Yeah, it was awesome! Wow, it would be HUGE boost going into WC2010 if they win this Sunday in the Final!

For those of you who missed the game the replay will be on ESPN2 @ 11PM.

Thats a great picture :)

It is apparent though that we are young and play very direct and through the middle of the pitch. We had nothing on the flanks all day. Howard was amazing and showed why he is one the greats.

What do you typically run your alk at Sunny?

Currently it is @ 7.2 DKH.

I used to run it higher, 9-11 DKH, but now with carbon dosing I cut back so that I didnt get any alk burn on the corals.

What test kits are you having the most success with testing NO3 & PO4?

I currently use Salifert kits but am looking into a Hana Photometer. My birthday is coming up in about a week so maybe the wife will surprise me with one. ;)

Oh wow, I'm going to be 28!! Man, time sure does fly by.......

Did you ever experience any tip recesssion becuase of the carbon dosing?

Sunny,
have you notice any base TN with low alk?.. i got some base TN if i run alk lower then 78-8.0.
Also, looking to drop carbon dosing and just use GFO with Prodibio Biodigest.

mark,
Do you still dose prodibio?

mike

Did you ever experience any tip recession because of the carbon dosing?

Thankfully no, but a friend of mine did vodka for for a bit and burnt some tips because of a higher ALK. He was only a week into dosing when the burnt tips occurred.

I ran 9 ALK a couple months ago while on Vodka with no repercussions but I would not recommend anyone else do so. The sweet spot is between 7-8 ALK, 9 is pretty much the limit.

Hmmm.... Thanks for the feebdback. I have always ran mine at 9.5-10 even through the vodka and prodibio (yes mike, I still partially run it). I have be thinking of dropping down the alk a tad, but I have not really wanted to turn the dial on the aquarium plants regulator. Sometimes the simplest things seem like a chore.

What was the biggest visual difference between the bioptim and the mb7? I know that you have mentioned a couple of times that you liked the control of dosing daily. Thanks

It would be possible if they didn't have to face the five stars dream team on finals. :D

Yeah, know what you mean. Its the small stuff that always causes me the most issues. :p

The biggest difference I seen with the daily dosing was increased polyp extension, more skimmer waste, and overall cleaner tank. I dont think that there is really much difference in terms of bacteria quality when comparing different brands but I do feel that daily dosing is a better method.

The one plus with the Prodibio is that you have no fear of contamination because they are single use vials. With MB7 you have to be careful to not get anything into the bottle which could spoil it.

The Zeobak is also a great alternative if you are looking to switch up bacterias.

Well yeah, Brazil is playing unbelievably well right now. But, it would be exciting to see USA put up a good match.

No matter, I will be cheering from both sides! :D

No TN here. :D

Just watch your level carefully if you are running GFO and bacteria. A tank that is too clean can cause problems.

Sunny ,
do you think I mght get into some problems with this combo?

Mark,
what do you use from prodibio system?

I currently run my ALK right at 9. Do you think I should let it fall into the 8 range before starting to dose Vodka?

You should be fine, just make sure you feed your fish well and watch for lightning of corals.

You need to find a good balace as the GFO and bacteria will be competing with each other for waste. You may also want to look into AA's once the tank cleans up.

9 is the upper limit on ALK when Vodka dosing so I would drop it down to around 8 and then if you would like you can raise it up slowly. I have been running between 7-8 with good growth and no issues thus far.

Sorry Sunny for the hijack ;)

I use refbooster, biodigest and bioptim. I also turn on my UV once a month so that is why I mentioned "sort of".

I run my alk between 9.0-9.5dkh and I dose 5ml of vodka daily on my 150g(actual water volume) setup. I also run a po4rx with carbon and a seperate po4rx with GFO. I just started dosing AA on monday and dose 5 drops daily. July 1 will be time to change out my GFO and I beleive I'm going to cut the amount in half. I change my carbon every 2 weeks. I need to get me some MB7 and try it out I guess....I tried Vitamin C for a couple of months and my zoas loved it, but my sps didn't. As soon as I stopped dosing VitC my polyp extension was back and growth accelerated also. I'm getting 2- MP40W's next week for my setup and I think that will really help with growth.

Ok I have had a little hiccup, I dosed for 100g on last thursday night. like a capful of mb7. THat was it. and then on monday night I got my amminos. I dosed 4 drops. The next day my blenny passed away. tested all the water
Amonnia 0
trates and trites 0
ph 8.14
calc 440
alk 8

Ok well i didnt think much of it. I did a water change as usual.
The next day my anthias gone. and then this morning my Rose gill fairy wrasse and my chromis.

I am not sure what gives. My system pretty much runs itself. The only new thing is the MB7 and the total of 6 drops of amminos. Not sure what the deal is. Had a little algae on glass. Kinda wierd. Didnt know if you had heard of this. I did another small water change tonight.
Just kinda weird.
Mojo~

Any crabs or coral bandit shrimp??? All the fish that died are small and could have fallen prey to either of those. If not, I would have to suspect an overdose of bacteria that lowered the O2 level drastically or once the first fish died, the ammonia spike killed the others.

yea I got them out right away. I do have a coral banded shrimp but have never had an issue. I ll give it some time.
