Reefbreeders/(Evergrow OEM) Fixtures D120/IT20** series

I've got a value fixture above a 24x24x13 tank. I'm thinking about removing the optics(90 degree) to get better spread.
Would I still be able to keep acros without optics?

yes. with only a 13 inch deep tank, you'd never want to use 90* optics unless the fixture was 2 feet above the tank.

I just want the best fixture for the price. So far, these fit the bill (and I've tried a LOT of fixtures).

The new 8 channel RB fixture in development with wireless control intrigues me. I also sent some suggestions to Evergrow to their R&D based off my 6 channel, touch screen, DIY light that is almost done. I would have saved a ton of time if such options were available now, but I enjoy pushing the limit on what can be done.

I'm hoping it will get to a point where you can get the features and power of a DIY light, in a cost effective, sleek commercial fixture. ALL the big name companies have lacking fixtures atm, or their prices are outrageous.

6-8 channel control, clouds/thunderstorms/smooth ramping/GUI touch screen with slider bars, and a wireless conection for a good price would outclass anything on the market. I hope to see it become a reality in the near future.
I just ordered three photon 12's and would like your recommendation as to the color choice, number and placement of the leds. I have 24 hours to get back to Logan with this request and would most appreciate your help. Thanks

Use the standard layout.

What size or sizes of the photon should on my Oceanic 76gal half circle? Mostly lps and softies. I currently have a 36" 4lamp t5 that do pretty well. Was think a 32 would do.

If 36" t5 are doing well for you, a 32" RB or EG should do the job. I have 2 over my 180g (6' long) and they work great. They've been on 24/7 for 4 months now and haven't missed a beat.

I say your prob right. It's just a funny tank to light up. Now gotta wait on the next GB from RB.

Does anyone have par readings for tanks that are 22-24" tall without optics for the value fixture?

I haven't tested the PAR difference with and without optics. But when I got my first D120 and it wouldn't cover more than about 26-28" lengthwise in a 4' 55g tank. So I took the 90 degree lenses off and the total spread grew to a bit over 3', still not enough coverage for me. So I added a 2nd D120. But if you had a PAR of 200 at 24" down, and removing the lenses increase the total spread by 65% (from 725 sq in to 1225 sq in) it should reduce the PAR from 200 to roughly 120. I'm no mathematician, and I'm not 100% sure of light science, but I think I'm in the ballpark.

I have a 56 Gallon Column (30" W x 18" D x 24" H) that I'm about to start up. Going to begin the cycle this weekend. It looks like a RB Photon would be a great choice over the used 250W MH the system came with.

1) which size do you recommend (24" or 32")?
2) which optics should I use?
3) this will be mixed reef, little of everything, is the standard color layout good enough?

Thanks in advance for the help.

definitely not a 32. A 24 photon with the standard layout would be perfect. I'd go with 120* optics, so that your colors run together nicely and avoid the disco ball effect.

At 24" deep, I'd stick with the 90 degree lenses on all the blue and white leds, get extra 120's for the UV, violet, reds and greens. And I haven't seen much spotlighting or disco ball effect with these lights.

Hmmm not sure what to get for a 55 gallon. I was looking at the ATI Sunpower but I love the idea of led's. I looked through the thread but didn't see anything about 55 gallon tanks. Would one Photon 32 be sufficient since my tank is 48" tank?
