Rarest clam in the hobby...? Hybrid inside!

it would be like a human, which shares a pair of legs, but has two upperbodies. one upper body has lungs, and the other has a heart. (for an analogy... idk if this is possible in real life though)

Actually, it seems more to me like a human with a cleft lip. Certainly an oddity to some degree, though.

Here's a pic that shows the seperate mantles a bit better... it's in a special zero-edge tank where it can remain happy/healthy! :)

I think his point was the topic was WAY overstated. with these french polynesian maximas hitting the market you have to come better than a double mantle ora

you guys have issues!

you guys have issues!

I've seen many French Polynesian Maximas over the years. Hundreds.
Never seen a double mantled clam before, though.

Thanks for sharing, Cali! :)

So sorry I can't please you! :rolleye1: Hope everyone else enjoyed.

Hey, you asked for comments... Do you want the truth or do you want people to go through the motions and tell you what you want to hear?

When you're touting somnething as the nicest/rarest clam in the hobby I expect a lot more than that.

I apologize for my choice of words, as they are clearly being misinterpreted...

I never "touted" or claimed that it was the rarest/nicest clam in the hobby (hence the ? at the end of the line). I appriciate your honesty, I just thought it was pretty rare and that I would give other reefers a chance to view it; which I did. ;)

No problem Gary... what you said is very true. Those Polynesian clams are absolutely beautiful, but certainly don't display the "deformation" that this perticular maxima does. As a matter of fact, none of them do; which is what makes this specific one so special.

Hope everyone else enjoyed the photo! :fish1:

Great picture and even more of a rare clam. Whether its a hybrid or not, that double mantle is pretty different!

Thanks for sharing Cali!
