I see what you are talking about, but do not think it is a seperate mantle.
it would be like a human, which shares a pair of legs, but has two upperbodies. one upper body has lungs, and the other has a heart. (for an analogy... idk if this is possible in real life though)
So sorry I can't please you! :rolleye1: Hope everyone else enjoyed.Novelty aside it doesn't look like anything special color wise...
It isn't.My question still stands. Why is this a hybrid?

I never "touted" or claimed that it was the rarest/nicest clam in the hobby (hence the ? at the end of the line). I appriciate your honesty, I just thought it was pretty rare and that I would give other reefers a chance to view it; which I did. When you're touting somnething as the nicest/rarest clam in the hobby I expect a lot more than that.
No problem Gary... what you said is very true. Those Polynesian clams are absolutely beautiful, but certainly don't display the "deformation" that this perticular maxima does. As a matter of fact, none of them do; which is what makes this specific one so special.I've seen many French Polynesian Maximas over the years. Hundreds.
Never seen a double mantled clam before, though.
