Reef Octopus "POV" PRO-SSS-DC1 thoughts?

Still haven't heard back from Jeremy... Pretty annoyed at this point as I've been more than patient and still do not have a properly function skimmer (that cost me $550).

Just emailed Jeremy requesting a new unit be sent to me. Honestly feel that even they manage to figure something out with my skimmer, and the problem in general, I'll always have an inferior product. Not to mention I've been dealing with this for a rather long period of time and am simply done!

I feel your pain, as do my inmates. I should probably have put my old skimmer back on line but still have hopes this DC-1 will work out. I do finally have parts on the way. We shall see. I'll be curious if I can find any alterations to my current design.

I sense that Jeremy is frustrated too. He's not the one calling the shots and either the parent company or the manufacturer is the one doing the evaluation. If Jeremy is being completely honest, there haven't been many problems and having retired from a manufacturing career, I know most companies are reluctant to spend on an expected small number of "defects'.

We are at 3K' above sea level and Jeremy thought that may be a contributor to the chugging-pulsing we experience here. Air density pressure I think was his reference. I wonder if the several others with this issue are similarly sited.

I like the design, however and hope it works out. The speed adjustability is of questionable use unless the pump has the potential to overdrive the system in average conditions. The feed delay needs to be adjustable as for example, when I feed corals, I need about 30 minutes, which requires me to power off the skimmer.

just my Nichols worth.

His response to my request for a completely new unit was that he sent out new parts for me to try again. Says Reef Octopus figured out the problem and it has to do with how air is drawn in.

No idea what new parts he sent, but still don't understand how they will fix the issue. Also don't understand why only a few DC1's are having this problem and why only those with the problem need altered parts... He still says it has nothing to do with the skimmer body or controller, but everything else has been replaced for me once already and the problem remains.

Elevation isn't the cause as I'm at 69' above sea level. I also tried various outlets in my home as well as running the skimmer in newly mixed saltwater in an isolated container. Haven't been able to find a common cause between all of us with the issue.

It would be beneficial to start your own thread if you are trying to speak about anything other than the topic of this thread.

There so many skimmers . I want a good one for my 180g . my head is sniping. So i call reefspecialists. He said go for Reef Octopus POV DC2 Space Saver Protein Skimmer is the most up-to-date skimmer out there . & other company's are going to follow this one . @Roman3310

I'd still recommend a POV skimmer to you, despite the problems with mine. Size depends on your system.

The new parts should arrive tomorrow. If they don't solve the problem 100% the only thing I'll accept is a totally new skimmer from them.

Has CoralVue acknowledged the existence of this problem yet? From my communication with them, they give me the feeling that they think the chugging is a fluke.

It would be nice if Jeremy could say something in this thread. I'm sure he has seen it.

He is sending me parts as well

Mine was chugging , but I raised the gate valve above water line. And it appeared to help

Yesterday, it lost its pressure again, then started back up

It's like it goes not feed mode, but the skimmer stays about 1/2 in the body, still running, then it takes a few hours to build back upto the neck

Says these parts will fix the issue, well see !

Not directly no, but Jeremy did tell me I'd end up with a refund if they can't fix it. That at least implies something...

I've directed him to this thread multiple times, can't imagine he hasn't read it.

I must say I did speak to Jeremy about this thread and my review. He knows this thread is here but isn't allowed to post outside his vendors forum. According to his understanding of RC rules.

I asked for his permission to quote him a bit on the stuttering but never heard back. In short i think at that point they were still stumped. We corresponded about the DC2's for a while. Matter of fact I just put an extension on mine. Anyway that was straight from him concerning his obligation to RC. Just the messenger here, FYI.

The air draw has to be the issue. Remember the more water you draw the more air you do. If this ratio is off or if the impeller is mis spaced (allusion from pic earlier) this could thro the ratio off. Effectively not giving the pump something to pump against causing lurches. This is seperate from the above and is my personal opinion.

The new parts, whatever they may be, are due to arrive today. I'll install them as soon as possible this evening, hopefully that resolves the problem!

Have you tried to put the skimmer in a vat of water so you could get closer to it when its running to try and pinpoint where the sound is originating from?

It would be interesting to see what you get Ser post those pictures! I wonder if parts includes POV assembly. Good to see them moving forward for you.

Good luck!
