Show Us What You Have Collected!

Fish are a challenge, but very easy once you get the technique.

Ive just recently stepped up my ocean activities and I'm interested in the occasional collection... what basic things do I need? Like a net, bucket, bag, etc?
Also, whats the technique if you dont mind, I'm a newbie at that, here... lol

First , a recreational license.
Where do you want to collect at? Knowing your zones is vital to collecting. Some species are restricted in certain area. The FWC has regulations on each county.

Depends on multiple things.. What depth would you like to collect at?

That will decided on what type of gear.. Scuba cert and equipment (deep) which makes collecting much less exhausting.

Or free diving (shallow)

Two collecting nets and buckets with proper aeration to keep the critters alive during transport back to the dock. This is only a couple things. Someone else can feel free to add more things.
P.s.
Most importantly be able to identify every species. Make sure it's within slot limit and if collecting corals use a flexible blade no larger than 2inches in width. And don't ever sell whatever you catch.

Spearfishing?! Can I come down with you sometime and do a collecting/spearfishing day?

Lol sure. I'm selling the boat though. And during this time of year I don't like to get in the water. There is a TON of jellies out there. Not even worth it. It's not enjoyable.
If we do go out I would only ask for gas money or frags! Haha

Btw hmu if anyone is interested in buying the Hydra-Sport!

You also are required to have a battery operated air pump to keep them alive when you get to your car. They check for that also. I take a yellow bait bucket and two clear nets while diving. Then I keep a 5 gallon bait bucket in the car with the air pump for when I get done.
Been stopped and checked by FWC a few times.

Been a while since I collected mahi, but I've got some pics as well;) Hopefully the bite will be better today:D

28.5", but a day too early, lol.....

Ahh man :/ sweet that your dogs go with you lol

Where do you fish for snook by? I've gone back country and only on a few occasions have caught. One of the days I caught, they were all under sized by 1-3 inches....Caught about 10 lol
In the flats I end up catching trout/cuda and snapper.

We don't collect here in landlocked land, but we like to fish too!!

Largemouth, Crappies and big Gills are insane here.

Nice bass!

As far as the snook goes, my parents have a small condo in the Pine Island/Bokeelia area. Truthfully, we don't catch a lot of snook, but we get them now and then fishing for something else. I find snook like to hang out in the deeper cuts and obviously the gulf beaches have their share during summer. We get the occasional one on the outer bars and islands as well. We typically fish for redfish, as snook are too hard to find consistently, and I'm the only one that likes fishing for seatrout, so I usually get veto'd!!
