may make your tank look small

Thanks for the input. The Blueface Angel is about 3", so just past juvenile coloring. I plan on getting the "large" angels all about 3" (just bigger than the dwarfs). It'll take a few years for them to grow out (i've heard longer depending). I intend/plan to go with a much larger FOWLR whenever I move into my next house. Which will be within the next five years. I know "plans" can change with life, but I consider this a hobby. If I part with anything it would be the reef aspect. I hope to always keep FO tanks, much easier and less demanding IMHO.

I would think shimmy. If you see discoloration, skin sloughing, that is likely brook. If you see white spots, more likely ich. Otherwise, if only shimmy, bonding.

All these fish are damsels, all will be aggressive. Do you really want that? I would prefer a larger fish such as a foxface in a larger tank

Well, I gave my opinion. Hope it works out well for you.

Currently have a 90 gallon - FOWLR

In my tank now I have two occ clowns, some astrea snails.

I have some hitchhickers which seem to include an anemone, star fish, bristle worms and some sort of slug, I also have some white tube thingy's growing on the rock but thats getting off subject

The fish I want to keep:

-Flame Angel and if possible a pigmy angel or a coral beauty.

-purple and red firefish they may not get on with each other.

-bi color blenny

-Anthias

I would like any other suggestions on possible tank mates that will be colorful and not too frightened to leave the rock work.

If the "anemone" is an aiptasia, best to remove it now if you can

You can have two firefish long term IF and ONLY IF they are a bonded pair

All mentioned would be fine except as noted above. In this thread we do not recommend but would be happy to provide additional commentary to any fish list supplied

I don't know how to tell the difference between aptasia and an anemone it is purple coloured and its is small but thick tentacles and has moved position.

how do you make sure you have a mated pair of any kind of fish most times there are half a dozen of them in a tank in the fish store.

I've posted before, but stocking was delayed by fish illness. 39 gal Cadlights signature mixed reef, pair of occ. clowns coming out of 2 month quarantine/treatment soon. Want to try the following: bicolor dottyback; purple firefish (maybe a pair); bicolor or starry blenny; yellow watchman goby. I'll probably weed out one or two, to keep the bio load down, but let me know what you think. Thanks as always.

I am always nervous about hitchhiker anemones as they may be aiptasia or mojano anemones. Google for images

For firefish it is difficult as there is no morphological difference that I know of. Look for two that hang together, or at least that is what I do. It is not foolproof but has worked once or twice for me. Unfortunately you will not really know for months until the fish sort it out.

Returns are always welcome! ;) Other than the dottyback, all should be well. Dottybacks are very aggressive. Just remember blennies don't like each other so only one. Bioload should be fine.

How about a royal gramma? Looking for something with yellow. Concerned with a basslet eating ornamental shrimp. Bananna wrasse? Canary blenny?

Unfortunately, you already have more than your tank can accommodate with two very aggressive fish.
