all should be fine.

your success is my happiness

-new 120 gallon 48/24/24 tank
-150 gallon sump with bio-balls
-going to add a lot of dry rock and some fiji live rock
-using some crushed coral for the back of the tank and dry sand for the front half

Fish I would like to get over time:
-Starry blenny, midas blenny, and sandhopper blenny
-Dispar Anthias
-a few firefish
-ocellaris clownfish
-convict tang
-either a yellowhead, black cap, or chinstrap jawfish
-six line or flasher wrasse
-foxface lo
-some sort of reef compatible butterfly fish, maybe orange butterfly
-some snails, banded coral shrimp, and some other shrimps/crabs
-bicolor angelfish
-hopefully a some species of basslet, a flounder, and some sort of hawkfish

I know it's kind of a lot, but it is pretty much my wishlist right now and it would be nice to know if these species would work out together in my aquarium or any tips on how to set up my rock formations and sandbed.

Fish I would like to get over time:
-Starry blenny, midas blenny, and sandhopper blenny I would only do one blenny. A sandhopper blenny is not a blenny at all and I do not recommend it with small fish
-Dispar Anthias
-a few firefish one will work, more will not long term
-ocellaris clownfish
-convict tang
-either a yellowhead, black cap, or chinstrap jawfish
-six line or flasher wrasse flasher would be good, a six line would not due to aggression towards similar fish
-foxface lo
-some sort of reef compatible butterfly fish, maybe orange butterfly
-some snails, banded coral shrimp, and some other shrimps/crabs
-bicolor angelfish not reef safe
-hopefully a some species of basslet, a flounder, and some sort of hawkfish hawkfish are not shrimp safe and flounders are also ambush predators.

As this thread is only about marine fish compatibility, it would be best to ask other questions as a separate thread in New to the Hobby

55 gallon Fowlr
50 lbs of sand, 50+ lbs of live rocks
Tank has been running for about month and a half. Water parimeters checking out at zeros with ph at 8.3.

I have a pair of ocel. clowns in there now with about 10 snails (cerith, astrea, nassarius, turbos) and that's it.

I was thinking of adding the following:

Lawnmower Blenny
Diamond Goby
Orchid or Purple Dottyback
Coral Beauty,Lemonpeel or Rusty. Havent quite decided on which dwarf
Pearlscale Butterfly

Two dwarf angels is no no correct? lol

Other suggestions on livestock would be appriciated thanks. Also advice on order to add them in.

Hi!

I'm in the spitballing part of planning & like the idea of pairs/trios/groups so...

100g DT 48x30x16
100-150g sump
200 lbs LR to distribute

-3 flame angels (females to start)
-1 saddle valentini puffer
- 5-7 (group) of sapphire damsels (or other grouping of similar size fish)

I feel like this is a bit much but want to hear it.

Thanks!

Are there any good reef safe/somewhat inexpensive butterflyfish for a 120 gallon tank???

Actually, this thread does not work that way. I will be happy to analyze any stocking list for compatibility. But as those who follow this thread know, I do not make recommendations for a variety of reasons. I will be happy to look at any perspective stocking list, however.

Impossible to answer, because, as you said, it depends on fish behavior

1) I'd like to have 4 tangs (Yellow, Kole, Hippo, and Blonde Naso), if it's possible. Four tangs, two of which are very large, in a six foot tank is unlikely to succeed long term
2) A pair of percula clowns.
3) Either a flame or coral beauty angel (yes, I know that some may nip at corals). correct, no dwarf angel is coral safe, especially LPS
4) A bluethroat trigger. no trigger is totally invert safe in the long run
5) A wrasse to be determined later (reef-safe one, of course).
6) 3 chromis will become one over time
7) 3 anthias anthias do best if fed multiple times per day so depends on species
8) Bicolor blenny
9) Diamond goby
10) Damsel (one of the least aggressive ones - or are they all mean?) no, and in your sized tank should not be an issue
11) Mandarin (once the tank is established, of course, perhaps after a year or so)

Is that too many fish? 5 largish fish, 4 of which occupy the same ecological niche may not be peaceful long term
If not, how many more can I add?

Would welcome any input.

Thanks!

If 4 tangs are too many in this sized tank, how many do you think would be safe? 2 or 3?

And I don't think I caught what you meant in regards to the chromis (about becoming one over time); could you please clarify?

Thanks!

So if I sold my coral banded shrimp and kept the royal Gramma and Sixline wrasse would that work? I am the guy that had the 10 gallon. Thanks a lot!

If 4 tangs are too many in this sized tank, how many do you think would be safe? 2 or 3? depending on type of tang, 2 would work. The length is the critical element not gallonage

And I don't think I caught what you meant in regards to the chromis (about becoming one over time); could you please clarify? chromis are aggressive; ovr time, the dominant one will kill off the rest. Takes a while though

Thanks!

one small fish plus inverts/corals would work; a sixline wrasse pretty much precludes other fish of a similar nature even in larger tanks

You read them all!!!!??? I think over the two groups of posts (the thread had to be split twice) we are up around 15,000 posts (the current thread alone has 9000 or so).

I read them all before posting too. Must have done something right, as my list was good to go first time I posted it.

Tank start date 12/23/13

Current setup -
28G Nano Cube
Steve's LED retrofit kit (added 2/15/14)
25lbs live rock
40lbs live sand bed
inTank media basket w/ ChemiPure (not Elite) in Chamber 3, PhosGuard & Purigen in chamber 2, small sponge & floss in chamber 1.
Stock pumps

Fish -
a mis-matched pair of Occelaris Clowns (1 orange & white, 1 black & white)
a green chromis
a firefish

CUC - cleaner shrimp
pep shrimp
emerald crab
various snails

Corals - assorted zoas
Mushrooms & Ricordea
White pipe organ
Green polyp toadstool
Torch
Cream toadstool
Circus acan frag
Red acan frag
Pumping Xenia
Suncoral
Christmas Favia
Red / Green Favite
Red eye chalice
Star polyps
Green pipe organ frag

I would like to add a Watchman Goby, or a Ruby Red Goby?

Any other suggestions for interesting fish in this little cube? I love my clowns, but they tend to stay against the back wall. The chromis will come out to "hunt"/feed in the current, but then goes in back to hide in the live rock. The firefish stays out in the middle most of the day, but will dart for a hiding hole when ever there's motion near the tank. Looking for ideas for fish that like to stay up front and center ...

Yellow watchman goby
