Silent and Failsafe Overflow System

the siphon can suck much more water than a gravity fed drain, hence the need for more than one additional drain to prevent a flood if the siphon were to become clogged.

Salty:
Yep - covered a dozen times. 2 pipes = the "herbie" method. This method has one more built in safety, and can run higher flow rates AND still have a safety

I just don't get it.....
It is MANDATORY by IBCO (International Building Code) - which is THE standard for all of the U.S.A. that sanitary tees are used in ALL drainage applications for "grey water" or "black water" ( these are sinks, wahers, and tub showers, and toilets respectively) which uses PVC pipe.
ABS is not allowed except in the case of older mobile homes. It does not have the same wall thickness, thus resistance to freeze rupture as SDR (Sewer/ Drain/Run-off) PVC.
It IS the standard in pluming. Home depot sells PVC plumbing.
It *IS* in every city, county, burg, hamlet, and flashing light cross-road.....
HOW can it not be in you Home Depot?

Look at this link for a picture, and imagine it in white, and with shorter cuffs/sockets.

my HD and Lowes around here only sell the black ones as well. I have spent countless hours in the plumbing section and do not see how they could be there without my knowing it. I am planning to use the black ones - I recall a thread regarding the ABS and that it was ultimately fine for our tanks.

Thanks Luv951, I've checked numerous HD and Lowes as well and they all said the same thing that they dont carry it only the ABS. That's why I was asking Bean where he got his...

I should have included that I use the ABS too - because it is black.
I just can't believe that the HD or Lowe's near you do not carry these in PVC. If a plumber has to use them to fix, or install new in order to meet code....Where does he get them? Do you guys have plumbing supply houses near you? You may also find that the plumbing supply house will carry greater size variety in either ABS or PVC.

I think they use the black ABS. I checked a few of the plumbing supply places as well and the smallest size they had it in was 3". Every HD and Lowes out here that I went to said the exact same thing. We don't carry that only ABS. So I didnt say anything when I read your post because I had checked several stores at that time before I even posted here. I just happened to get lucky and find only two of them at my LFS. But I still need one more.

Puzzling.................
I know building code - and I find that well...un-believable.Not that I am saying you are not telling the truth - I just find it so bizarre as - again, building code requires that these are PVC - since the rest of the drainage and vent system are plumbed in PVC.
Did you look at the link I posted earlier? I wonder if they are referred to as something other than sanitary tees in your area?
Well - I get a surprise in life occasionally. As long as it is not in my shorts I am o.k.:D
Just trying to help guys, hope you did not think I was brow-beating anyone. I get frustrated with the help atmany of the H.D. and Lowe's stores. It is amazing how little some of them know.
And - occasionally you find a really knowledgeable person......

Lowes, Home Depot, do not carry white pvc sanitary tees. I am fortunate that an LFS does. They are available online, but do not have the link handy, and am not in the mood to do a search either. The big manufacturer of them is Charlotte Pipe and Foundry. Do a search for what you want, and you will find it. In general it is very hard to find them locally as most find out real quick. Sorry T, although help at HD does suck.

Hi Jim, thanks I knew I wasn't crazy lol. It's been very easy to find them online. Not sure why its so hard to find here in San Diego. I placed an order for some so I hope I get them within the next couple of days.

Maybe that is why I find them everywhere here..............I live 2 hours from Charlotte!!!!

I suppose my universe is not as big as I thought:rollface:

Still... the code thing - I would have thought they wold be as available to everyone as they are in my area....

Go to Aquatic Warehouse off Claremont Mesa Blvd, behind the courthouse. (Complex Dr.) Talk to Pat, he will fix you right up. I know there are a couple of them there at least.

Jim, I went there last week and got the last two 1 1/2" sanitary tees. They only have one 2" left.

ABS is used here for all drain lines as they are not presurrized but gravity fed, it is the standard here in los Angeles.

So they plumb the drainage and vents in homes in ABS Jim?
T

Yep, just cleaned out a main drain to the sewer last week vent stacks were metal up on the roof, but everything else was ABS. Dead rat in the line. I am gettin too old for this **** Ever try to get a 100' snake up on the roof? Well neither have I, I used a water jet.

I suppose it is never freezes where you guys are.....amazing. On the East Coast you will only see ABS on older mobile homes. Otherwise, building code requires PVC.

I am in the middle of building my failsafe overflow...have all the plumbling ready to go except the John Guest connector...which I am ordering from http://www.waterfilterstore.net/pi010822s.asp

My question is how does one drill the top of the endcap to create a threaded hole that this fitting will screw into? or am I looking at the wrong type of John Guest connector and perhaps I need to be looking at one that is a "slip" style (if they even make one)?

my local home depot has these type of fittings that are threaded. you could just drill the hole and put a slip connector on the fitting or what i did is use a tap for the threads after drilling the hole.
