Shallow reef tank Club

Thanks guys.

Lighting will be 78 LEDs (FEDY) on 3 Meanwells attached to an ALC via RKL.

It will be attached to a light mover 3.5 that will travel back and forth.

For flow, I'm using a Dart as the return pump, coming up through an OM 4way. The tank underneath is a 40B - I plan to stick the skimmer in there and then maybe a little rock as well.

THIS...

I want to see when it's set up. LED's and a light mover sounds pretty wicked. Good luck with it. I look forward to the day I can afford to put some LED's up over my tank as it's the same dimensions except for height. Looking at like 3k with prices the way they are. :debi::lmao:

And I changed my return pump to a snapper instead of a dart. Glad I did, too. I have the snapper turned down a bit right now. I need to get some more loc line adapters and double the outputs on each return so it isn't quite so much flow through four returns.

Thanks - I bought it used from a store that was going out of business. I'm pretty sure it is from Glass Cages, but can't be certain.

That's awesome Ronnie, have you thought about having islands cover the white pipes? They break the surface of the water.

Thanks Nick.

Right now I'm not too worried about the pipes. I did trim them down a bit, though. They are all at the surface now.

In the future, I'm wanting to do a volcano type tank that I've seen a few people do on here. That should be pretty neat, but will have to wait until we move into a larger house.

How long per day does each section get light with the mover setup? Very interesting

I'm running the light for about 11 hours a day. It moves constantly throughout that time period.

Right now, the whites are ramping to 40% and the blues are ramping to 53%

PAR at those numbers on the bottom of the tank (near the center) is 310, but only for a few seconds as the light passes over.

I'm just keeping an eye on things for now while everything adjusts to LEDs. Over the next few weeks I'll slowly start ramping up a bit more.

With the whites and blues at 100%, the PAR on the bottom of the tank is 550. Probably a bit much for LPS/Zoas. The bottom of the tank is 31" from the light as well.

It will definitely be a process figuring out where to put stuff and how long to run the light. But I'll have fun doing it! :bounce3:

Glasscages? I am setting up the same tank right now. For now I am using a single 250 watt metal halide (lumenbrite pendant w/ Icecap Ballast). I'm on the fence on whether I want to go LED or T5, so I'm going to take my time and use what I have for now..... no sense rushing that big of a decision.

No Leemar thru Lfs

Very cool for sure. I have never visited the Pacific reefs or much of any place that we strive to keep in our tanks but I have always wondered how much sunlight corals really get on average. There are lots of variables for each coral in nature so something simulating passing cloud cover is nice to see. That's one of the things I really like in some of the LED units, the ability to simulate cloud cover (ok ok thunderstorm/lighting is cool too). :inlove:

Posting this here as well, Did not see this thread so I started one already but more fitting in here.

I think I want to start a small frag tank my main goal is to grow out some frags and trade and supplement my main tank.

I currently am getting a Deep Blue Professional Edge 57 and I have to say I love the tank and it is top notch quality. They have a 30 gal RR that I think would be great, what I like about it is the low height that will be great for lighting the corals via hanging pendants.

Anyone have any other tanks I should take a look at before I make the plunge.

This tank will be located in a small room in my basement that I am going to put walls up and run electric and enclose off the rest of the basement. I will be running a calcium reactor and have hanging lights and will be a bare bottom.

Look forward to hearing recommendations.
