7" - 8" will be the "sweet spot" for it, however you cuold go as low as 5" - 6", or as deep as 12" if really needed. The performance will slightly change that deep though.

Our first shipment should be here in about 2.5 weeks.

Jeremy,

If you could compare the BK cone with Deltec 701, do you think the BK is far away better than Deltec or they could have similar performance ?

I´m really in doubt in what skimmer I should Buy

Best Regards

I have used a couple different Deltecs for the past 4 years.

I dont think comparing the 701 to the alpha 250 is fair. Not fair to the 701 anyway...

The cone skimmers (all RE skimmers for that matter) are a better design, add the bubble plate, more air from the Alpha 250. The eheim is going to be louder then the RD. The 701 cost more. Deltecs tend to be a little turbulent. The only advantage it offers is being external and thats only if you need an external skimmer. Otherwise its a moot point. Not to mention the obviously better construction materials of the RE skimmer... But the ABS and cheaper deltec acrylic never really botherd me.

Honestly, considering the price of Deltecs, seemingly lack of customer support lately and in the past, design improvements from competitors... I dont know how long they can manage to stick around in the US as a "high end" skimmer company.

Might be different in brazil, I dont know.

The things here in Brazil is sad

Just to you have an idea, here we just have octopus skimmers in the LFS to buy, and a lot of crap brazilian skimmers

It´s very difficult to be a serius reefer here

That´s why I buy a lot of things in premium aquatics

Best regards

To get close to the performance of this skimmer you are going to have to go with a Deltec AP702. Even with that skimmer I think you are still going to be a little shy of the performance of the cone, just due to the better design. Plus you figure this cone is $850 less than the Deltec.

I agree with the above statement that Treg made about Deltec staying here in the US as a high end skimmer manufacturer. 4-5yrs ago they were tops in the US, but design improvements and technology have surpassed their product, and they have yet to do anything.

Jeremy,

I am not good with math, my wife claims that is how our first child came into being, but it would seem you added a week and a half to the original eta.

Is that intentional, or should we expect a lot of little Jeremys?

We are still on the same time frame, I apologize. Im hoping to see them arrive here in the states around the 16th - 18th, then we'll have them about 4 - 5 days after that, or as quickly as the trucking company can get them to us.

I am pretty excited about this one. Looks really promising. Thanks for keeping us informed Jeremy.

I just want to have your opinion about Royal-Exclusiv / Vertex Cone 250 sikimmer. I have PM Bullet3 whose rate is 400Gal. Do you think it is worth to buy Royal-Exclusiv / Vertex Cone 250 skimmer?

Jeremy,

Placed a recent order (for a bunch of stuff - not the BK cone) and it is good to be back in touch with a midwest shop. You mention the performance will change (change how I would ask) if you run this skimmer too deep but what performance issues if any should those of us running this skimmer in 5-6" of water anticipate.

Thanks.

A Bullet 3 is an awesome skimmer that pulls out a lot of gunk. I think the biggest advantage that the RE cone would have is that it pulls a heck of a lot less power than whatever pump you are running your Bullet 3 with, and that it's more stable. Typically beckett and downdraft skimmers require a lot of tinkering to keep them dialed in. As far as what each one can pull out as skimmate, it would be a very close race.

The lower the water level you have the pump running in typically the more air it is going to draw, and vice versa when you go deeper with it. However, going deep also can make the water level inside the chamber a little harder to adjust. Once I get the skimmer in I will play with it so that we can get it completely dialed in where the best level is to run it.

Is there any chance I'd fit one of these in a 55 gallon sump?

I don't think it will go to be honest. Having said that, it's a possibility it could be set at an angle in the sump to make it work. Once I get them in I will take a look and let you know.

Jeremy, thanks.

Do you know if they will all come in the squared off configuration where the pump is offset from the outlet? There was a rumor that some might have the pump in-line.

I'm either going to have to get creative to squeeze it in or I'll be running it in my fuge.

Right now I believe all of the units are going to come with the pump on the adjacent side to the outlet pipe. I think that is what you are asking?

So there are no options for pump placement like the Supermarins? Klaus sort of indicated he might add extra ports to allow this.
