Skimz SK 201 Kone

Here's odd video for you . This is a ES-2800 impeller change out . I did say I heard SKIMZ will make changes they see as needed on the fly . This impeller does use a front support . OOPS you did say that . So u can scratch the possible seating issue .

Unless it is like this one . No front support .
. This is how I found out my impeller was not seated correctly etc . U hear that click popping noise . '

Hopefully all this is old news .

my pump is loud. ill be calling today to see what can be done. The pump is the loudest thing on my tank. it is starting to skim though.

after looking at the specs the difference you guys are seeing is the difference of the "KONE" which comes with the ES2800 and the "MONZTER" which comes with the ES5000....

my guess is the difference is for physical space issues....

The "Kone" used to come with the 5000, they recently changed this.

Mojo,

how load is your pump? i have just got a SM201 and the pump seems louder than i expected, but have nothing to compare it to so it could be just me

well hmm I was going to get the sm 201. as it has the es 5000 pump. is that what yours has... ?

after talking with Jon warner he said that the pumps are really quiet. he did have a worry about the 2800 but they were fixing that. I dont know. I have learned to trust what he thinks of things over the years. So I wouldnt worry too much. I know they do get a little better after a couple days.

So far, from the owners, would you recommend these skimmers? Maybe also comment about your bio-load and tank volume.

Well now all that was said about the impeller being properly seated applies since you are getting the SM 201 . I would check it before it even hit the water .
Just n case .
At least we all get to find out the air draw on the 5000 pump . Glad u chose one with the 5000 pump .

i have the sm201 it has the ES5000 pump on it, will check the impeller on it to see if its seated properly

I also saw a few things that may increase noise .
There is no padding or rubber feeet underneath the skimmer base.
There is a small hollow bottom underneath the skimmer .
Any vibration from the pump will resonate any other pumps in the sump .
EG ; My eheim returm pump hums and vibrates a lil .
I put my skimz in and the noise was noticeable louder .
I cut off my Eheim pump and the noise level dropped .
I usually use insulation under my sump to reduce internal pump noise .
I had to remove it due to needing the height since my stand is shorter than a normal stand .It is home built .
I cut it back on . It was back . I padded the return pump with a mouse pad .
I also stuck a mouse pad under the skimz .
Problem solved. In my experience with the 5000 pump and 201 cone I noticed that if I almost closed the air the pump got loud trying to get to a higher water level in the unit .
My issue was I never put in the new impeller and the other one was not seated correctly .
If the impeller can be removed by hand without using the screw driver it is not seated correctly .
Refer to vid in earlier post .

after having a closer look at mine last night, this seems to be what is causing the noise, not the ES5000 pump itself. will stick a mouse pad under it and should be very quiet then.

on another note ive only had my skimmer (SM201) for a few days but very happy with it so far

Just wanted to thank Aquacave fora quick turn around. I sent back my SK 201 for a SM201. Same footprint just a cylinder vs a full cone. And the SM has the Es 5000 pump. Much happier with this pump over the 2800 as far as noise goes already.

Aquacave did good on cs for me too . Can't wait to see the air draw when you test it . hint , hint ..

lol the new skimmer with the es 5000 is much better in my opinion. IT doesnt pull much more air but is more quiet. I am getting 1250 to 1300 lph of air.

TY Mojo.
So the SM 201 is the sweet spot skimmer @ bang for the buck .
Glad to hear it exceeds the spec's of 960lph . I was pretty sure it was pulling more but had nothing to confirm with .. What water level r u at now ?

mojo where do you have the air adjuster valve set? also what size are the bubbles in your skimmer neck? i find no matter what i do they seem to be bigger than normal, well compared to my deltec anyway
