SMB2415 550g (84x36x42) build

still no spike, added 6 more shrimp. If this doesn't work guess I'll have to try a filet of fish as fish should break down more easily than shrimp.

some basic crappy photos of the tank now the the sand has settled and the water cleared.

Holy &@#*%# is all I can say. I can't wait to see this thing up and and running. I'm tagging along. Sooooo when can I come over and photograph your tank. Lol. Nice job and good luck

I was ill the last two days but still no ammonia. I have not removed the shrimp yet either so theres 10 shrimp still in there. I picked up a bottle of ammonia today and dosed 4 capfuls, waited 4hrs, tested, still 0, so I does another 6 capfuls. So tomorrow if there is no ammonia Im going to test for Nitrites and if they are 0 - I'm going to take that as the tank has cycled or at least capable of supporting the 4 small 2" fish plus the 3" fox face.

@Franky - the basement isn't finished and looks like a war zone but if you're interested in checking it out let me know when. I hope to have my fish round of fish in the tank this week. Although I'm sure I'll barely notice them.

Rechecked amm late last night and it showed .25 so I figured I'd try to boost it to 1 and dosed another 6 capfuls. Checked amm this morning and tonight and it is at .25. Check nitrite and it is deep purple on the Api test so I'll figure it's at least at 1. I removed the filter sock with the minor remnants of the 10 shrimp. I could only see about 4 of the shrimp left.

In total: 10 raw shrimp, 16 capfuls of ammonia and...

So the cycle has started.

Now that I have removed the filter sock we'll see how much of the bacteria I removed... if the amm level rises or goes accordingly and drops to 0 tomorrow.

** for anyone interested, I used Ammonia Clear by family dollar. I purchased at Wallingford Family Dollar on North Colony rd. It does not foam and contains only Ammonia hydroxide. Only downside is that it does not list concentration so dosing is a bit tricky.

He's been enjoying the somewhat quiet tank he's in right now. It s a 40b with some algae, little sand, live rock, scooter blenny, longnose hawkfish, and himself.

He's still skittish but I'm confident once he gets to the 550g with 6" of sand he'll love it.

Started another QT tank tonight: Lemon peel angel, Golden Sleeper Goby, Green Goby, (2) yellow tail damsels, Flame angel (will be put into separate QT).

Nitrites still at 1.0 uuggh.

Ordered another (2) GHL Mitras totaling 3 for the DT. Also received the notice that my reef breeder value series LED will be here on Mon. That will hopefully work for the TBD frag/fuge/quiet tank.

List of Tangs has been finalized (at least for now). When I pull the trigger on these it will be
(2) hippo tangs
(1) achilles tang
(1) Blonde Naso Tang
(1) Chevron Tang
(1) Purple Tang

all will be purchased as small as possible. hopefully around 2" or less.

and as the last fish to the tank it will eventually be a Sohal tang.

Wife is also pushing for a powder blue but "we're discussing"

Still cycling, will check again on Monday.....

A photo of the GHL mitras box. So far Im impressed but will have to wait for the other 2 to show any meaning photos of them on the tank. I purchased them from Allen over at Reefbytes.com... He's been a standup guy and a pleasure to do business with. His advice and assistance with getting these up and running has been a great experience. Only downside to these lights is the lack of integration with Apex. The mitras do communicate with each other and able to run custom lighting profiles right out of the box.

We have a Birthday!!! For the tank that is... 1/15/2014 will be the day.

Nitrite has been 0 for two days. Ammonia has been 0 for about a week. Nitrates are at about 5-10ppm. Water change tomorrow and then the splash.
