Shallow reef tank Club

Great thread. I don't know if this has already been covered, but has anyone attempted a shallow mangrove system? I'm in the process of a build and was wondering if anyone has tried this. This will only be in a nano, but I plan on creating a natural mangrove ecosystem with cardinals and other natural mangrove organisms.

I've made some progress so I figured I would post a picture. The guidelines for this tank were to be silent and look like part of the house. It's just skinned, I haven't started the trim yet.

loving the rock work!

Actually that was what I ended up with after I got fed up trying to aquascape and just through it all in. I had come up with some great rock work that left me no room for corals, this isn't perfect, but I want to finish the canopy and stand before I take another shot at it.

Well, I am in. Here is my 96x30x16.
Going to take it slow and focus on correcting the things that have REALLY annoyed me with my first reef over the last few years. Stand needs skinning, plumbing for return and closed loop is 1/2 done as I have not made the final decision on sump position in the stand.

Thanks to all of you that have posted in this thread with your pics and information, you all inspired me to take the shallow reef plunge.

However, I have added my first 2 frags for size perspective.

Broke1, I really like how you did the lighting.

Thanks. It turned out to be a pain since the wall it hangs on is actually a false wall that all the house pumbing and duct work ran through. I just don't like the look of wires hanging up or down. If I had to do it all over again, I would have run a closed loop up through the bottom and eliminated the PHs too.

Nice as always Tswifty. Any headway on the algae?
Thanks... yeah it's coming along slowly. I'm fairly positive it's just an algae cycle from some new rock I added. So hopefully it will disappear soon.

Thanks. There's actually 13 or 14 in there.

Wow that's a lot of fish for a small tank. I see some GHA? I think? What's you nitrates looking like? Have you been able to control it?

Nah not really. There's more to it than a # of fish. My tank is actually pretty nutrient poor.

I'm very curious about this maybe I'll hit you up on you build thread or PM if you don't mind? I have been battling some nitrate isuues lately.
