Fish purchase list for 55 gallon fowlr. Im sticking to 1 - 2 inch of fish per gallon based on adult size.

That "rule" does not apply to saltwater and even for freshwater, it is problematic.

1 yellowtail damsel very aggressive
1 blue devil damsel very aggressive
1 green chromi
1 perc clown
1 yellow tang not in this sized tank
1 dwarf flame angel not reef safe
1 copper banded butterfly a very difficult fish and not for a new to the hobby; it requires peaceful non aggressive tank mates

Total this should be approx 30 inch of fish full grown. I will alsohave an anenome, pepper mint shrimp and 2-3 snails.

This is all end tank and im a long way off. I would also like the option of maybe adding a couple hardy corals down the line. I do not use a sump either if this helps for eval

4. Pink Skunk Clown and/or Lemon Peel Angel (would both be too much bioload and would they get along with each other as both are semi-aggressive?)

When the clown matures into a female, it may not tolerate the angel. But bioload while marginal, should be fine.

Question...won't the clown only mature into a female if another clown is present? I was under the impression that if you bought a male clown it would stay male unless another male was added. Then one would stay male and one would turn female. Does this not apply to larger clowns? I have only ever owned either occys or percs. Thanks!

Small clowns when purchased are un-sexually differentiated juveniles. Over time, they will become female. Two juveniles together will mature sexually; one becoming female, the other male. The male will go through a submission dance during this process, sometimes being killed by the emerging female. Assuming both come through this process, they go through a "bonding" experience prior to actually spawning.

I have a 80 gallon 5 ft long reef, and so far I have a midas blenny, fire goby, royal gramma, and a blue green chromis. The next fish on my list is a pair of clownfish and flasher wrasse. After I have alot of experience, and I get more settled in, I want to eventually get some kind of butterfly fish or angelfish. Is there any that will be ok in a reef tank, and have enough room? I would like to have a coral beauty maybe

Thanks! I had it backward. I have never kept a single clown before, only a pair.

From your posts in other areas, I would make sure your quarantine protocol is in place properly (just a suggestion :love2: ) Dwarf angels are not reef safe, primarily towards meaty LPS corals. I see no behavioral problems in your fish list and you will have plenty of biocapacity BUT flasher wrasses jump and egg crate does not keep them in.

Here is what I have that moved from my 75 gallon to my new 180
5" Naso Tang will grow too large for a 180 gallon tank
Ocellaris Clownfish
Three Pajama Cardinals
3 Green Chromis If you add chromis, they will widdle themselves down until there is only one or two
YWG + Pistol Shrimp
Lawnmower Blenny
Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
Peppermint Shrimp

What I want to add to the above is as follows:
Yellow Tang
Blue Hippo Tang needs a larger tank
a second small Ocellaris Clownfish to hopefully pair with my female best it be a very small one
4 more green chromis see above
2 firefish for long term, needs to be a male + female
Royal Gramma

My tank will be a mixed reef all are reef safe

I want to order these but I wanted to get a second opinion before I submit my order

Thanks

Clean up crew just moved in, time to start thinking about fish. Clean up crew consists of 2 peppermint shrimp, two nassicirus snails (yeah, I butchered that spelling) and a red-footed crab.

Brand new 25-28 gallon, all-in-one reef tank. As it is a very small tank, I would like just a couple of fish that will add to the tank, and I want to put them in in the right order.

What is a good first fish for a tank this small? I was thinking of a Blenny or Goby, something that will help with clean-up, but still come out and be seen once comfortable with the tank. I know you usually do fish compatibility, but I am hoping for a shove in the right direction of tank/fish compatibility. I know this tank will have minimal occupants, including corals, I just want to do it right.

Thanks!

As all who follow this thread know, I do not do specific recommendations. In general, you want 4-6 small fish with compatible personalities. I will be happy to comment if you provide a stocking list.

I understand and appreciate that, Steve...

I've done fish-only for quite a while, and I need to start researching my reef-safe fish, especially for a tank this small. I want to make sure I have a diverse, but reef-safe population in this tank, but am not sure where I want to start.

I do "follow" this thread (I am not subscribed but read all the stickys when they have new posts) and will certainly seek your input once I figure out what I want to do with this tank. I am setting up my QT tank now, so I need to get cracking, I guess!

50g with pair of Clark's Clowns

50g with pair of Clark's Clowns

I've been running my tank for 2 months and have my my first few occupants just settled in. I'm just investigating future possibilities, and have no intention of adding any livestock for a few more months at the soonest. My current setup:

Gear:
50g (36x20x18)
50lbs live rock
30lbs aragonite sand
Deltec MCE300 skimmer
Koralia Evolution 550 powerhead
2 Aqueon Pro 200w heaters
4x39w T5HO lights

Livestock:
2 Clark's Clowns (~3")
2 Fire shrimp
5 Astrea snails
4 Nassarius snails
4 Scarlet hermit crabs (I know they're a threat to the snails, but I like 'em)

I know the clown's can be very territorial, so I'm wondering if any of these are realistic to consider:

1 Coral Beauty or Flame Angel
1 Midas Blenny or Watchman Goby

I do plan to add some softies as some point, and possibly an anemone eventually, but the fish are the main focus.

Thanks for your advice!

Once sexually mature and bonded, exceptionally so

so I'm wondering if any of these are realistic to consider:

1 Coral Beauty or Flame Angel Iffy unless introduced very early
1 Midas Blenny or Watchman Goby Either should be ok, but introduce early

I do plan to add some softies as some point, and possibly an anemone eventually, but the fish are the main focus.

37 Gallon Reef Tank
(no reef yet though haha)
- Live Sand
- Base Rock
- 2 Yellow/Blue Damsels
- 1 Blue with Yellow Tail Damsel
- 10 red hermits

Thinking about getting a small horseshoe crab ... any gallon minimum this guy would need? Are they reef safe?

Thanks, Steve! I'm guessing that pretty much any fish that lives up in the water column is going to be dicey? (Assuming that it is otherwise of appropriate size and community compatible) Or are there other examples that would hold their own better against the clowns?

This thread is about marine fish compatibility; however horseshoe crabs are not reef safe

Yes, water column fish will be dicey although if you enter them before the clowns mature you may be ok.
