Research Time. I will be getting a 65 gallon red max. Plan. Please tell me when to add plus any other advice. Thank You!!!

5 Astraea Conehead Snail
3 Electric Blue Hermit Crab I am not an advocate of hermit crabs preferring other animals e.g. snails, fighting conch
2 Electric Orange Hermit Crab
Fancy Vivid Ocellaris Clownfish (Pair)
2 firefish Must be a male + female and should be added first
1 Flame Hawkfish will preclude shrimp
1 green mandarin (Add in 6 months) marginal in your tank
1 orangestripe goby
1 Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (Should I get 2) only if no hawkfish
2 Scissortail Dartfish
1 Snapping Shrimp
1 yellow watchman
1 Coral Beauty
1 Bulb Anemone only after tank matures

In general, that is a lot of fish for that sized tank

1 Evergreen Starburst Polyp - Aquacultured
1 Glove Polp
1 Maxima Clam, Blue - Aquacultured (Add 1 year)
1 Ricorda Mushroom Blue Green
1 Turquoise Staghorn
1 Birdsnest Coral, Green
1 Blue Acropora Millepora (Add 1 year)
1 Bubble Coral, Pearl

75 Gallon reef tank. with a sump.

1 Meiacanthus grammistes this fish is semi-aggressive and may intimidate your firefish

2 percula clownfish

1 Nemateleotris magnifica If you must have two firefish, they need to be a male + female of the same species

1 Nemateleotris decora

1 Gobiodon citrinus

1 Gramma loreto

1 Siganus unimaculatus, if I can have this guy and one tang below, that would make my day. Well a Ctenochaetus tang is marginal and must be added last

or one of these three,

Acanthurus pyroferus ,
Ctenochaetus tominiensis, or
Ctenochaetus truncatus

Hi. Fairly new to the saltwater reef tank game so any advice appreciated. I have a 90 gal tank with 95 lbs. live rock, remora pro skimmer. 5 months old with no real serious issues yet. At present, I have a small yellow tang, tomini tang, 2 banggai , 2 clowns and a 4 "mag. Foxface. All get along fine. I am noticing all kinds of small critters on the rock including some bristleworms. Would you add a 6 line wrasse or maybe a bicolour dottyback to keep them under control? Thanks, Bill

three grazers on the large side will eventually be a problem; the banggai must be a male + female pair, ideally tank bred. I would not add a six line wrasse or a dottyback as they are aggressive fish. By the way, bristle worms are good.

Welcome to Reef Central. This thread is focused exclusively on marine fish compatibility: with each other and with the environment you are providing. While we do not make recommendations, we will be quite happy to provide commentary on a stocking list you provide. If you post your other questions as a separate topic in New to the Hobby you will get a lot of help!

Thank you for the response and pointing me in the right direction for my post. We have been trying to decide on a list of fish for the tank and here are our current thoughts:

1 Jewel Damsel
1 Flasher Wrasse
1 Kole Yellow Eye Tang
1 Midas Blenny

and once the tank is well established 1 Mandirin Dragonette

Once again this will be a 75 gallon reef with some shrimp, crabs, snails and other inverts.

Thanks in advance for your advise!

1 Jewel Damsel I tend not to recommend damsels as they are aggressive
1 Flasher Wrasse be sure tank is covered (not egg crate)

1 Midas Blenny

and once the tank is well established 1 Mandirin Dragonette

mandarin and lawnmower

mandarin and lawnmower

I'm wondering about putting these two in the same 55-gallon tank (quite a bit of live rock, although I'm not seeing huge amounts of pods). I'm not worried about their not getting along as much as I would that they would be competing for the same limited food source.

They do not compete for food and are unlikely to have behavioral issues. However a mandarin in a relatively new tank that is on the smallish side is unlikely to work.

Thank You Snorvich! I cut it down. 65 Gallon Red Max. Would this work and why is the Green Mandain marginal. Do I wait a year? I am willing to take my time to get it right. I like that fish! Is this enough of a clean up crew or do I make it bigger or smaller?

3 Astraea Conehead Snail
3 Super Tongan Nassarius Snail
1 Fighting Conch
Fancy Vivid Ocellaris Clownfish (Pair)
1 green mandarin (Add in 6 months) marginal in your tank
1 orange stripe goby
1 Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (Should I get 2)
1 Snapping Shrimp
1 yellow watchman goby
1 Coral Beauty
1 Bulb Anemone only after tank matures (6 Months? I want to introduce it at the same time as the clown fish)

Look at adding a refugium, that will greatly enhance your odds of success. Then wait an additional 8 months

Is this enough of a clean up crew or do I make it bigger or smaller?

3 Astraea Conehead Snail add a few more, also look at adding other types of snails
3 Super Tongan Nassarius Snail
1 Fighting Conch
Fancy Vivid Ocellaris Clownfish (Pair)
1 green mandarin (Add in 6 months) marginal in your tank
1 orange stripe goby
1 Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (Should I get 2) two is better still
1 Snapping Shrimp
1 yellow watchman goby
1 Coral Beauty
1 Bulb Anemone only after tank matures (6 Months? I want to introduce it at the same time as the clown fish) clownfish may or may not associate with an anemone (the anemone hosts, clownfish associate), they are picky that way, and be sure you have the correct species of anemone

1 Evergreen Starburst Polyp - Aquacultured
1 Glove Polp careful with green star polyps and clove polyps as they will take over your tank
1 Maxima Clam, Blue - Aquacultured (Add 1 year)
1 Ricorda Mushroom Blue Green
1 Turquoise Staghorn
1 Birdsnest Coral, Green
1 Blue Acropora Millepora (Add 1 year)

Welcome to Reef Central! This thread is about marine fish compatibility. For your type of question post as a separate topic in New to the Hobby and you will get a huge amount of help. (Generally it is best to get the largest tank one can afford).

75 Gallon reef tank. with a sump.

1 Meiacanthus grammistes
I can live without firefish! But I like the clown goby.

2 percula clownfish
I like these so much.I must have a pair

1 Gobiodon citrinus
The only way I can have three clowns, so what if i cheat a little. LOL

1 Gramma loreto

1 Siganus unimaculatus

1 Acanthurus pyroferus
If the foxface has to go so be it.
Of the three I posted , I like this one the most.

1.1 Pair Pseudanthias ignitus

2 Chromis viridis

1 or two Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis

2 Chromis viridis I would not mix chromis and anthias

1 or two Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis
two if a male and female

Is it easy to attach a refugium to the red max set up? Which refugium should I add to it?

What Anemone will work? The advice I read in books and online sites say the Bubble Anemone is the easier anemone to keep which will bond with the clown fish. I like the Ritteri Anemone (Heteractis magnifica) but it says they are very difficult to keep.

I also read that I should only keep 1 snail for every 10 gallons of tank. Is this just a starting point? I will add 2 Chestnut Cowrie (Cypraea spp.) if my tank can handle it.

I removed the star polyp.

2 Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp will be added.

Do you have any suggestions on corals/polyps and how many should I keep?

I like dark blue lke the Coral Beauty and red.

Any other suggestions? I am interested in unique relationships and a happy tank.

Is the red max aquarium set up a good buy? If not what are your suggestions to include the additional equipment needed and brands to make this a success? I want to create an easy transfer from day to night and proper current circulation. Is a wave machine worth investing in?

Thank you for any input!!!

Well I think this is it? My last list. How is the bioload? Im thinking maybe a few gobies?

65-gallon reef tank, about 30 pounds agrocrete rock and a piece of established live rock, 3-inch sand bed, Seaclone 100 skimmer

18 Nassarius
12 Cerith
2 hermit crabs (1 blue-legged, one Clibanarius antillensis)
2 fire shrimp
some kind of small bivalve

2 juvenile oscellaris in quarantine

Want to add:
Midas blenny
Coral beauty angel
Royal gramma or blackcap basslet

Coraline algae is starting to spread from the live rock, and the snails are laying eggs, so I assume my tank is reasonably healthy.

My question: to cut down on potential territory battles, in which order should add the Midas blenny, the coral beauty, and the royal gramma (or blackcap)?

Please do not remove my magenta coloration replies and PLEASE do not use blue coloration on your questions. As I have answered (literally) thousands of these questions, I keep the coloration scheme constant so I can easily differentiate your questions from my answers.

With anemones, always go with easiest and least aggressive. As far as which refugium go with largest feasible. In the long run you will be happier.
