Teebone's Epic 210G SPS Build

Took the gate valve apart and identified a small o-ring inside that could have been the issue?

Definitely could be it. Having a spare just in case probably isn't the worst idea in the world.

Exciting times! Good to hear you are progressing, looking forward to the coming stages that involve salt :)

To keep dragging things along… I have been playing around more with my aquascape.

I started with this…

I wanted to improve my latest structure to minimize shading and allow optimal flow and increase space for more coral placement. I am hoping to create something more in line with this design….

… and with a full load of sps

so here is my attempt for now…

I ended up drilling holes and using acrylic rods to keep things together. About 2/3 of the structure remains open underneath. It measures close to 40 inches end to end and about 20 inches at its widest part.

Nice!!! I always liked that aquascape you posted as inspiration and I think you've created a structure that is a nice facsimile. Do you think you'll add more?

I don't know if I should add anymore to this structure?

It has already been suggested by someone we both know that it has similarities to an Imperial Starship Destroyer :D

I can easily keep adding pieces, but I want to ensure that there is space all around it for water movement. I still have lots of rock to play with, but sometimes less is more and I might already be there. A couple small islands will probably be the most I will add.

I love it, its going to be very easy to place your corals. You could also raise some up higher than others on their own little bases to get a different look. Or to keep tabling pieces underneath other pieces that would potentially touch. Awesome job looking forward to the tank being done.

Thanks, that is exactly what i am intending on doing. Raising and lower pieces will no doubt simplify things and improve the overall aesthetics of the layout.

I have also been busy drilling many holes all over my rock so repositioning my sps pieces will be easier. I found in my last tank it became difficult to reposition frags once they started growing if the plugs were expoxied on the rock. This will help with growth if some pieces require different lighting, flow, etc. I have some extra 3/8" acrylic rod left over that I will use to mount all new frags that get added into the system.

Well, I decided to make some minor changes and will be leaving things as is.

So here is my scape, for now..

I'm going to do my best to resist the urge and keep things minimalistic and simple. We shall see..

I like the latest scape. Remember the final scape isn't the rockwork; it is the corals. How and where you place certain corals will greatly affect the overall look. Eg a stag type sps on the right side boulder, to give height etc etc.

I like the area underneath the plates; very good for placing low light corals there.

Looking great. I am getting ready to redo my 320 and like the self rock Idea. I need to get over-there and check it out in person!

Not to hijack Tee's thread but that's fantastic news... I thought I read that you were moving and planned on getting rid of the 320 in favor of something smaller?

Any ETA on the filling of the tank Tyler?

Here you go Jordan :) ... 75 GPD, its been filling slowly but surely since Sunday afternoon! I'm guessing it should be full in another day or so.
(Please excuse the mess on the glass, drilling my rock was a dirty job)

sweep scape! Looks like it definitely has a lot of potential

Thanks, much appreciated :)

Glad you like it too. I got inspiration from your new scape! I have been following along and learning from one of the best! I agree with what you are saying, coral placement will be critical to the final look. I also like how you drilled your rock for easily coral placement, a little extra work will go a long way.

Pumped to hear you are keeping your 320. :bounce1::bounce1:
Anytime you find yourself in the area, let me know and I will show you my progress. Hopefully I have more to show you whenever you come by. Thanks for the kind words.

+1, very excited to see the rebuild!

quick update"¦ found some "inside time" due to the cold weather..:D

Caught a few fish and added them to the tank, no problems as ammonia levels remain undetected. Continuing to add Seachem Stability to continue the establishment of nitrifying bacteria and feeding regularly. Focused on some wire management and fastened controllers and modules into a dedicated panel. Here is a pic of my progress to date, I'm happy with it so far, but still have a few final touches before complete"¦

Also, wired up my ATI fixture and built something temporary until I figure out what Im going to do for a canopy. Here is a current full tank shot as things stand today. (Notice the water level due to my wave box ;)).

Ive been in contact with Great Lakes Aquarium and will be getting a sump made, so I should have it soon. Just have to figure out my baffles, etc.

Thats it for now:)

Man o man, what a nice build!!
Can't wait to see this baby grow some serious acro bush!! (Got that saying from sahin but I plan to use it as often as I can)
