rAISE aLK WITHOUT raising Calcium

How do I raise my alkalinity without raising my calcium?

I do not want to add straight alkalinity it will throw the balance out worse right?

The two part is supposed to be added in equal parts right?

Please clarify...sometimes I know the answer but mind is playing tricks on me these days so double checking,
Thanks
Tim

ionic balance??

ionic balance??

I Thought if I added one and not the other it would throw out the ionic balance? They are supposed to be added in equal amounts the A&B ionic right>?

Take the CA reactor -- you find the alk & CA on start up then dose alk until stable @ where you want it.
Then check CA & do the same. Does not have to be done together until you reach the numbers - then together to hold it there.

You will throw off the ionic balance an incredibly small amount, probably less than it's already off. Artificial salt mixes are a compromise in the first place, so I wouldn't worry about adding a little alkalinity supplement.

2 part is dosed in conjunction. They don’t raise or lower one another.

The best way to lower your alkalinity is adding freshwater to the aquarium. Best way to raise it is to dose.

Adding fresh water to lower alkalinity to a noticeable extent will lower the salinity an unacceptable amount. Generally, just waiting is a fine way to lower alkalinity. Water changes with lower alkalinity saltwater will work, and a mineral acid can be used to lower the alkalinity of water for changes, if need be. The original poster wanted to raise alkalinity, though.
