Tank of the Month - April '03

OMG all i can say is that i dont know why you guys didn't pick my tank for TOTM. I could show this guy up anyday with my 12 gallon. I use NSW (Natural Sewage Water) but i make sure i run it through my sock first to filter out all the dog crap floating around in it. Also, i think that all the dissolved nutrients in the water help my corals and fish-- well used to help my corals and fish until they stopped moving one day. I dont know why you guys say i can't keep a panther grouper in my 12 gallon, he's the same size when i got him! actually he's a lot skinnier it's almost like he's just bones.

Ham,

Is that turf builder with or without Halts?

SilverShark,

With the current prices they charge for fish here, "over the pond"; most of us can't afford livestock. Algae tanks , like Ham's, help cover up the fact to the unintiated.

Truly, truly a deserving tank. I can only hope that one day my tank will look as good as this.

Keep up the good work HamBone, you are an inspiration. This is my favorite TotM yet!

:smokin:

AWESOME... one question though... will the skilter work on a fresh water tank??

i just dumped scotts turf builder (TM) into it and, well... lets say my angles now look like devils...

GREAT TANK!!!

Finally  ,

A TOTM not dominated by large healthy SPS corals. Not even dominated by any healthy corals. Lets hear it for the below average reefer !!!

Thank you one & all, once again. Too kind, you really are. To the one that asked about the fertilizer: I've tried both with & without Haltz(sp?) and have seen no real difference between the two as far as the overall health of the tank. The fish did seem to have a bit of a crosseyed look with the Haltz added, but that could have just been a coincidence. Or, maybe it was the Kingsford Charcoal briquettes I'd added for additional filtration? I dunno, but the fish don't have crossed eyes anymore...although, it's harder to see their eyes at all, they've developed this trick of swimming upside down lately that I just don't get. Perhaps they're doing it for April Fools' day? Guess we'll see tomorrow if the joke's over.
SilverShark, I don't really understand your negative comments to be quite honest. As you've seen from the rest of the remarks here, my tank has turned out to be quite pretty if you ask me.
Oh, and as for using used socks as a pre-filter for your saltwater, I'd really recommend against it. While it does remove quite a few impurities, you really don't want to see what happens when you accidentally introduce a case of athelete's foot into the tank:eek2: Trust me, you've never seen fish flash & itch until you've given them athelete's foot:D
On another note, I've been considering another fish for the tank and would like to ask you all for your opinions.
Option one - a pair of naso tangs. I love their color, and I think I'd be better off getting a pair of them rather than one so that they can at least occupy themselves with each other since they won't have much room to swim
Option two - a white tipped shark. I know, I know...they get a little violent. BUT, I think if I treat it well, give it a little therapy and feed it well, I can convince him to leave the other fish alone.
Option three - a moorish idol. These are just cool fish, aren't they?
Option four - open to suggestions here, bring em on!

Thanks again for all your kind words, I can't tell you how much they mean after all my hard work.

LOL...i love your tank...could i scrape some of that algae off to "jump start" my culture?

oh..and i've always admired the internet's lack of expressing sarcasm. Its great for confusing people.

Hambone, I don't believe I've ever heard of mandarins schooling together. But if you were to introduce a nice dozen or so in your 20g, I would have to imagine that at least one pair would go the same direction sometimes. :D And one day, you'll see all 12 of them doing the exact same thing.

That is when you've got this hobby nailed! ;)
