You can see some surface agitation here with the one prop...

The challenge here is how to attach a 2" PVC pipe onto the MJ body easily.

I was thinking...

Do we HAVE to cut notches out of the PVC to get it to stay on the MJ body???

Why not just clip the little "tabs" off the MJ body and accutally GLUE THE PVC to the body itself... ???

this would save time and work...

Im not saything this for 2inch PVC... but just for the 1.5inch PVC for regular mods...

???

Why cant we just do this?

OH and dhnguyen

Im still not understanding the exacts on the stopper... please elaborate..

how large do you make it? how long?

etc...

I could really use some help with that

OH, and 1.5inch BLK ABS PVC is ok to use for the duel Nitro mod (1.25inch) for a MJ1200 isnt it??

I remember something about.. melting? ??
Care to elaborate on this as well please?

also... yes, I plan on just glueing the PVC straight to the MJ Body instead of having to to through the troble of cutting it there...

is this a CRAZY unheard of idea... or it is alright?

I did more testing. I took photos also. Please keep in mind that this mod I did looks terrible. Its just a prototype for testing. I wont cover every detail of what I did. This is a very crude mockup. I would like to get ideas on how to refine this into a nice looking finished product. Thanks!

Im using a 1.5" prop on a maxi jet 1200. I did try a dual 1.5" prop, but the maxi couldnt spin it in the water.

This prop gave me MAD flow when run without a guard. I have been struggling on getting a guard on it without cutting down the flow that much. So I went to the local hardware store and seen some 1.5" to 2" adapters. I already tried 1.5" pvc with the slot cut into it to fasten the guard to the pump. So with this adapter, I could just slip in over the existing 1.5" pvc that already fastens really nice to the pump.

So, I built up a prototype with the adapter and cut slots in it for the intake. I got poor performace. So, I cut out the slots which made the intake, 2 big holes. Still got poor performace. So I figured I would chop up the guard even more and took the dremel to it. I ground out the angled part of the adapter on the interior to give the prop more room behind it to pull in water.

That did the trick! I instantly got great flow. Still not as good as a naked prop, but I would say its running at 85-90% of that. I also did a flow test. I had those handy 2.5 gallon ziplock bags. I put one around the output of the pump and timed how long it took to fill the bag. It took an average of 4 seconds to fill the 2.5 gallon bag. I did that half a dozen times and got the same result every time. That puts the pump pushing 2250 gallons per hour. Nice! Who would have thought that a maxi Jet could push over 2000 GPH? I curious to what a 1.75" prop would do. I wish I had one.

So what I have found out so far that to get the most out of the prop, you need ample room between the end of the prop blades and the housing as well as enough area directly behind the prop in order for it to efficiently pull water.

So please give me your ideas and opinions on how to imrove what I have prototyped as well as how to make this idea into a mod that is pleasing to the eye. I do need to plug up those gaping holes for the intakes as well as do something about the white. The guard does look a little big as well. Maybe there is a better pvc fitting to use as the gaurd other than this adapter. Please dont be shy about your opinions. Thanks!

Here are a few shots of the prototype assembled.

Thanks. I think a 1.75 inch prop would work in the same adapter. I wonder if that would push 2700 GPH + ?

You may have hacked up that piece of PVC, but your fingernails are so neat and trim. The contrast was funny to my eye.

And oh yes, nice idea. What did you use to trim the PVC?

you couldnt get a 1200 to turn 2 1.5" props? I thought people were turning 2 1.75" props with MJ900s?

and that opening... fish could get sucked into it no?

Ummm... thanks? Ha. I first used a fine tooth saw blade on a miter saw to make nice slots, then I had to hack it up with a dremel to make the intakes bigger for experimenting purposes. Something quick and easy....

The dual 1.5" prop would spin out of the water, but would not spin in water. Im using this prop.

The intakes are that big because I was experimenting with gradually making them bigger till I got the flow I wanted. For the final version, I would do something a lot more safe and pretty.

What's funny is that I did the EXACT same design in my early days of experimenting with these mods  Glad to know I wasn't the only one crazy enough to tried that

Here's an idea I had. Take that basic design of yours (albeit with cleaner cuts) and cover up the gaping holes on the side those plastic rain gutter mesh. Tons of openings for water to go in but the mesh is thin enough to not impede the water intake.

No reason why you couldn't just glue the PVC pipe directly onto the MJ body. MY reasoning for making the groove to attach to it is so that it's no permanent and I won't really destroy the MJ so to speak. Also not gluing it on permanently will make replacing parts and cleaning/maintaining the whole thing A LOT easier.

Yes you can use ABS pipe. But like I said before ABS melts very easily so you will need to take your time to cut it.

The stopper is nothing more than just a 1/2" long piece of acrylic attached to the bottom of the crossbrace.
