Salifert syringe markings

Anyone else have problems with the ink wearing off near the 0.0 mark before exhausting the test kit solutions? I guess I need to figure out a better way to hold the syringe? The marks have just about worn off. :(

KNow where to get the same type of syringe for a replacement?

Used it for years and never have lost a marking. I must hold my syringe oddly. I tend to do the draw and operation one-handed.

I didn't start having the issue until a few years ago, was fine for years before that.

I know it's a silly little issue, but honestly the fact that it hasn't been corrected is making me consider a different brand. First of all, these are expensive kits and I shouldn't have to rig up a janky solution to make them work. Secondly, to me it just points to a general use of cheap materials and poor quality control, and makes me question the other components in the kit as well.

I don't have any issue whatsoever with any of their syringes - new or old - I really don't understand how you would rub them off short of using sandpaper.

Here's an idea - don't hold them on the printed part of the syringe barrel!

I used to have the same problem, now i try to hold the syringe without touching the markings. If they still get erased, I immediately go over them with a ultra fine point sharpie before it disappears.

Clear Scotch Tape is your friend.
Had this problem with Red Sea....Contacted them about and they sent me new ones! Very good customer service!

I haven't had that problem. It is a bit discouraging. The clear tape idea is good, but I agree that it'd be better if it wasn't needed.

Sort of related, but not really. I recently did testing at my lab on the accuracy of the syringes, and repeatability. For those interested, I took (3) measurements at 5ml and got the following results: 4.9285ml, 4.95215ml, and 4.92997ml. So 1-1.5% error and repeatability was +-0.5%. I was excited to see how close they were. Seems my readings could be 1% off, which isn't really bad. I tried this with 5 different syringes with very similar results.

As for the numbers wearing off, I don't hold that against the test company as they would likely source the syringes out to another company. Plus, I have tons of syringes so replacements are easy to come by for me. Can never have too many syringes around my reefing stuff.

Of course, that's ME reading the syringes. How precise your readings are depends on how particular you are with getting air bubbles out of the syringe, how closely you get the syringe at the same spot on the line, the pressure you squeeze the last drop out, and if the last drop actually falls or not. Sorry for the unrelated rant. I LOVE measurement stuff and got excited seeing a thread about syringes.

Ha I started thread and never replied... Yes, I ended up putting a piece of scotch tape over the areas I needed to see. Solved issue! Ever since I added the tape I now have extra syringes that I have not had to use. Thanks for the comments/advice same thing a fellow said at a local pet store.
