I like the tank very much. The one issue I had was that seam I mentioned in my build thread. I talked to Derek about what it could be and he was unsure. He and his partner think it's cosmetic. But to err on the side of caution, he offered to build me a new one. I was a little reluctant at first, due to feeling bad about it. But he insisted that I not feel guilty. He said that ultimately he wanted me to be happy with my tank. So now I'm waiting on a new one. :)

You can't beat customer service like that, especially these days. :smokin:

BTW, that room is looking good. What brand of epoxy are you using?

Paul

Paul, glad to hear you are getting your tank replaced. I dont think there is anyone in this hobby who could live with cosmetic deficiencies in their display tanks. Good luck with the new one.

As far as the epoxy goes, there seems to be some decent variety in places like home depot. I think as long as I go with one of their two-part kits it should do the job. They are available in custom colours now with some pretty neat add-ons, or should I say additives, such as flakes and anti-skid texturing powders.

I will most likely be epoxying this week so will post results.

What do you guys think?

WOW!! I'm subscribed. You've got great taste there. The stand looks great. Did you powder coat that thing or just paint it??

Thanks for the complinents Wipp! In regards to the stand, I primed and painted it with my pneumatic spray gun. Suprised as I am, it turned out perfect. No drips, runs whatsoever. Kinda unfortunate that I am going to be cover the sides with skins.

Is your floor concrete? I stained my entire basement (1100 sf) for around $250. You could stain a room for less than $50 and have acid leftover for a buddy's project. It comes in all colors and if you hate it you can always finish it with something else. Epoxy is kind of like a tattoo.

Looking forward to watching this one progress.. You could showcase a bus on that stand.
Funny you should say that! A bus was actually used during R&D:rollface: haha!

Just moments ago we finished applying a two-part epoxy to the fish room as well as other regions of my basement. It worked out incredibly. I think the entire kit cost $100. Was as easy as painting however, preperation is key when applying anything....especially when it comes to epoxy!

The fish room is pretty much complete! 4 weeks later! About time huh!
Project is on schedule and the tank should have water in about 2 weeks. We will be starting the aquascaping in the next week or so.

Thank goodness this is almost done, Tim has spent more time with me than with his wife in the past month working to get this bad boy up and running. Rumours were abound that his wife had already initiated divorice papers!
And I think my girlfriend is ready to move out! :D

Sweet. Prep is key for sure. Took me two days to prep and a few hours to stain. Pics or it didn't happen!
Should have pics up tomorrow.

NOW that's a stand....!! Man...you can build a house on that one!

First a bus and now a house! Looks to me that I went a tad bit overkill on the stand design?!?! ;)

This should be awesome! Obviously well thought out. Any plans for stocking?
Stocking plan still in the works. With exhausting all my time to finish the fish room in time for the arrival of the tank, I have yet to find the time to collaborate with the wife on our fish-wish-list. Will post list soon enough.

Aquascaping Template

Heres a wood template I constructed to the exact dimensions of the display tank. This will be used next weekend to assist with aquascaping.

Yeah, too long. :D

I like youse guys'is mock-up idea for scaping. I'm going to use one of those folding plastic tables for mine. But having a vertical visual would be nice too.

Oh... and sweet job on the stand.
