SeanT 's 300 gallon Cube-esque project.

Rod covered.

And I pressed some rubble into the cement for a little bit more natural look.

Here is a pic of the finished base.
Ignore the acrylic rods used for feet at this point.
They are just there stabilizing the structure, they will be covered in black silicone.

very nice job. sorry if you already mentioned this, but what kind of rock is that, Marco?

I was hoping to see the Handyman's Secret Weapon used more than just as a prop!

Yeah, I think Bulk Reef Supply is building a pretty good business. I have been meaning to try them out for a while. Their dosing pumps look sweet.

When I re-build my system, I will be doing something similar and actually using rods (fiberglass, acrylic, or carbon fiber) as legs to keep the rock off the bottom by quite a bit. I am contemplating a "zero bottom" tank where you an't actually see the bottom from the viewing pane.

I finished (hopefully) the major columns.
I am going to put them in the dry tank tomorrow to see how they look.

There will definitely be more rock.
This is just step one.

I also plan on a bridge linking those two pictured pillars.

Yeah, I also think the bridge will be a great idea and will compliment the 2 pillars nicely. One of your pillars seen to be very close to the edge of the glass panel??

Might want to move it a little for easy glass cleaning?

As for the rods in the bottom of the pillars, you won't see them hopefully.

Here is what I did this evening with black silicone.

I love it! I think that'll look fantastic once everything is said and done.

Are the rods out the top of that one rock for the future bridge? The black silicone is a very nice touch and will help the rods belnd in...great idea!

Do you have to use a special drill bit to drill the rocks?

One last thing, are these rocks still going to be cooked, or have you already done that?

The rods on top haven't been epoxied in or cut...don't want to do that until I am sure this is the layout I want.

Just masonry bits from Home Depot. $6.

Those rocks were "cooked" from June until Monday...real clean. :)
