redtop03's 360 gallon plywood adventure

thanks matt,

its came along faster than I imagined it would, but I'm at a stand still for now,the part I've been dreading.....moving my other tanks and going under the house,to add some support, then I have to do all my electrical work......still a long road ahead....but I think my tank is gonna be fine :)

mightyevil, that'll be a sweet set up.....the lights nice....if you keep the tank bare bottom, you wont need a light for the fuge either :)

Thats true hahaha, this thing is like a piece of the sun.

Looks a little like an acrylic tank, which should have solid bottom support. A piece of 3/4" plywood on top of that stand would do it. What happened to the plywood tank?

Rhodophyta, the tank and stand still need some more work. The stad still needs a lot of work, all the plywood is sitting out in my garage, by no means is the stand supposed to stay that way.

on the exterior,I just used the sweetwater paint,3 or 4 coats,I didn't use the fiberglass

because it turned out nice and smooth...no sanding or fill? just 3-4 coats? sorry been busy...good to see the newest images today

Remember I am trying to catch up...did you discuss lighting yet? what was the estimated weight before water?

I did lightly sand some between coats,I filled the screw holes with bondo autobody filler.....I didn't think the exterior needed much more than for enough for the occasional light spills and to kind of protect from humidity........for the lights I have 2 of the 48"Oddysea MH/PC combo, light that I will be using......as for the weight,I really don't know but I think 2 good stout people could carry it for a short distance 4 good stout people could carry it easy

fantastic job Willie--your thread is a model to follow for anyone who wants to make a wooden tank.

Rhodophyta, mightyevil is working on a 180 gallon pre made tank, set up.....chris and matt are both building plywood tanks
 Thanks, but that is pretty self evident. I appreciate you pointing it out. Plexiglass tanks need solid support under the bottom. Glass tanks need support on the edges particularly the corners, and plywood tanks are in between those two extremes.

Rhodophyta,
when you ask "What happened to the plywood tank?"I thought you had mightyevil mixed up with chris or matt.....I know I get confused easily, with who's who, chatting with so many folks :)

 ok I'm confused....which plywood tank......Chris's,Matt's,or mine

chris, hasn't said anything about his in a while

matt,hasn't started his yet

I think mine is gonna be ok it's full of water and no leaks, everything seems to be holding well, neither the glass panel nor any of the wood panels are bowing from the water pressure...........

your suggestion on the stand, was a big improvement to what I was gonna do,it is a lot stronger....seems to be supporting the tank very well,...thank you

hello chris, glad to see your still keeping an eye on me :)

mightyevil,
I don't have a problem with you posting pics here,I'm here to learn from others and share what I've done,if I see something that you've done and I like it,I might try it myself...I stay confused anyway,so don't let that bother you
