Royal-Exclusiv Bubble King Double Cone 150 - PreOrder Now!

Klaus,

I have a question as well, and it looks like the same question.

Here are a couple of pics of my skimmer. It is running 48 hours but only 24 since I made the adjustment to 5 turns of the nozzle.

Does it look like I have too much air? There are very fine bubbles and them the larger ones above that.

Also, the water is exiting the hole with the silicone tubing again? Do you know why is started again?

Thanks,
Ken

Just dropped mine in the sump! I also ran into the issue where the volute kept popping off (I was not happy) but after reading this thread, I went back and really really pushed it in. That seems to have done the trick.

I'm also glad that I read this, because I only did the 2 turns instead of the 4 - 5. Still breaking in but looking impressive so far. This replaced my BK Mini 180 as it was way too big for my tank.

I just received my skimmer and nice job on packaging! It is tough to get the grey nozzle in and seems like it wants to pop off until you get it to go in just a little further and seat. It will be a few months before mine is wet as I am waiting on some other parts, so I will be checking back to figure the perfect level. Great job BubbleKing and thank you Premium for keeping this awesome skimmer in the good old USA! If you are on the fence pull the trigger, super nice skimmer!

This will be an excellent thread. Any people getting this skimmer can read through this and find a lot of useful information.

I just looked at my skimmer. Noe the bubbles are fine at the top and the water stopped exiting the hold with the tubing. I made no adjustments.

Klaus, would you know why this the change in the two pictures? I did fed about 90 minutes ago if that matters. Actually the feeding didn't make the skimmer lose the head.
Ken

So if you close the nozzle the larger bubbles get lower I closed mine all the way but remember I'm in 7 3/4" of water a little high. I'm gonna leave it as is for 24hrs to see what happens it's skimming a little too wet open two turns out.

The more the skimmer breaks in and slimes up the less you'll see the larger bubbles, and they'll mostly disappear altogether. Assuming you do not make any changes to the air nozzle, you'll most likely have to close the wedge pipe a little bit and raise the water level a bit higher in the skimmer as you progress over the next week or two.

Jeremy,
Any ideas as to why water sometime exits the hole with the tubing in the wedge pipe and sometimes not? This happens without making any adjustments.
Ken

Push down on that tube really hard so that it's entering the wedge pipe at an upward 70* angle or so, this will seal it up.

Can you explain this better? I'm not sure what you mean.

Note that the tube is pushed down hard already. Also not sure how this would account for sometimes water flows through it and other times not.

Thanks,
Ken

I have a question for Klaus now I have large bubble at at the base of the collection cup should I open up the nozzle a few more turns to make the bubbles smaller higher up?

Hi Ken,...

Big Bubbles have not necessarily what do do with high-or low Airdraw. It have more do do with chemical and biological Parameters in your water. I dont no the right Word of this, maybe itssurface tension ?

After feeding and glued Coralfragments with Epoxy you can see, the Bubblesizes are significant different....

Hope it helps.... Klaus

So what are we looking for the nozzle to do when screwing in or out Klaus?

I ask so we know what to look for when adjusting it LOL.

I mean I know it lets more are in or out but what are we looking for to know it is right for our individual tanks?

Oh BTW Nice job to the BK line up I'm extremely happy Thanks!!

I need a 50W Mini Speedy return now I'm n love with the silence of this pump.

A 100g tank with a heavier bioload will perform better with more air draw, while that same tank with a lower bioload will perform better with less air draw. You have to find the best balance of of air draw for your specific set up. If you play around with the adjustments over time you will find what works best for your particular setup and it's bioload.

@ReefKeeper...

Thanks for your friendly Words ...

So what are we looking for the nozzle to do when screwing in or out Klaus?

You can adjust the Pump and Skimmer to your Bioload. You adjust the Airintake *and* the waterflow. More Air = more waterflow. I developed the nozzle, Needlewheel and Pumpvolute specifically for the Double Cone 150. The Balance of all DC-150 Components, Airintake, nozzles, Necksize and so on, are perfectly. The Customer can found in a short Time, the best Adjustment for her Tank. The Red Dragon Pump dont have Restart-Problems and you`ll want never have a Problem with broken Shafts ... :) The nozzle are not only for *Show* he´s are very sensitiv to change the Performance of the Skimmer. How much Airintake is good for your Tank, i cant say it.

The 50 Watt RD3 Speedys are in USA.. Please ask Jeremy ... :-) Yes, the Speedys are very silent Pumps ... SineWave commutated electronic Motorblocks are much quiter, als Square-Waves.... the Inside Components are all made in pure Titanium and not Plastic. The bearings are not fixed in Rubber. And he use a good Software. Thats one of the Reasons, why the Pumps are so quit.

best regards... Klaus

Thanks Klaus. Correct terminology.
This makes sense as I noticed the change after feeding last night. The interesting thing is that the skimmer didn't lose the foam head after feeding as my BK-160 (and other skimmers) do/does.

Thats make the Wine-Glas Shape Body .. Our newest Development. Cone Skimmers are out of Fashion, the Double-Curves are the next Step ...

best regards....

Indication : ... Anti-Phosphat Absorber are *Killers* of Skimmerperformance. If your Skimmer dont skim, reduce this Foam-Killers... lot of Peoples have Problems with nice skimming, if he use Anti-Phophats....

Hey Klaus,

Is there any chance that the nozzles can have some type of marking on them in the future? It's really difficult to determine what is a full turn with how I have to contort my arm into my sump. I believe the SM's have a dot on the nozzle, something like this would be really helpful. Seems like a little detail would go a long way. Even a number system or dots that go from small to large would go a long way towards truly being able to fine tune the air measurements.

I screwed mine in all the way and put a dot with a Sharpie at where 12:00 would be. Now I can count how many turns.

If you want, you can send me the nozzle and I'll mark it and send it back for a discounted rate of $10.00 since you will be my first customer. :D
Ken

Ha completely understandable. But at the same time for the price of a BK, little details like this are what set them apart from others. Having a series of dots with increasing size would be a really nice addition and allow us to fine tune it even better. But a sharpie might be what I end up doing...

I agree a dot would have been a good idea as well as more detailed information in the instructions. We got more instructions on the usefulness of the nozzle from this forum than with the included paperwork.
