what will you need powerheads for? And besides, the wave tank is designed for NO tank penetrations right?

I asked Klaus about whether this pump is "pressure-rated" and got kind of a gobbledygook answer, but here is something to ponder:

FIrst and foremost, that's damn good flow/watt IMO so what about an over-the-top sump loop?

Pump in sump, mounted in a place that provides the shortest distance and number of corners. Piping going over the top and down in the best place that it can be hidden either in a non-viewable corner or behind rock work. It goes all the way to the bottom and branches manifold style to say 4 x 3/4" - 1" outputs with eductors. These blow across the bottom of the tank from the side opposite the overflow keeping detritus in suspension and heading to the overflow. Puuting the rock structure on 1" - 2" acrylic or carbon fiber pegs so that the return/loop flow is unobstructed.

This will give you less flow through the sump but more flow in the display.

Do you think i should try the CL? I really want to because i don't want to have the 2 powerhead hanging at the far end

It's really not that hard. I've had one on all but two of my tanks. My current one that I have blocked off right now and the one on the 450 were fairly strait forward, but effective.

I really would probably ran a dart and a 4-way on my current tank, but the battery back up for the vortec was very appealing. Plus the ability to switch the flow pattern fairly easily was a key factor.

Jon, thank you so much for the advice. I try not to have pipe running along the top but i am scare drilling holes in the bottom as well. I already have 4 tunze 6305 for in tank circulation which will be plenty along with the 4 6201 for the wavebox.

I really like the CL idea because it help hiding all the plumbing and no wire in the tank but if it leaks, i am pretty much SOL :D. The ATB or Red Dragon pump are not design for pressure. The 4200 will be use as return to the main display as well as the 2 prop tank.

I heard many good feed back about the OM 4 ways...

Well, Klaus walked th etightrope and said it would work fine with the Eductors. For my next tank I have been contemplating an over-the-top return using 2 x pressure-rated Sequence on VFDs with one going to each side of the tank.

Of course this is an in-wall so the pipes would be hidden from site in the front corners. I think it would be very good at keeping th ebottom clean, especially if I can ramp them up and down at different intervals.

Don't have a size yet. Still not even scratched the surface with regards to design, or more importantly, materials used in the design.

If I build it in the same space my current on is in, It would probably be 10' x 6' x 70". That's about the max I can do in my current tank room.

Why do you say that Line-x is superior to powdercoating for stands and light racks? Just curious?? I understand that it's probably more durable, but I doubt you'll be whacking your light rack with a sledge hammer, so is it really necessary? I do like the idea of people lining the inside of their cabinets with Line-x to protect against spills, but I don't understand the thinking behind coating light racks and steel stands with it.

I'm glad I found this thread when it's only 6 pages long ... if I had searched for it a week from now it would probably have already split!

for me the aluminum reflectors, rails, and even my light movers are not faring well with the salt air. Next time I will coat everything. The thing about powder coating is that even though it is much better than a regular paint job, it still wears and can get chipped.

I just discovered that the legs on my utility sink have rotted so bad that one is missing about 4" at the bottom...completely gone, and that was powder coated from the factory.

Line-x...

I'll let Steve correct me if I'm wrong but, I think part of going with Line-x is not just durability but it also helps deaden sound and vibration from your equipment. At least that's what I remember him telling me?

There may be other benefits too but I'll let let Steve fill you in.

Dave

I had our paint shop paint my stand w/ a industrial paint that was supposed to be bullet proof and it is rustin not eve 1yr. later.

Steve, I see you are going w/ tropic eden. Is this for the RDSB or the display? Do you think it will stay put better than the carib sea special reef grade? Just asking becouse I need to decide what to use for my display. Enough of the BB....no depth.

Got the Tunze going, I'll start a thread soon.

Later,

Chad

Mike, i don't think Line-X is necessary when there is already powder coating. I just did it for safety purpose... Talking about safety purpose i just got ROB in my very own garage with gun point after we got back from dinner with my sister. I'm pretty sure it a fake gun but my wife and baby was in the back seat so that ahole took my wallet, wife purse etc... If i was in the garage alone, i would challenge the guy but darn wife and kid safety is more important... Now i feel embarrass because a Sergeant in the Marine got robbed by some dude using plastic gun ..... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

I found couple deep scratches on my stand that is why i decided Line-X...

Mainly is for durability. I want to completely seal the wood that attach to the stand. I will do the same on skinning from the inside... Line X also a good sound damper just like dinoMax :D... But tank will be in the garage so no big deal...

Are you upgrading Chad, cuz the tank you are running now is almost a year old  are you putting up for TOTM? I am going to use the Tropic Eden Reef flakes in my display. According to this Dr. Dude he said it is very good so i listen to him... Cost me $250 for shipping alone while the sand cost $160

Dude, sorry to hear about your uninvited guest, your a smart man and put your familiy first. But, I can sure feel your frustration on not being able to teach the punk some manners. Great build you have going on ill be fallowing along on this one.

That is crazzy. Just glad everyone is ok...I just got a home alarm myself. Someone was in my back yard a couple days. My dog almost broke my back glass door. I wanted to chase them but had to wake up my wife and worried about leaving them.

Steve,

You're a bigger man for what you didn't do.

As far as the Tropic Eden goes, that's whats in my tank and it's freaking awesome! You made a wise choice.

With the economy nowadays it will happen more and more. I really hope that scumbag will get arrested soon. We are working hard for our money and some lazy people like him goes around and robbing us.

Clint, that is what i heard from Mike about the tropic eden. I am going to get the larger grain to prevent it from flying around :D. I also use the tropic eden Ca media....
