Stock list for new build

Grab a pair of Mandarins, in a tank that big you'd never have to worry about them, and you could see them mating which is just awesome.

Just two tangs? :thumbdown

Oh well, I guess it is your tank. Seems like a LOT of room - I can't imagine the tangs would have much to fight about in a tank that size.

Most wouldn't fight in a tank that large, as long as they're different shapes. But even in a tank that size, I don't know if you would see the true behavior of Tangs. I was checking out this tank over the weekend, http://www.abt.com/about/fish/fishtank_info. Compared to my 210, the Tangs acted completely differently. No nervousness. Swimming speed for the most part would be very, very slow. Completely ignoring other fish. A bunch of Tangs reaching 1+ feet in length.

Thats next level stuff, I don't want fish to be stressed in the tank. That's why I'm looking for feedback from fellow reefers. The tank will be as open as possible. Just received 50L of the Sera Siprorax for the 625g so I can use less rock in the DT.

That's not happening, the group of tangs that is. Can't have a 30$ yellow or 120$ purple messing with a black. Also I doubt I will find two small false personifers like I want so that will probably only be one and the scribbled pair is still up in the air since they get large

I think that's a good decision on the tangs.

I don't think you can feed an OSFF in that tank unless you just want to let it eat acros. I would be careful with the anthias and tusk/x-hatch, I've heard of both fish eating fish shaped like anthias.

+1

Is cp chloroquine phosphate? If so how do you know it was bad and killed your fish?

Got it from eBay and after treatment the fish still had ich when I took it out of the tank. Word to the wise don't get CP unless it's from NLS. Treated again with ich shield powder and everything developed s infection and died within 3 days of one another. I have used ich shield several times with great success.

The Orange spot file was something that I would put in a tank by itself either attached to the 625g or just its own system. Anthias are not a deal breaker, plus I don't think I want to spend close to a grand on Anthias, if it's a butterfly or angel that's a different story. The crosshatch is another up in the air fish since if I can't find one at 4-5" which is when they show sex I won't be getting one. I want all of these fish in the small size so they can grow in the tank is the idea. Trying to get the list ironed out so I can properly buy the fish and stock the tank as far as aggression goes. If I QT everything for 30 days it will take me a year or more to QT all the fish, so the fish that have been in the tank the longest can't cause a aggression issue (long term anyway) with the last few batches out of QT

I'm guessing that you will end up putting in more docile fish after some more aggressive ones have marked their territory. (Due to random deaths and such)

To that end, I'd just settle on the list and stock order as best you can and adjust to any aggression problems as they occur. You'll be doing your best effort to prevent it, but you'll probably end up having to deal with it anyway.

I'd also start early on the pyramids (and other difficult fish), since it may take you multiple tries to get enough to stick. I've been trying to get 3 pyramids to survive in my tank, and it's been almost a year now.

The pyramids and idol were going to be first followed by the Bellus and Tinkeri, Declivis, Mitratus butterflies. Then things get a little tricky with the rest of the Angels, figure I stock by highest priced first. I am hesitant on the clarion and may go the Conspicuous route with the bandit and false personifer(s). I know that this can't be choreographed to the tee but I'm trying

Okay, a few thoughts, before you read this:

1) It's a slow day at work
2) It's fun to live vicariously through people stocking big tanks
3) A lot of these fish I have never seen or heard of, so it was fun to see what they are
4) If the old law practice picks up one day, and I suddenly have some real money, I would LOVE a tank like this one day - this allowed me to get a feel for how much stocking it would cost.
5) I assumed you would want the nicer of options (i.e. Red Sea Regals, Aussie Tusks, etc.)
6) These were Live Aquaria prices - I have no doubt you could find these cheaper somewhere else. So I realize this isn't totally accurate. Fun none the less....

False personifer (2) $600
Scribbled (2) $560
Bandit $1,000
Crosshatch male $1,200
Goldflake $450
Bellus (3) $477
Declivis $379
Tinkeri $579
Burgess $129
Pyramid (6) ? $300
Black tang $800
Blonde naso ? $90
Orange spot filefish * $45
Moorish idol * ? $80
Blue line angel $349
Emperor $90
Saddled butterfly $35
Regals (2) * ? $760
Harlequin tusk $229
Royal gramma $20
Achilles $200
Resplendent anthias $240
Clarion $4,000
TOTAL $12,612

So there you go. Take out the Clarion, and it's only $8,000 - probably what a Dream Reef Diving trip would cost. I must say I chuckled when I saw the Royal G in comparison with the rest of the heavy hitters.

But that's still a lot of money. No one said this hobby makes sense from an economic standpoint. I spent $20 today on a frag so small you can hardly see it.

Dmorty, what do you do for a living?

Just curious. Why are you thinking conspic over the clarion? Color preference? Aggression? Price?

They are both my holy grail type fish. Clarions are actually cheaper then Conspics typically. I have no first hand experience with either but I have been told by people who know much more about Angels than I do that they can be aggressive

Building automation controls is my job. I'm by no means a baller but am patient and save for things I want. I also make as many fish connections as possible and try to get the best prices I can without quality of livestock suffering. I have one 125g with 40g sump cycling with all the sera media in it. When that cycles fish come out of the 220g and that gets moved for the other QT. I will have plenty of seeded media to start the 220g up in 24 hrs.

Wait a sec ....

What happened to the group of convicts? Thought that would be really cool. Chicken!
