Royal-Exclusiv Bubble King Double Cone 150 - PreOrder Now!

IN case anyone wants to make a stand themselves. Here are a couple of pictures of a quick and simple stand to make. The water level in my sump is 8 1/4" and I wanted to have the skimmer at 6 3/4".

I cut the PVC so that it plus the acrylic was 1 1/2" in total. It doesn't have to be pretty. Just work. :)

I built one just like that. I might lower mine a little bit. Right now the skimmer is sitting in 6" of water. That's around 15.25 cm. The recommended range is at least 15 but not more than 20cm with 17 being ideal. I want to get to that ideal range which is a little over 6.5 inches. So, I need to lower my stand about 1/2".
Also, I'm experimenting with different settings on the white pump dial/inlet thing. I had mine screwed in way too much and since I've un-screwed it to the recommended 2 turns, it works a lot better now.

I think 17cm worked out to something like 6.69" Mine works out to 6.75".

You will get a better idea on the performance after it breaks in. Btw, since you said that there isn't really anything in your tank, you won't see what the skimmer can do yet.

So What happened at 8 1/4 water lever KEN?

I just set mine up and want to know if it absolutly necessary to be at the 15-20cm because that's 8 1/4 is about 21cm.

Also where are you guys putting the water level?

The build Quality is amazing as usual and it is quiet as all can be amazing love it so far.

The 8 1/4" water is the depth of my sump, not the depth I'm keeping the skimmer at. That's why I made the stand. With the skimmer on the stand, it will be sitting at a depth of 6 3/4". This is approximately 17mm.

Mine is now sitting in 6.5" of water and it seems to be the sweet spot. I don't need the stand pipe cranked up all the way anymore. Even with nothing in the tank its still able to skim some junk out from the dry rock I have in there. I also can't believe how quiet it is. I've had a bubbleking before and I don't remember it being this quiet. It literally doesn't make any noise. Very pleased!

I hooked up the new pump. Thanks Jeremy for the quick service.

I put the skimmer in the sump at 6.75", but it does not seem to be working correctly. The water seems to be pulsating into the skimmer. The water/foam level increases and decreases in rhythm. I also see air/water pulsating through the silicone tube from the volute into the red standpipe. Also there is water exiting the standpipe from the hole where the silicone tube goes in. I can also here the air at the silencer making a pulsating sound. This doesn't seem normal to me.

Here is a picture of where I mean. Can anyone offer any ideas?

Thanks,
Ken

Ken, I had the exact same issue at first. I thought something was wrong as well. What that means is you need to unscrew the little white piece that goes into the pump a little bit more. First screw it in all the way, then unscrew it 2 full turns. That should take care of the problem.
You'll probably want to lower your water level inside the skimmer as well. That should help with the water coming out of the hole where the silicone tubing exits the standpipe. It doesn't hurt anything though for water to exit there.

And here's a pic of what my skimmer is doing now. Like I said, its a brand new tank with only dry live rock and a few pounds of live rock seeding it. I don't even have a clean up crew yet!

But do you get water in the silicone tube? I have air and water. The pump is not working correctly. If I take the pump out of water and run it for a quick moment, it makes the same pulsating sound. Not smooth.

I did turn the white piece as you said. That is not the issue.

If I close the standpipe to the point that I get the water/air mixture to where the collection cup scores on, the water will then drip down about 1/2" or so and then go back up about every second or two. This is accompanied with the should of the pump sounding like revving and calming down.

No way this is normal. Have two other BK skimmers and countless others in the past. It should be one steady level and not up and down every couple of seconds.

The water level has nothing to do with the water coming out of that hole.

Mine is up now 24hrs and it's working like a Champ. Quiet as can be I couldn't be happier!!

I have the wedge pipe wide open and it is sitting in 7 3/4" of water I may raise it up after a while but right now I'm not making a stand as it seems to be skimming perfectly and should improve in the next few days. My nozzle unscrewed 2 turns also.

Here is a quick pic after 24hrs.

Mine pulsed a bit when first plugging it in Ken.

Open the wedge-pipe all the way.
Turn the Valute on the pump all the way in then two turns out.

Then let us know what happens.

I noticed on this pic looks like your water level is at the top of the T the riser pipe is in? Is this where your water level is? I measured mine to the top of the T and it's 5" so from this pic looks like the water level is at 5" ya know? Or is the level about an inch above the T?

You can't tell the water level from the picture. The skimmer is sitting in 6 3/4" of water. The water is about 3" above the top of the opening of the tee.

I can tell you now, it's the pump. The water is pulsating from the pump and in the skimmer. The water is not supposed to rise and drop down in the skimmer every second. I can see it visually and hear the sound of the pump like it is revving.
Ken

Mine did that for the first day or two, then after I messed with the white intake piece it stopped. I think I may have had water in the silicone tubing at some point as well. You'll want to try to work that out of there. That may be the cause. I think if you mess with it enough it will stop.

DC-150 nozzles

DC-150 nozzles

Hi Ken...

please screw the white nozzle out more, as on the Picture.

The surging sound is coming, if the white nozzle is to much closed. The nozzles from the RD1 Pumps hase larger Threads and not comporable to the smaller DC-Nozzles. The Starting Point for the Double-Cone nozzles 150 is 4-5 Turns outscrew.

Hope it helps....

best regards .. Klaus

Waterlevel....

Waterlevel....

Best waterlevel for the DoubleCones 150 is 15 - 20 cm. The Skimmer on the Pictures has 18 cm waterlevel.... Maximum Level is 22-23 cm

best regards... Klaus
