So This Is My 150 - lots of pics

great tank,I love all your corals. What size are your koralias? Do you feel you have enough flow? I am in the process of set up 120g. and trying to figure what size powerheads I should get. can't justify spending $400 on vortech

I've spent a long frustrating afternoon plucking yet ANOTHER hair algae outbreak out of my tank... and I'm not done yet.

The only reason i don't get out of the hobby is looking at pictures of tanks like yours.. inspires me to keep at it.

Just a lovely tank. The photography isn't too bad either!

Thanks, I hear ya on the battle with hair algae. I had a very large outbreak last year that covered about 75% of my rock. I also has bad cyano outbreaks at the same time. I actually removed all affected rock and scrubbed it all off, yet less than a month later, it was all back in full force. I ended up doing a few things to remedy it.

1) I set up a siphon hose to a 30 gallon trash can, but the hose went through a filter sock. I attached a toothbrush to the end of the hose and scrubbed/siphoned out until trash can was full, the pumped trash can water back into tank, and repeat.

2) I more than doubled my flow. I used to run just 2 Koralia 4s and my return (mag 18). I added 2 Koralia 5s to the 4s giving me over 6000gph in flow.

3) I changed my light bulbs. I run strictly T5s, and I had heard that once they get near their end of life, they start producing more in a higher kelvin which enables algae. Not sure how much that part is all true, but it seemed to help.

4) I now keep my skimmer pump very clean. About once a month I clean that pump out, remove all slime (inside and out), scrub with toothbrush.

5) Added filter sock to help remove more junk.

Keep at it...

Thanks, I have 2 Koralia 5s on the upper back wall corners (a few inches from the surface) pointing upward toward the front middle (surface agitation). I also have 2 Koralia 4s on the lower side wall corners (in the back) a few inches from the bottom, blowing along the lower part of the back wall. My aquascape has an open back, no rock is within a few inches of the back glass. My return is a mag18. I used to have algae problems last year when I was just running the Koralia 4s, since adding the 5s it is much better for everything in general (fish, coral, algae, etc). I believe the 5s put out around 1600 GPH each, and the 4s around 1250 each (maybe more?), so total is over 6000 GPH with return getting around 900 GPH (guess).

So you ahve a Canon T2i? I recently got one as well. I think that in the following pic, you could have made it a little better by adjusting your metering/exposure. That would normalize the difference in brightness between the bright tank and less well-lit room.

Don't ask me HOW one does that on our camera though. like I said, I recently got mine and am only starting to understand this whole Photo hobby.;)

Thanks for the tip...that is definitely one of my first pics with the new camera. I have a much better understanding of how to use ISO, shutter speed, and aperture combination's to get better lighting.

everyone bashes people for having too many fish or too many tangs, but i love them and from the pictures, those tangs look super small. i dont think it is a big problem. (i had 2 in my 55, and i have over 6 in my 240 and wouldn't be scared to add more)

I have 6 tangs in my 125

Hey how'd you get your acans "happy" like that?

Good question. Not sure, they seem to always have their feelers out looking for food, until the magfloat comes by, then the whole thing retracts. Maybe it's just the location/flow.

I have 6 tangs in my 125

Wow! Hope that works out.

NICE TANK BRO!
what skimmer are you running? (:

Thanks, been running a Octopus Extreme 200 for a while now. I try to clean the pump once a month, which I have found makes a big difference in performance.
