We have a reef tank with mix of corals and fish

Fish and things
Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse (Arrow wrasse)
Fox face rabbit fish needs a larger tank
Clownfish X2 species?
Anemone (condy) had one but he split so now two smaller.
Spotted cardinal fish X2
Blue tang needs a much larger tank
Hermit crabs x 2
Snails x2
Peppermint shrimp x2
Bi colour Blenny

Corals
Hammer
Moonstone
Mushroom
Disk coral
Bubble
Torch coral
Zoo rock

Want to add Whip Fin Fairy Wrasse... Will they be ok together?

they need a larger tank and are very aggressive

Tank is 50gl just over 1 year old.

Blue throat trigger, Foxface and Yellow tang are in my cart but not sure if I'll order it yet.
Orange spot goby, Mandarin and two small ocellarius clowns are already in 120 with 50 gallon sump. Bioload and handle it. I know foxface and yellow tang will get along. Trigger seems fine from what I've read. Mixed reef. Most have snail for CUC(mainly nerite and nass.) One cleaner shrimp, 2 porcelain crabs and a large emerald crab(2.5" body only). How risky is this?

No trigger is invert safe. If the tank is mature (9 months), the mandarin would be fine and others would be ok. But you would do well to have a quarantine protocol.

Tank is about 14 months in. Haven't seeded tank for four months and mandarin is doing fine. I'm going to take a gamble on the blue jaw trigger. I'd rather than the fish than some of the inverts. Seen my emerald crab displace 5 lb rocks.

If the emerald crab is that large, it is not fish safe.

Hi folks,

For equipment I have the following:
90 gal, 4 ft tank
about 1" rough sand substrate
about 85 lbs of LR (This started as 65 lbs of dead rock and 20 lbs of LR)
20 gal sump with Octopus Protein Skimmer
Glass lid

I have:
Snowflake Clown
Six-lined Wrasse
Hermit Crabs
Snails (Turbo and another type)

I lost a Black Ocellaris Clown and a Fire Shrimp. Reason unknown.

My tank has been setup for about 7 weeks. I added my first fish on Apr 11th.

I would like to add the following:
Lawnmower Benny
Copperband Butterfly
Longfin Fairy Wrasse (I would like two, but we'll see)
Orange-Black Fairy Wrasse
Black Ocelarris Clown (replacement of lost one)

Thanks
Herb

Starting a tank this week. It's 56G and no sump. Got a Fluval 306 Filtration unit and about 58 lbs of Indo Dry Live Rock ready to go in soon. About 20-40 lbs of live sand is expected to be used on the bottom of the tank as well.

What I plan to have in the tank, listed in order of my plan to get them and expecting 3-4 weeks in between. I am also hoping to be able to set up a 10 gallon quarantine tank by the second round of fish additions. I also have a reefkeeper elite that's going to control 2 Koralia Evo 850 circulation pumps, a Tunze 3155 ATO, and in-tank refugium (planning to get it started within the first week of the tank being started), and Current USA Orbit Marine LED Lighting kit.

1. 3-5 Blue Green Chromis
2. 2 clownfish (Ocellaris)
3. 2 goby's (maybe sand shifting ones) and a shrimp

After those, I will likely want to start on a clean-up crew, here are some of my ideas for what I want, but I haven't done too much research on some of them:
1. Emerald Crabs
2. some shrimp that'll clean the bottom or clean the fish
3. 1 starfish would be cool but not sure which I could get

Then after a few months of the tank being all set up, I plan to add a Lemon Peel Angel to the tank and then a month or two after that, a Mandarin, which should have enough food because of the refugium running for a very long time.

It would be nice to also get an anemone or two but I understand they move and it may be a bit of work to make sure the tank is safe for them even when I am travelling for a few days. Everything I am doing is to try and create the best environment for the fish so that a pretty regular maintenance schedule can be established and followed along with my automation tools

Anyone have any advice for me? I just saw here that a Emerald Crab could be really strong, is that a problem for the fish I listed or have yet to find? I am open to other ideas for my clean-up crew and main fish.

Hermit Crabs will kill snails in the long run

I would like to add the following:
Lawnmower Benny wait until tank is more mature (about 4 months)
Copperband Butterfly after tank is 9 months mature
Longfin Fairy Wrasse (I would like two, but we'll see) aggressive; if you do two, must be a male and female
Orange-Black Fairy Wrasse
Black Ocelarris Clown (replacement of lost one)

1. 3-5 Blue Green Chromis I do not advocate chromis, especially more than one because: groups will end up being only the one dominant one, and because chromis are highly susceptible to uronema marinum
2. 2 clownfish (Ocellaris)
3. 2 goby's (maybe sand shifting ones) and a shrimp two, unless a bonded pair, will not coexist long term

After those, I will likely want to start on a clean-up crew, here are some of my ideas for what I want, but I haven't done too much research on some of them:
1. Emerald Crabs when large are not fish safe
2. some shrimp that'll clean the bottom or clean the fish all shrimps are scavengers so they will clean up excess food. However cleaner shrimp do not have any effect on parasite control. Some fish like being "cleaned", others will not allow it
3. 1 starfish would be cool but not sure which I could get will starve

Then after a few months of the tank being all set up, I plan to add a Lemon Peel Angel to the tank and then a month or two after that, a Mandarin, which should have enough food because of the refugium running for a very long time.

When emerald crabs are large, they are not fish safe, it is not their strength that is an issue

If you do not advocate Blue Green Chromis, what else would you recommend as a starter fish? They seemed like the best choice I've heard about

Ok, I will wait on the Lawnmower Blenny and the Butterfly. And I will probably not go with the Longfin.

So, new fish, hopefully soon:
Orange-Black Fairy Wrasse
Black Ocelarris Clown
Firefish (Would like two)

How about this?

Thanks
Herb

there is no real "starter fish"; either your tank is cycled or it is not. You should not cycle a tank with live animals.

So I broke my 240 gallon... So new stocking plan. Going back to my first reef tank which was a seahorse tank.

Aquarium Sea horse tank Inhabitants:

Banded Pipefish
Doryrhamphus dactylophorus
Pipefish
Added: April 22, 2014

Catalina Goby
Lythrypnus dalli
Gobies
Added: April 22, 2014

Court Jester Goby
Amblygobius rainfordi
Gobies
Added: April 22, 2014

Green Mandarin
Synchiropus splendidus
Dragonets
Added: April 22, 2014

Jawfish, Yellowhead
Opistognathus aurifrons
Jawfish
Added: April 22, 2014

Kuda Seahorse
Hippocampus kuda
Seahorse
Added: April 22, 2014
Quantity: 2

This is my first try at other fish besides rainfords (was great), pipefish (was great), and firefish(huge mistake).

I have selected H. Kuda because of the size of display. If H. Kuda is so big it will eat the other fish I would easily switch to H. Cf Kuda or H. Erectus.

Thanks again.

I do not have experience keeping seahorses, so I would suggest posing this question in the forum devoted to this type of animal.
