Reefbreeders/(Evergrow OEM) Fixtures D120/IT20** series

this thread is making me want to upgrade!!

currently have 2 150watt MH 14k on a 40 breeder

what do yall suggest??

photon32? with what optics?

24? what optics?

thanks!

I think the Photon32 or EG IT2080 would let you do ANYTHING you want in terms of types of coral and growth. At 18" deep, I'd consider 120 degree lenses and the swap out the ones at the ends for 90's. At 32" you only have 2" of tank off each end of the light. Switching to 90's will keep most of that light inside the tank and not out on the floor. You could even add a few 90's to some blues as you work in a few rows off the end, to avoid a harsh line in terms of more penetration at the ends than in the middle.

A Photon24 or EG IT2060 would be less expensive and would also do a great job over a 40g breeder. But I'd reverse the optics. Use 90's over all because you have far less leds, and do 120's at the ends because you have more tank hanging out beyond the end of the light and you want to get it covered (6" of tank off the end of the light vs only 2" with the 32" light).

I have the EverGrow (manufacturer of the RB fixtures) over all 4 of my tanks. I switched for mostly MH and 1 t5 tank. I was a real serious skeptic on leds 9 months ago, now, 4+ months into the new leds and I'm a big advocate! :bounce3:

Ron!

Awesome info! Thanks so much. yeh I'm leaning towards the 32 as I'm sure ill upgrade later and most likely it'll be a 6' tank so the 32 would be a better choice.

Thanks again!

I personally would stay with 120*'s on the photon 24. There is just no reason to have 90* optics on a 18 inch deep tank unless trying to avoid spillage on the glass. These units put out gobs of light, more than enough to spread out nice and reach the bottom, with less then 100% output going on.

Anyone have an extra set of hanging hardware for the Photon 24s?

I got a set with mine that did not fit the pegs on the fixture. Love the one that is hanging!

You are asking 51 3w leds driven at only 2.35w to light a 3' long tank and it may need to get hung a bit higher than normal. So I'd say buy the extra lenses, they cost all of 20 cents each and he'll need what 12-20 of them. Total cost is $4.00. Now he can go either way.

I had the same thing happen on another brand of fixture that EverGrow makes. I let them know and they sent me new hangers. Tell Reef Breeders and they should be willing to make it right for free.

ron,

how high should i have these up from the surface of the water?

mine right now sit like 6" or so...

and yes ill buy the extra lenses and see what suits my tank!

Hopefully he gets back to me quickly. I'd like to get this 2nd light up since my fish only assume half the lit tank is safe.

If you get the 32 you can have it that low with no problem. And be SUPER careful with how high you go with the power. I have 2 over my 24" deep 180g and I run 90% on the blues and 40% on the whites.

If you get the 24 you'll have to play with the height and the outside lenses. If you have 90's you may have to go higher. If you have 120's (all of it or just the outside rows) you can probably go a little lower. And either way you'll be able to go a bit higher with the power, but don't go crazy. With only 18" of water you could fry corals pretty quick, especially with 90 degree lenses.

I'd email him and call him (leave a message if you have to), ask him in the Reef Breeders sponsor forum down below and see what happens. If he makes good, or if he doesn't make good, be sure we hear about it here.

what im after is all the dimensions between each hole

IT2080__1__zpseb9c196f.jpg

where the yellow lines are you can see are the measurements i am after.

anychance i can get the measurements in metric and imperial too please if its not too much of an issue. than i can start to draw something up in solidworks and get to building :hammer:

I haven't seen anyone answer this yet..... I do know that the distance from end to end screw holes on the proton 32 is 21 1/4 in.
but as above I too need to find out the screw hole distance from the front hole to the back hole...

thanks...

Found out from another reefer.... 5-7/16 is the screw hole from front to back. Along with the 21 1/4 for the screw holes end to end on the proton 32.... Just as a FYI....

thanks AGAIN! =)

most likely ill get the 32 with 90 inside and 120 on the outside leds like you said..

I have a standard 125G 6' long with the two center braces. I was thinking of using 3 d120's or 3 it2040's if I can swing the extra cash. It sure adds up buying 3 of them. Assuming 3 is appropriate for this tank I can't seem to locate the it2040 anywhere on aliexpress. There seams to be tons of the d120's on there though. Am I missing something?

I guess I should have stated the other dimmensions when I made the post last night. The tank is 72" x 18"W x 22"H. It was late and I assumed everyone knew the size of the old school standard 125. Oops.

OK, Now I know that reefbreeders does a group buy. I can't believe I missed that on the 100's of pages i've read. So to follow my previous question here is what I'd like to know:

1. Should I get three of the smaller units for my 125 with the two braces?
2. Assuming yes to the first question is it worth the extra 300 I'll have to pay to get 3 untis so I can have the extra controlls that seem so cool?
3. Does Reefbreeders let you order custom layouts on the group buy and if so has anyone come up with a better default color pattern than the stock one?

Id like a Phoenix 14k look when the lights are at full daylight mode. They mention using only 4500k neutral whites and since I've never seen them it seems too yellow sounding in name alone. What are the feeling about the neutrals?

1) Get 3 small units for the 125g
2) I got the photon series and love it. I can ramp up and down my intensity and color any way I want. Doing this allows me to set it for the week during acclimation, and avoid burning my corals up due to being able to ramp up and down with a push of a button.
3) RB will let you customize your layout, but the stock layout is awesome and I wouldn't change a thing. The "white" channel is a 1:1 layout (1 blue to 1 white)(channel 2) and when on completely by itself with no channel 1 blues on it puts out a 12k look. With the blues on as well (at the same intensity as the whites) a very 18k look. Even after acclimation I will never run both channels at 100% (my SPS would melt) because these things are so bright. So if I'm looking for a 20 to 25k look its easy to run my white at 60% and my blues at 90% etc.

Thanks for the response. One thing confused me though. It seems you suggested I get the unit with out the control but then you mentioned how you love your unit with it. I'm glad you like the stock and it seems like that is what I'll go with. Sureley with being able to dial up the two channels as needed you should be able to come up with almost any color temp youd need.

EDIT: I see what you meant now. You were suggesting 3 for my 125g and I read it as 3 units at 125 ea. Doh!
So youd reccomend spending the extra $300 on those?
