SPS pics from my tank

Thanks for the kind words guys! Some details on the system...

Total system volume is roughly 270 gallons. There is a 30b frag tank, 45 anemone tank and a 100 gallon stock tank tied into the 156 display.

2 x 250w Radiums driven by Lumatek and coralvue electronic ballasts on the "HQI" setting and housed in Lumen Bright 3's. Photoperiod is just shy of 8 hours.

SWC 300a skimmer, no mechanical filtration other than that

2 x mp40s

Temp is kept between 78 and 83 and heaters have been kept on timers to encourage some fluctuation from day to night. In the winter I usually switch to allowing the Reef Keeper to control the temps.

A Geo 618 calcium reactor replenishes calcium and alkalinity. I may need a bigger one soon... I'm happy as long as calcium is between 400 and 500. Alkalinity is generally maintaind between 7 and 8 dKH, though it jumps a little higher after water changes. I don't bother monitoring PH anymore and no longer have a probe hooked up to my Reefkeeper.

No dosing other than magnesium once or twice a year. The tanks are fed primarily flake food once a day in very large amounts.

GFO most of the time, though I will let the PO4 rise a bit at times since I feel there are some negatives/unknowns to constant GFO use. GAC for 2-3 days every month or two.

Some I missed in the first round...

Reef Raft Redbull finally starting to branch out

Reef Raft Sabertooth

Upscales Microclados

No clue what this one is...

Ditto

CC Oblivious with Red Oxide at the top and Greg Hiller's Aqua delight and SC Orange Passion on the left. This is the half of the tank I revamped a few months back due to a pest paly takeover.

My chubby tang

My new little girl peeking out from behind the red planet

Full tanks shots aren't turning out very well with this camera...

Random frag tank shots, lit by T5's...

Hawkins

I may need to reclaim my frag rack soon :p

And make some space elsewhere...

I spared a few protopalys that took over so much of my display... Tierra Del Fuego. No room in the display really. Plus I'm convinced it's just A. Hyacinthus like red planet and Rommel's Watermelon.

I really like that your keeping it simple. Do you dose anything or feed your Sps ? I am true my happy for you as you have accomplished what I would like to do. Again outstanding system.

TOTM for sure

I don't dose anything unnecessary, just magnesium if it gets low. SPS are fed every once in a great while with frozen rotifers and the smallest golden pearls.

Thanks again for the kind words!

Omg

I love where this tank is going and in for the ride on this one. Do you have build thread which details your lighting etc?

Thanks
Tom

You can an amazing tank and in Milwaukee too! (my hometown). Can I ask where you got the SSC from and how long you have had it/how fast has it grown? I ask because I have not seen many that have grown into large colonies from the small frags that people sell.

I've had it for almost exactly a year. I got it from another reefer in the NE.

Awesome does not describe your corals. Congrats on your success. Would you mind sharing a little more with us about your lighting? I know you said Radium 250w but I would, like to know:

What reflector do you use?
Bulb height from top of water?
How many hours do you run your radiums?

Thanks for any information and keep up the good work

3 x Lumen Bright III minis over a 5' tank. I have a pretty wide glass brace in the center that cuts par levels in the middle of the tank.

The reflectors are about 16" from the water surface

From 4:00-11:30 on the two ends, 5:00-12:00 on the middle.

I'm sure I could boost growth with a longer photoperiod or 400w MH's, but I don't want to mess with things too much.

Some new shots...

Efflo that I don't think I've posted yet

It's growing so fast... My Watanabe little girl

This might be my favorite SPS in the tank, slow grower though :(

Red Dragon

Red Bull really starting to take off...

Bubblegum

Ultimate's Rainbow still slowly but surely getting better

Closeup of an unknown...

Azure Stag is looking good and the bluest stag I've ever seen by far.

PC rainbow still growing nicely

Hawkin's

There's SPS in there...

Thats a sweet collection! How often do you feed the harlequin? I had a pair that destroyed a large asternia population in a few months. I would give them small red stars two a month but it wasnt enough and they disappeared

What an awesome aquarium! The colors you're getting are beautiful. I am inspired by the grown you achieved with your SSC. I got a frag of it that was browned out and took a month or so to color back up. It has now encrusted onto the rock and is starting to send up small branches. If I can grow a colony like that in a year, I'll be thrilled! Congrats on the success you've achieved!

Thanks!

I just got another one after giving my last one away about a year ago. This one will be moved to my anemone tank once there are no more visible asterina. After that he's off to find a new home with Asterinas.
